Date Night With an Angel

1003 Words
Kynan arrived at the coffee shop at the same time as Amy. She was wearing a long purple dress that flowed around her ankles when she walked and a denim jacket straight out of the seventies. As usual her hair was free and flowing around her shoulders. He wondered what it would look like if she wore it up. Amy's face lit up when she caught sight of him. She made her way over to him and absent mindedly took his hand in hers. “Isn't this place amazing?” She asked looking around at all the mason jars filled with lit tea candles. She had been helping out at her sister's jewelry shop all day, so they had arranged to meet after dark. “Not as amazing as you.” The words had just slipped out and Amy blushed, turning her face away. Kynan grabbed her chin and turned her back to him. He placed a light kiss on her lips and felt her smile. He pulled back to meet her eyes and stroked her jaw with his finger tips. “Let's find a seat.”   In no time at all Amy was laughing at something Kynan had said. “I'm serious!” He insisted. “This naked guy comes running out of the bushes at us screaming “Attack!” with a crown of flowers on his wild hairy head. And I mean like Tarzan wild.” Amy giggled. “Anyway, I tackle him to the ground where I manage to get him in a head lock and Ryan leans over and goes, “Bloody hell, that's Tim!”. Turns out he had eaten some strange berries off a bush and was high as a kite. The funny thing is that he's always so serious and well-groomed all the time. Then there he was butt naked yelling and carrying on like a crazy person.” Kynan smiled at the memory as he took a sip of his coffee. Amy was drinking a cup of tea that smelled of roses and honey. She watched him tell his story with wonder. His green eyes sparkled with laughter as he told her about his youth. He seemed very fond of his friend Ryan and even Tim, who he claims wasn't really that much of a friend. The night was coming to an end way too quickly. There was barely anyone else left at the coffee shop anymore, and even the foot traffic had died down. It was getting late, and Lexi would be finishing her shift soon. If she found out Amy was out with Kynan, she'd kill them. Lexi had to walk right past them to get home too. Kynan placed his hand over Amy's and rubbed his thumb over her knuckles. “I should go soon.” Amy hated to tell him. “Stay.” He insisted and she nearly gave in. “I really wish I could.” He could see the sincerity in her eyes and it warmed him. “Maybe I can come home with you?” He tried to read her emotions but couldn't quite get a grip on them. At least she didn't seem freaked out by his question. “If my sister came home and saw you, she'd freak out. Like try to stab you freak out.” Not to mention all the brand-new anti-angel wards inside the apartment. “She doesn't like you dating huh?” Her brother was like that too. “Dating?” s**t. Kynan hadn't realized he'd said that. Amy's pulse was racing. Were they dating? Kynan wanted to say yes but he couldn’t. There was a nagging feeling in the back of his mind that told him this went against everything he'd been taught. As much as he wanted Amy, he couldn't have her. “I meant in general.” “Oh.” Why was she so disappointed by that? Kynan was a full-on heavenly Angel, and she was a mix-breed demon. The kind that other demons wanted to kill for fun. It would never work out. “I should go.” She repeated. Amy got up to move away from the table and it took all of Kynan's strength not to stop her. Disappointed Amy walked home, unaware of the thing that followed her.   When she got back to Lexi's apartment, she let herself in and changed into shorts and her Hello Kitty PJ top. She had just slipped on a pair of fuzzy pink socks when the front door was kicked in. Screaming, Amy threw her hands up to defend herself, activating the silver and turquoise bracelet that Juliet had given her. An invisible shield formed in front of Amy protecting her from the first blow. The demon who had come charging in growled at her, showing fangs that were as long as knives. Vampire. Contrary to popular belief, vampires were not one of the species that needed an invitation before entering a person's home. He struck out at her again, this time howling when he hit the shield. Amy dove for her phone but he caught her around her waist and tugged her roughly against his chest. She felt the piercing pain of his fangs in her neck and screamed. Thinking quickly before he killed her, she drove her heel into his knee sending them both to the floor. His fangs disengaged from her neck and she rolled away. Amy got to her feet and prepared to fight him off. She was a lousy hunter and an even worse fighter, she needed her family. Unfortunately, the vampire was between her and the phone, so she couldn't go for it again. He launched himself at her and Amy's fist shot out. She connected with his nose and blood sprayed out. The vampire didn't seem to care as he came at her again. He was getting faster, or she was getting slower. Amy heard the vampire laugh. He was taunting her. What was that about fangs and a sedative?
