If Trees Could Talk!

One Word to a Wise Man...

Billy said, “Jolly, write these words.

Job, we do not know what happened to you these days. You no longer visit us as frequently as you used to. We all hope you are fine. We have written this letter to tell you about what is happening since it seems that you are not aware and also sound a warning about what will happen if it does not stop immediately. Our brothers and sisters are being killed by some people that you allowed to dwell on this island. This is something your grandfather and father never allowed to happen. You are proving to be incapable. We are starting to think you are one of them. All you humans are cut from the same piece of cloth. I do not want to go into details of how important we are to you humans. Just know we are soon stopping. If any other tree is cut down, we will leave this place and do our revenge on all humanity. There is a need for us to also live in peace and harmony. Better stop them because you are our only hope. Otherwise, you will not be spared either. We will go out and hunt for each of them, then come after you.

After writing the letter, give it to one of the birds and it will deliver it to Job and his family.”

Early the next morning, Job was sitting in his courtyard with his entire family and Kyle. It was an urgent meeting that was being held. The meeting was held because Job noticed a lot of smoke ascending from the other side of the island. The smoke was definitely not from cooking.

This arose a feeling in Job’s heart that something unusual was happening on the island. Therefore, the meeting was just to warn everyone to be on their guard. Kyle had no choice but to participate since he still needed to be helped to leave the island.

Job inquired from Kyle, “Do you have an idea what may be happening from that side? That must be where Gooky and his group are.”

This is because Job was ignorant. He had grown up in a generation where there was no felling on the island. He only knew people out there would cut down trees for poles, firewood, timber and charcoal but he never knew how the process was. That is why he was very shocked.

Kyle then labored to explain to him and told him he thought it was charcoal being burnt since he knew that was where Gooky was because Job had talked about him several times. He then suggested that they would go and check to find out the truth.

Job had never really visited Gooky’s side many times. This would be one of the few times for him to reach Gooky’s side.

As they were setting off, he then saw a bird flying towards him that was carrying a big leaf. It came very close and sat at his shoulder then he picked the leaf from it. The leaf had the letter from the trees.

After reading through this letter, he fell on his knees and started crying. Kyle asked him for reason as to why he was crying and Job handed over the letter to him.

Kyle saw the words on the leaf and there was a very big resemblance to what the trees told him when he was in the forest. The exact words he had told Job after he survived the haunted forest.

“I thought everything was now fine. I did not expect Gooky to start cutting down trees so soon and neither did I expect the trees to take it too serious. My father used to take me to the trees when I was young and that is how they got to know me.

I remember Billy, the first tree that grew there in that forest together with Rose. The rest of the trees there originated from them. Now they want to turn their back on me. They say I no longer visit them anymore yet I last visited them four months ago, with my son, Gibbs,” complained Job.

Job was really sad and heartbroken to the extent that he did not have the strength to walk. With time, Job gathered the strength and courage since he knew it was all on him. He was supposed to do something about it immediately.

Nevertheless, he was very grateful that the trees gave him a warning. This warning helped him to clear his doubts about what had gone amiss on the island. He knew exactly where to put his focus. He had an opportunity of utilizing Kyle as his right-hand man because the trees had told him the same thing too.

“My brother, do not worry. Let us join forces and save humanity. I still remember every single word those trees said to me. Therefore, I am willing to help if at all you can trust me,” said Kyle.

Job and Kyle agreed to work together. Their first plan was to go and talk to Gooky and his group. Kyle returned the letter to Job who then put it in his pocket after which they set off.
