Lisa Du Pont was overjoyed as she held onto the medical report that she had just collected from the hospital. She smiled radiantly like the morning sun in Spring. Although Lisa occasionally felt uneasy about her marriage with Rod Franklin throughout this year, she believed that this special “gift” would complete their marriage. She gripped the doorknob and before she could call out to Rod, she already heard Rod’s voice coming from within the study. His voice was so gentle and tender. She had never heard him speak to her in that manner, not even when they were in bed intimately. Rod had never coaxed Lisa. “Nico, be good, you must listen to Aunt Britney and take good care of your body, otherwise I will be worried sick.” “Lisa? Don’t worry, my love. She dared not attempt to take a larger suitcase and make excuses that she was going on a long trip, otherwise, Rod would be suspicious. Rod frowned as he saw the small suitcase and backpack that Lisa had placed at her feet. There was another small cardboard box next to a servant. “Where are you going?” he asked. Lisa looked up in surprise and said, “Where am I going? Shopping of course!” “Why do you need a suitcase for shopping? What about the cardboard box?” Rod appeared upset. “This cardboard box? It’s for my aunt in Jones City. Yesterday, while I was at the hospital, I called her and she said that she missed the coconut pies from the Old Bander. So, I went there yesterday and bought a bunch for her. As for the luggage...” Lisa looked at Rod coyly and said, “When you were on a business trip, Lindsay came over to keep me company. That absent-minded girl left without taking her suitcase. Today she asked me to shop with her, so I’ll bring along the suitcase for her.” Upon hearing Lisa’s answer, Rod looked at what she had prepared and shook his head disapprovingly. “Lisa, don’t go out these days. Wait for Dr. Horace to come and give you an examination. Thereafter you may go wherever you want but let Lucy accompany you.” Lisa pouted and said, “But... Lindsay and I have already made an appointment.” Rod stood up and said firmly, “I believe she won’t mind going another day.” He waved his hand dismissively and left. Lisa bit her lips and sat down with her back covered in a cold sweat. After looking at the things she had packed, she took a deep breath and asked the butler to send the suitcase to her best friend, Lindsay. She checked along the corridor to make sure no one was nearby to eavesdrop on her and then called Lindsay. “Lindsay... help! Rod... wants to kill me! He wants to take my kidneys and transplant them to Nico!” Lisa said softly as she knelt on the ground with tears streaming down her cheeks. “I was supposed to leave this morning... but... but he wouldn’t let me go out of the house... what should I do?” Lisa panicked. She never knew that her marriage was only for her healthy kidneys and the person that Rod really loved was Nico. “Calm down, Lisa. No matter what happens, don’t do anything rash.” Lindsay anxiously comforted Lisa, who was emotionally agitated. “Perhaps you can try this. Find a window that leads to a ledge that you can climb down and escape...” Lindsay thought for a while and then suggested. Lisa walked to the window and looked at the backyard downstairs. The second floor was not too high from the ground. As Lindsay said, she tied the bedsheet to the bed, then she should be able to lower herself safely to the ground. Lindsay’s persuasion and advice managed to assure and calm Lisa. Thereafter, she obtained Rod’s schedule for the next few days from the butler. She initially wanted to leave the next evening. The security must be the tightest when Rod was not in the villa. If she wanted to escape, she had to do so when Rod was back. When night fell the next day, Lisa made some soup for Rod when she found that he had a cocktail reception. “This was the French way. The old folks used to say that drinking a bowl of soup after a night of drinking and you’ll wake up the next day as if you never had a drink the day before!” Lisa smiled sweetly and looked at Rod affectionately. Although he was slightly skeptical of her claims, he still finished his bowl of soup which contained all sorts of substances to knock him out. Fortunately, she had behaved herself over the past year which had made him less defensive toward her. She tossed the rope of bedsheets and then slowly lowered herself to the ground. Thereafter, she used the gardener’s ladder to climb out of the high wall surrounding Rod’s house. Lisa had one final look at the place that had imprisoned her for most of the year. She then walked away from it without looking back. She planned to go directly to Muir City to meet Lindsay, who was on a business trip. However, Lisa, who had almost never left the house alone, encountered some trouble at the train station. She felt the cold tip of the dagger as it was pressed against her back. Lisa took a deep breath and said, “Sir, I really have given you all the money I have. Can’t we work something out? My husband is very rich. As long as you contact him, he will definitely give you a satisfactory ransom.” The kidnapper sneered and said, “Ms. DuPont, don’t you know why you were kidn*pped?” Lisa clenched her bound hands and lowered her gaze. “You were hired by Nico DuPont, weren’t you?” “Bingo! Even though he was very puzzled, he obediently handed Lisa her watch and phone. Lisa looked at the phone and tapped on a homemade mini program on it. Many people were unaware that Lindsey was a very talented software programmer and the President of the Smith Group, a high-tech software company. The small program on her phone was the gift that Lindsay gave her for her 18th birthday. “Lisa, don’t worry, as long as you activate this mini program, even if you are taken to the Mariana Trench, I can immediately bring my bodyguards and police to rescue you!” Lisa activated the program and waited for Lindsay’s rescue.
