{Maisie’s POV} Suddenly a scoff from the doorway brought me out of my thoughts. I looked up, seeing Marco standing there with his arms crossed. “You really have weaseled your way into their hearts, haven’t you!” I paused, looking up, then back down at the papers I was working on. Completely ignoring the fact that he was trying to get a rise out of me. “What, now you’re just going to ignore me? Seriously? How childish can you be?” I continued with my paperwork, setting down the page that I finished, and picking up another. “Marco, I’ve been told that if you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all. Is this advice that you also need to hear?” I asked, shooting him a glance. “Who gives you the right to talk to me like that?” He asked, anger flaring across his face. “I did!” I said, shooting him an icy glare. “Listen Marco, I get it, you don’t like me, everyone gets it! Yet, for some reason, you can’t go a single day without reminding me, and everyone else that you hate me! I’m busy, I’m trying to help your brothers, because even though you think such horrible things about me, I care! I want to help them get better!” I replied, turning my attention back to the piles of papers on the table. “What is all of this mess?” He asked, that gruff frustration still in his voice. “Some of it is your brother’s medical records, while some of these papers are the research that I’ve been doing the past few days, and this..” I said, picking up a folder. “This is the regiments that I’ve devised would be best for Mikey, Max, and Silas.” I set back down the folder. “I’m thinking that it wouldn’t hurt to also add in some weight lifting towards the end of Mikey and Max’s regiments though.. to help them build back their strength..” I muttered, more to myself. “I’ll also need to bring over my TENS unit.. along with the heating pads.. ice packs..” I kept muttering. He walked over, picking up the folder that I had mostly finished, and began reading its contents. “You.. you put all of this together?” He asked, peering down at me. I nodded. “I went over your brother’s medical records, noting every injury they’ve ever had, and taking notes on it, making sure to highlight any that are more recent. I figured the more they work on their most recent injuries, and some of their other more recent ones, then their bodies should go back to normal, maybe even feel better than they have in a while. Old injuries.. they can still cause a lot of pain if you don’t build back up your strength, or work through them.” I sighed, pinching the bridge of my nose once again. “I just hope this is enough to help them.. especially Silas..” “You honestly expect me to believe that you’re doing all of this out of the kindness of your heart? I know that my father offered you money to be here! You’re nothing but a gold digger, and now you’re a gold digger that knows about my family! My brother is an i***t to trust some country bumpkin like you with anything!” He sneered, throwing the folder down, causing the papers to fly out, scattering across the ground. I looked up to him, my eyes brimming with tears, before I wiped them away. “You know what Marco, you wanna play this game, fine! Here!” I said, pulling out my phone and pulling up my bank records. I threw it at him, watching him read over it. “I make more than enough money, I’m a fu***** Doctor! Not only that, but I put myself through medical school, which took me working three jobs just to be able to do! I also rejected any payments from your father, as you can see! I don’t want your families money! I’m in love with your brother you i***t! I love him, and I adore your brother’s, and your sister, and even your niece and nephew!” I signed, carefully getting up without waking the twins, and getting in the floor to pick up all of the papers. “I know that you hate me Marco, but could you at least not make your brother’s recovery harder than it has to be.” I picked up all the papers, and the folder, placing them back inside. “Why then? Why did my brother trust you enough to tell you anything?” He sneered, throwing my phone on the ground. “Because I trusted him enough to tell him that I killed my ex husband Marco!” I shouted, tears spilling from my eyes. “Y-You what?” Mikey’s voice sounded from the doorway behind me. Him and Max were standing there watching me, unmoving, holding their breaths. “I killed my ex husband..” I cried.. pushing past Marco and rushing into the kitchen, away from the twins. I turned, noticing that Max, Mikey, and Marco had followed me. I sighed, rubbing my temples, as I felt tears begin to prick in my eyes. “Robert was an awful man.. the things he did.. it took me years to recover from his abuse.. and honestly, I don’t think I fully have. He made me feel so small, so weak.. so useless and worthless. I got my medical degree, and he kept me home like a pet! I was forced to do everything for him.. even if I didn’t want to..” I whimpered. “I couldn’t say no to him, even if I did.. he’d just beat me, and take it anyways.. He took everything from me.. he killed my baby.. so yes, I fu***** killed that bastard, and I’m glad I did! If I didn’t, I’d either still be his little prized pet, or worse, and he would have done this to some other poor girl! I did what I had to, and I would do it again!” I said, turning away from them. “Maisie.. when you said.. he’d take it anyways.. you don’t mean..” Marco asked, his eyes scanning me. I nodded, unable to even look them in the eyes. I turned, grabbing a bottle of whiskey, and a glass, pouring me some and downing it. “I escaped.. I got out.. that’s all that matters right? I’m fine now.. I’m completely fine..” I whimpered, pouring and drinking down another glass. I felt a hand on my shoulder, and turned to see Mikey, he pulled me close, engulfing me in a comforting hug. “You’re not fine Maisie.. you’re still reliving that trauma..” he said, brushing my hair down softly. “It’s okay though, you’re safe here.. we’re going to keep you safe.” Max walked up beside me, and pulled me and Mikey into a warm hug. “We’ve got you Maise, it’s okay now, if you need to, you can fall apart.. we’ll hold you together.” he said softly.
