The following day, I woke up Brighton early so that I could bring my plan into action. I rushed to work as quickly as possible, went inside and saw that Jamie had still not returned. I bolted into his room and opened his drawer and slid the walkie talkie inside of it. Noticing a small piece of paper beside it. I removed the paper from the drawer and began reading it. It seemed like a poem of some type. It wasn't written in the most easily understandable handwriting but It looked like the title of it was called " The Creature". I put it back in the drawer and closed it before making my way out of the room and closing the door.
The rest of the day went pretty well, with the exception of a few perverted comments from some of the fellow patients.. And from what I had heard, Jamie had returned back to his room. I wasn't exactly sure how I had missed that but to my understanding, Ms.Phillips had brought him in discreetly and escorted him back to his room. I only knew this because she had entered the break room to inform me that Jamie was doing well and that he was brought back. I asked if I could go so see him which she reluctantly agreed to. I knew she didn't want me bonding with him too much but it was kind of too late for that. We were friends. At least to me we were and I wanted to make sure that my friend was safe.
" Jamie?" I smiled as I knocked on his door.
Yeah?" He answered back, he sounded tired but he also sounded slightly happy to hear my voice.
" I..um..well I'm glad you are back..I missed you " I smiled, realizing how awkward that had to sound.
" I was gone for like a day.." he answered.
" Yeah well, what would I do without your sarcastic nature? Check your drawer, I left you something" I was so excited for him to see the present.
And after some shuffling around, I heard him pull something out of the drawer.
" You got me a walkie talkie? " he asked, confused.
" Yeah. I noticed your room doesn't have a buzzer so I got you this. I thought it would maybe help in case you got in trouble and needed some assistance. We'll that..and i figured we could keep each other company..even when I'm not here"
He seemed to pause at this.
" Okay. I guess that will be cool. But how am I suppose to know when to talk to you? You could be sleeping or something and I don't want to wake you" he answered.
" Wake me anytime you want. I will always have the walkie talkie on me so anytime you need anything, don't hesitate. I also left you some new books in there so I hope you enjoy them. They are some of my favorites " I explained.
I heard some more shuffling coming from behind the door, I was assuming that he was organising the books in the way that he saw fit.
" Thank you.." he answered.
" Don't mention it. I hope you enjoy the books. I need to get home though. So if you need me. Ya know. Walkie talkie me " I smiled and turned away, making my way outside and biking home. On the way, I heard the crunching sound of the static coming through the walkie talkie.
" Get home safely. Don't rush, just make sure you take your time.
He warned me, which made me smile. The fact that he even cared at all that I made it home safe felt really nice. I didn't want to answer him until I got home, so once I did, I ran up stairs, ignoring my mom's invitation to dinner, and pulled him out of my pocket and layed down on my bed after closing my door.
" I made it home safely " I answered.
" Good. I'm glad you did" he sighed as I Stretched out on the bed.
" By the way, my name is Allison but you can call me Allie " I had realized I never properly introduced myself.
" I actually like that name. It's really cute" which made me smile even wider.
" Well thank you. Have you got everything you need? Are you feeling well? You had me worried " I confessed as I stared at my ceiling.
" Yeah. The doctor said I wasn't eating well and that is what caused everything to happen.." he seemed rather closed off about the subject. His tone was alot more serious now.
" Well you need to be eating properly. You gotta get big and healthy and strong " God i sounded like a mother or something. I really hoped he could just ignore that.
" Yeah well its hard to do when I am not fed properly here. I get one meal a day " s**t. I remembered that now. He wasn't fed the same as the other patients either. And I never brought that up with Ms.Phillips. I needed too though.
" Is it because you didn't eat the food you had before and so they started limiting it? " because apparently that had been the case with the psyche evaluations.
" No. I don't know why they limit it. But I'll be fine. I'll manage" he answered.
" No don't pull that s**t. I'll take to them tomorrow and see if I can arrange something. Don't worry, I got this. I'm gonna make sure you are going to start eating properly dammit"
Plus I'm pretty sure it is some form of cruelty code violation to not be feeding patients properly.
" Well..I'm going to go to sleep. Goodnight Allie " he cut the conversation off so quickly and it kind of made me feel bad but I knew he probably was tired from all the crap he had been dealing with " Goodnight Jamie "
