{Maisie’s POV}
“Sure you don’t, maybe you should go ask for his number, he seemed really sweet, I’m sure he’d give it to you!” She wiggled her eyebrows at me and I rolled my eyes.
“I’m sure he’s taken! A man like that, there’s no way he’d stay single for long!” I replied, lifting another nacho to my lips. I ate it, not able to stop thinking about him. I could feel his hard abdomen when I wiped him down, embarrassment flooded me. I just wiped down a gorgeous man after spilling my drink all over him, what is wrong with me? “I think I need another drink..” I said, walking to the bar and ordering a whiskey neat. Once he slid it over to me I smiled, turning back towards our table. “Do you want anything?” I asked, looking at Heather. She shook her head and I turned grabbing my drink and heading back to my table with her. When I arrived the waitress was setting down her food. We ordered a Wood-fired pizza, with olives, mushrooms, and banana peppers, my favorite. I smiled as I grabbed a slice and took a bite.
I couldn’t help the slight mo** that came from me when the taste hit my mouth. This was by far the best pizza I’d ever had. I smiled over at Heather, who, I could tell by the look on her face, was having the same thought as I was.
“This is the best pizza!” She sighed out, smiling brightly.
I nodded in agreement taking another bite. “It’s incredible, the Smokey flavor, combined with the spice and vinegar of the banana peppers, not to mention the earthiness of mushrooms, it’s incredible!”
“I’m telling you Mais, you should have been a chef! He**, you probably were one in a past life!” She smirked. “And don’t even get me started on your baking! Those cupcakes you made last week, the strawberry shortcake ones with cheesecake frosting! They were incredible!” Her eyes lit up.
I smiled across the table at her. “So, I’m guessing you want me to make them tonight?” I giggled.
“Could you?” She asked, doing a little dance in her chair.
I couldn’t help but laugh. “Of course I can, they’re my favorite too!”
She danced in her chair, spinning all the way around before taking another bite of pizza. “You’re the best!”
I rolled my eyes. “You literally took me in after my life fell apart Heather, if anyone here is the best, it’s you!” I smiled.
“Awe, sweet, and humble, not to mention absolutely gorgeous! You my friend, are going to make some man very happy!” She cheered.
I took another bite of pizza trying hard not to bring down the mood. The thought of me in another relationship had me cringing internally. Knowing how my only relationship ended, I knew that I didn’t want to jump into anything anytime soon, maybe, not at all. Then I was reminded of those eyes, the deep brown color, that had gold flecks swirling in them. I was too drunk for this.. four shots of vodka, and an Old fashion had my mind wandering to places it shouldn’t.
I felt my face heat up, knowing that I was blushing I quickly covered my face. “You’re thinking about him aren’t you?” She smirked over at me.
I shook my head, taking another bite. “Who?” I asked, trying to act as though I’m unbothered.
“That guy from the bar! I have to admit, he was tall, dark, and handsome! Not only that, but the way he looked at you, it was dreamy!” She smirked, taking a bite. “His eyes were locked on you, he even watched as we walked away to the table. I think you caught his eye as much as he caught yours!”
“There’s no way that someone like him would even give me a second glance Heather. He’s one of those business types, did you see his shirt, it looked expensive. He’s probably one of those guys that’s into models, tall, skinny, blonde, like you!” I said, taking a drink of my Old Fashion.
“What, you think I have a chance?” She winked.
I rolled my eyes. “You have a chance with every man you meet Heather, you’re beautiful!”
“You think I’m beautiful?” She wiggled her eyebrows giggling.
I couldn’t help but laugh too, her laughter had always been contagious. She was the life of the party all throughout school, and when she left, it felt as though the party was over for me. Now, the party is back on, and I couldn’t be happier. Being away from my brutal past, and with my best friend from childhood. Having a good time for once, letting loose, dancing, drinking, this has been heaven sent for me.
Once we finished the pizza, I couldn’t help but look to Heather. She was wasted, and I wasn’t much better. “We need to go home, before we do something stupid!” I laughed. “Call us a cab, and let’s make sure that your car is locked up tight. We’ll come back and get it in the morning!”
“Look at you, being all grown up and safe about it!” She laughed, pulling out her phone.
“I’ve seen enough car accidents because of drunk drivers to know that it’s a bad idea.” I said, standing up and stretching. “I’m going to go pay!” I said, walking up to the bar, she stayed behind calling our cab. I made it to the bar and smiled at the bartender. “Hey, I’d like to pay our tab, and for our food.”
“Oh, it’s already paid for, Mr. LaRoux paid for it when he was here.” He said, looking confused.
“Mr. LaRoux?” I asked, confused.
He nodded, “The man you accidentally spilled your drink on, he paid for it before he left.”
I stood there, my mouth hanging open. After I just told him not to, he paid for it anyways? Anger swelled in my chest, why can’t men just listen? I nodded, “Okay, thank you.” I said, turning and walking back to the table, looping my arm with hers. “That guy paid for our stuff, even after I told him not to!” I scoffed.
She giggled as we made our way outside. “I told you he likes you!”
