17 Three Against One

POV Ophelia I really didn’t want to say I enjoyed talking with them, but…it was really fun. By the time lunch was almost over, Jackson was snuggled against my legs and Mason was resting in the beanbag chair next to me with our shoulders touching. “So, that’s how you do it!” Jackson shouted with glee. I rolled my eyes. “Of course. If you focus on all the dates, it becomes too difficult. You have to broaden your scope.” I added. He huffed and his short brown hair was ruffled through his fingertips. “Man, I’m still going to need help on this project, but I appreciate you taking time out of studying to explain it to me.” Her smile brightened and she nodded. “It’s nothing. Helping you helped me study for my quiz next week. That and um…it was a very interesting conversation.” “Better you than me.” Mason added. I heard my voice giggling through the link and sighed. “I’m sure it’s not that bad. He seems like a great student.” “Ha! Yeah I am! If my little princess says I am than no one will say otherwise.” Jackson shouted in agreement. “Shh!” The librarian hissed and I ducked down as a sign to apologize. “Hey, it was our fault and that librarian is pushy. Don’t worry about it.” Jackson hissed through his teeth. “She’s allowed to tell us when we are being too loud, Alpha Jackson. We are supposed to be quiet in here. Maybe we should…um…just talk through m-mind link. I understand if you don’t want to, but um….” “That’s a great idea, baby and…drop the titles. We are equals, remember?” Lucas called through the link and the three of us shot up to look at him. “Sorry. I just got here. I thought it was better to get Jackson myself, so he doesn’t miss chemistry.” Jackson moved closer to me, and I sucked in a breath. “Nope, I’m good right here, thank you.” “You can try it, but I’m sure the librarian looks ready to kick you out regardless.” Lucas pushed. “Come on slacker.” Jackson leaned back, resting his hand on his chest. “I have never.” He added. I rolled my eyes and collected my things before wiggling out of his comfortable grasp. “We all need to head out. I’m not going to get banned from the one place I think is comfortable.” I added and that got him moving almost immediately. “I’ll walk you to your next class.” Came three voices all at once and I could feel my ears wringing. I immediately winced and they all moved closer to me to see what was wrong. “Sorry, too many voices at once.” I huffed and they nodded, relaxing just a bit. “So? Are you alright with our company for just a few minutes longer?” Jackson asked. I could see eyes trailing towards us as the other students started moving through the halls. “I don’t think that is such a good idea. I…I lost myself back there. Um…bye.” I rambled before jogging away from the three men towering over me and heading straight to my next class. Not one of them tried to stop me. Was I hoping they would? Maybe, but I was the one who pushed them away so I shouldn’t have expected anything from them. That wouldn’t be right. “I hope you enjoy your class baby girl. It was fun studying with you. Do you…can you study with me tomorrow too?” Jackson asked. I froze in front of the doorway, not expecting Jackson’s words to flood through my mind. “I…I really want to spend more time with you. We can meet up at the pack house! I’ll have snacks. Please?” He pushed again. I shook my head and walked into class, slinking into a desk closer to the whiteboard. “I…I guess that’s okay. As long as you don’t distract me. Tomorrow, I have to get started on my paper.” “Yes! I will be there. I promise. Thank you. I miss you already.” I bit my lip and focused on the teacher as he called the class to order. I didn’t respond to his attempt at flirting with me and I instead let the turmoil in my mind continue to fight me for a response. How much longer can I string these guys along? It’s imperative that I come up with a solution. I can’t hide from them forever and I don’t want to. Just as Jeremy said, they do seem to really enjoy my company. And…and Jackson did come to my rescue earlier. What else do I need to at least give them a chance? “I can feel your worry, sweetheart. I know this is still a lot for you, but just so you know, I’ve never seen Jackson so happy before. It might take you a while to get used to all four of us, but thank you for giving us a chance. Even when I royally messed up the first time we met. I hope your class is as boring as ours is.” Lucas called, and the shock had my pencil fall on the floor. I wasn’t quite ready for him to join in on the conversation. “I…okay. I’ll give you all a chance. I don’t know where this is going to go, but hiding from my feelings isn’t going to do anything but worry everyone else. Including my wolf. I don’t think I can see her in that kind of pain ever again.” I called out to the four of them. “Thank you! I’m so happy to hear that!” Jackson shouted. “You really are one of a kind my little gem.” Mason added. “I’m really happy to hear that princess.” Lucas said with a relieved chuckle. I smiled at their responses and focused on class once more. Little did I know the next words that floated in my head would be much more painful than anything I could have dreamed of. “I will find you and reject you as soon as I have the chance little maid. Remember that.” Brenden growled and I gasped before shutting off the link and standing to my feet. “Miss.Hawthorne? Is everything alright?” The teacher asked. I shook my head and pointed to my stomach. It was the truth. After hearing Brenden’s words, I felt like I was about to see my pizza for the second time. Nothing in the world could have prepared me for this. “Alright, you can head to the nurse’s office. Please come by as soon as you can to get the assignment for tonight’s homework.” I nodded quickly, grabbed my things and raced out of the room. “How can three of them care for me so much but one seems to hate me more than Joshua did?” I cried as my wolf tried to reason with me. “He will come around.” “Oh, like Joshua did?!” I screamed back. Again, angry at her when it wasn’t her fault. “Then what do you suggest we do? I’ve never heard of a multiple pairing surviving if even one of the mates in the group rejects another.” “Then I guess we will have to reject them all.” “Ophelia!” I spun around just in time to be engulfed by three men that made my body sing with electrical energy. “Please don’t listen to him. I will never reject you princess.” Lucas called. “We…we want to be with you. Not just because you are our mate, but because you didn’t try to be with us because of our title. You agreed to be with us because you want to get to know us as people. Separate people.” Mason added. “I love you, Ophelia!” Jackson added and I was stunned. I pulled away gently and smiled at the three of them. “I can’t just let you ignore your brother’s wishes. If…if he doesn’t want me, then there is nothing else we can do.” “We can talk to our parents. See if there is another way around this. We will fix this, sweetheart.” Mason cooed as his hand grazed against my hair. “No need. I, Brenden Silver, future alpha of the Silver Dawn Pack, reject you, Ophelia Hawthorne, omega of the Silver Dawn Pack as my mate and true soul forever and always.” Brenden called from behind us. I didn’t have time to respond before my eyes faded into darkness.
