{Maisie’s POV} [This chapter contains themes of assault, and violence, along with details of a surgery. Reader Discretion is Advised.] I walked into the surgery theater, and what I saw nearly stopped my heart. There was blood everywhere, and Silas’ body was so broken and bruised that I nearly didn’t recognize him. I leaned into the glass, watching closely at every little thing they did. They had his stomach cut open down the center, trying to find where the bleeding was coming from. His legs were already set and put in casts, along with his arm, meanwhile the doctors were rummaging through his abdominal cavity. “I can’t find where the bleed is coming from!” One of the doctors shouted, obviously getting frustrated. I tried to see things more clearly but I couldn’t get any closer without actually being in the room, which the hospital wouldn’t allow. I sighed, trying to think back to every injury I’ve repaired, anything that could help. I remembered an issue a half a year ago, one in which the bleed was being caused by a laceration in the liver, but finding it was problematic due to the sheer amount of blood, and the location of the laceration. It was cut underneath the liver, on the back where we could hardly get a good view. I tapped on the glass, waiting for anyone to notice me. “Do you have something to say?” The Doctor asked, looking my direction. I nodded, looking around and finding a stack of papers that students use to take notes. I quickly wrote down to check the visceral surface of the liver. Staring down at the doctors and nurses waiting for them to respond. The doctor nodded up to me, “We’ve checked everywhere, but we’ll double check just to be sure, he’s bleeding so much it’s hard to see!” He shouted, turning back to what he was doing, asking for more suction to clear the blood. After a few minutes of moving around the liver I heard him gasp. “There, there’s a cut here!” He said, I watched as he repaired it quickly, and they waited to see if the internal bleeding had stopped. He looked up at me, giving me a nod. “We got it!” He said, turning back to his work and closing Silas up. I turned, making my way out of the surgery theater and back towards the waiting room. I saw Margo rubbing Angelo’s back, while Marco, Mikey, and their father Enzo were all pacing the floor. I ran into the room, making my way to Angelo’s side, all eyes were on me as they waited for me to say something. “They were able to get the bleeding under control, they’re closing him up now, he should be out of surgery soon.” I said, looking around at all of them before smiling softly down at Angelo. He grabbed my hand, pulling me closer to him, into a hug. I hugged him back, running my fingers through his hair. “Thank you Maisie..” he whispered. “I didn’t really do anything, but I’m glad that I was at least able to bring you some peace.” I said, kissing the top of his head. “I think you should know, when he came in.. he couldn’t walk, or feel his legs. I don’t know how the rest of his injuries are.. no one will know until he wakes up. There is the risk that he may have swelling on his spinal cord.. which could cause him to be paralyzed.” I sighed, brushing through his hair with my fingers. “That is something that will be treatable.. but you need to know, there is a possibility that your brother will not be able to walk for a while, and a slight chance that his legs may never regain feeling..” “You’re saying that they’ve shot, stabbed, nearly killed three of my brothers, and now, my bambino may never walk again?” He asked, looking up at me, anger evident on his face. “Angelo, breathe..” I said softly. “I’m telling you this that way you can be prepared for whatever the doctors tell us. There is also a possibility that they were able to repair any damage to his spine during surgery. He could walk just fine when he wakes up, but we won’t know until he comes out of surgery, and wakes up enough to tell us how he feels.” I placed my hand on his shoulder, and kept his eyes focused on mine. “Do not, and I repeat, DO NOT get so angry that you rush off and do something reckless! Your family has been through enough, you all need some time to regroup, and think things through on how you want to proceed.” I said sternly. “She’s right Angel.. we all need to have a group discussion after Silas wakes up. Maybe it’s time to involve some of the other families, they’re obviously trying to pick us off when we’re alone. We’re better off sticking close to one another for the time being.” Margo said, placing her hand on his other shoulder. I gave her a soft smile, and turned my attention back to Enzo, Mikey, and Marco. “And how are you doing?” I asked Mikey, walking to him. “How’s your shoulder healing?” “It feels much better!” He grinned, rubbing the back of his head. “Thanks doc, for everything!” Marco gave me a look, I knew that he wasn’t happy with me knowing everything. He sighed before holding out his hand to me. I reached out, and he shook my hand. “Thank you..” he said. “Thanks doc you for taking care of my brothers, and for getting Angelo here.” I smiled softly up at him. “No problem Marco.” I said softly. “By the way? Where is Max?” “He’s here too, he already got stitches, and everything, they’re just wanting to keep him for longer to make sure that he’s okay.” Mikey said, before turning to look at Angelo. “We have a lot to discuss before this is over.” Angelo stood up, walking over to me, he leaned down, wrapping his arms around my waist and resting his chin on my head. “And we will, just not here, and not now. For now, we all just need to focus on Max, and Silas.” He said, kissing the top of my head softly.
