Chloe’s POV
Anxiety keeps me awake half the night. A couple of hours later, I gave up trying to put my brain to sleep and sat up in bed glancing at the clock on my nightstand.
My eyes strained against the neon blue light of my bedroom. I stretched my arms and legs rubbing my eyes as they fluttered open fully.
A couple more minutes passed by as I stayed still in bed, trying to process all I’d been told by Lucas. Wondering how on earth I had agreed to such terms.
I Fell silent, a million thoughts swirled in my head. Dangerous thoughts, ones that I couldn't filter before they became actual words.
“What would the others around me say?” I thought out loud, placing a hand over my face with my eyes shut tight.
I stared at the clock a couple of seconds later, realizing how far gone I’d spent seated in bed lost in thoughts. A couple of minutes afterward, I perked up to my feet and headed for the shower. Knowing I had a long day at school and was probably going to pass out halfway through the class.
“Chloe!!” Monica’s voice echoed through the hallway of my house, followed by her usual morning rants about me always showing up late at school.
Not that I cared about that anyway…
Instantly, my door swung open as I watched her barge into my bedroom like she owned part of the rent deposited for my apartment.
“Put some clothes on girl, jeez!!” She scowled, holding a hand over her face trying to block off the view of my naked self in front of her.
“Okay, okay!” I scowled back, as I had my towel wrapped around my naked body.
“Hurry up!” She yelled. But then I had my dress for the day picked lazily with a mocking smile creased on my face as I stared at her. Knowing I wanted her pissed over nothing.
“Can we go now?” I asked.
“Jeez!!” Monica responded. And I couldn't help but giggle at her little pissed reaction as I followed suit from behind her.
****************************
I found myself lingering at the college cafeteria much longer than intended, completely engrossed in my work with Monica seated across from me munching on her meal.
In the zone, I managed to make significant progress on my assignment. Feeling a bit exhausted, I leaned back in my chair. I looked around in search of the waiter, and I blinked in surprise when I saw how crowded the place had suddenly gotten over the short time we’d been there.
The place had transformed into a lively hub of activity, brimming with college students. Nearly every table was occupied and the air was filled with laughter and animated conversations.
I had my gaze back on my laptop in front of me, trying so hard to focus knowing I had work in a couple of hours.
Almost instantly the door swung open, followed by murmurs from the other college students around. And just then Monica kept tapping on my thighs, like she’d indeed seen something.
“What the f**k Monica!” I scowled, as I snapped my eyes angrily in her direction.
Just as I’d done that, my eyes widened in shock to find Lucas headed in my direction. A straight look creased on his face as he had his hands shoved into the pockets of his pants.
The minute our eyes met, I gave him a furrowed brow glare which for some reason didn't bother him in the least.
‘What does he want this time?” I thought to myself as I watched him trudge towards me.
“Men he's hot!” Monica yelled uncontrollably. I had a look of disgust on my face the minute I noticed the murmuring from all the other college students apparently, all because they’d seen him.
“Get a grip dimwit!” I scowled at Monica seated across from me, as she drooled over Lucas. Who was headed in my direction?
After a while, which could have been a minute or an hour. He broke the spell by letting his gaze drop at the book I was clutching to my chest.
A smile crawled up his face, the minute our eyes met, and just then I looked away feeling a bit awkward staring at him.
He probably must have noticed the girls around drooling all over him and also must have seen the look of disgust on my face.
“We have to talk,” His deep baritone echoes in front of me, causing the other girls around to yelp in excitement for some reason.
“I'm obviously in the middle of something,” I responded.
“Now!” Lucas ordered, almost as if he was finding it hard to get rid of something.
I had my eyebrows raised staring back at him, wondering what the hell was causing his sudden reaction. Knowing having him disobeyed was sure to make matters worse, I perked up to my feet packing up my stuff.
“You’re leaving already?” Monica’s voice pierced through the tension in the air, snapping me out of my reverie.
“She’ll be back in a couple of hours,” Lucas surprisingly responded, cutting Monica off.
‘Hours?’
‘What about work?’ I thought to myself as I followed suit from behind him headed for his car.
The ignition of the car started as we hopped in, with me seated across from Lucas in his limo. My eyes locked outside the window, with my fingers tapping nervously on my thighs.
For some reason, everything around me felt so unreal seeing that he’d just had me picked from school. Before the very eyes of the other college students.
My eyes trailed off to the look on his face as he glared into his phone, brows creased with a frown like he’d been upset. I’d wanted to ask but then thought of all that to be unnecessary.
“Hmmmm…Where are we going?” I asked, right after I had my throat cleared breaking the silence between us.
“Flynn’s school,” He responded, with his eyes still fixed on his phone.
‘School?’…
