Unveiling History of the Island

After supper, Gooky commanded the other men to drag the four intruders into one of the huts which was the biggest. It became the hut of detention Since everyone, including the visitors were satisfied, there were no complaints. Jarod and his group were wondering what was going to be done to them. In the hut, Gooky asked, “Gentlemen, what brought to Kewilon island to interrupt our peace?” At that very instant, none of the four people seemed ready to give the answer. Gooky looked at them for about three minutes waiting for the response. At last Peter, who was in fear, replied, “We are fellers. We came here searching for a forest from where to cut down trees so as to meet the demand for charcoal, firewood and poles in the city.” “That explains why I saw some smoke from the forest. Here, we only have one forest. Once anyone enters that forest, we all realize it immediately since we are the guardians of the forest and every single tree. We are sure no tree in that forest can be cut down. Wait, how did you leave that forest alive?” asked Gooky. Peter explained to him all that happened up to where they invaded these people’s residence. It is only the part of Kyle that he did not mention. Gooky just giggled and all the rest laughed at them. “That forest is haunted. How could just appear from nowhere and expect to put it down? Do you know how many people have died trying to cut just a tree from that forest?, said Gooky. “Many years ago, this island had very many people. It was just as it is in the city. People in every corner of this city wanted firewood, charcoal and poles. That is how they started cutting down trees seriously here. My grandfather kept on advising the fellers to stop what they were doing but they were only looking at money and wealth. Guess what happened? After just two years, there was not even a single tree on the island. All of a sudden, things that had never been seen before started happening. It stopped raining in the area. All crops that had been planted died, so they were hit by a famine. As if that was not enough, there was strong wind that blew away whatever was in its way including houses, crops, animals and children. Lions, tigers, monkeys, snakes, birds, hyenas and elephants started roaming around the area as if they were police officers doing a patrol. This is because they had no where to be. Therefore, they started taking their revenge against all humans who had destroyed their homes. Even landslides were there. Land from the seven hills was all washed down and it covered very many people and their property. Soil erosion as well. I am telling you an infinite number of people died. For the few that survived the disasters, they fled away from the island promptly. It was only my grandfather and his family that remained on the island. They were always hiding in a certain cave and on the watch so that none of them would succumb to any of the calamities. They even had guns and other weapons for defense. Just know, it was not easy at all. By that time, they were only depending on fish which they caught from the lake. Slowly and quietly, they kept on surviving. Fortunately, my grandfather had previously moved around the whole village and collected seeds from all trees including those on top of the hills. In his free time, mainly at night, he stealthily moved around and planted all the seeds. That is how all the trees and the forest you see today came into existence,” said Gooky.
