Emily sat on the chair of her room’s balcony. She was thinking about how she and her family really enjoyed dinner a while ago. She wished she could spend more time together with her family, but she knew she couldn’t. This place still held painful memories for her. Besides, she already considered Rimeca as her home. When she arrived here, she couldn’t stop herself from remembering that painful night, when Kai left her, crying. She had moved on, but she hadn’t forgotten. There was a knock on her door. “Sis, may I come in?” It was Almira. “Yes, sure.” Almira entered, carrying with her two glasses and wine. Emily laughed. “Aren’t we done with that?” Almira went straight to her table and opened the wine. “Well, Father didn’t allow us to drink much because of Amelia. Come on. Join me.” Almira handed her a glass of wine. “Cheers!” They said in unison. They both sat on the chairs and started talking about random topics. They laughed, smiled, and even showed serious faces at some point. “Sis, I’m happy that Father really welcomed me today.” She smiled sheepishly at Almira. “I know. He’s really proud of you, Em. He just doesn’t show it much. I’ll tell you a secret.” Her sister winked at her. “What is it?” “I’m sure Marcus hasn’t mentioned this to you but you see, from time to time, Father would always ask Marcus how you were for the past years that you were not here.” “Really?! But he asked me to leave when he learned about my condition.” She couldn’t believe what she just heard. Almira waved her hand at her. “Yes, I know. But I think he had a change of heart when he learned about your accident.” “But he didn’t visit me, Almira.” She was staring at her glass, thinking about how she waited and waited but he didn’t come. Almira sighed. “Father could really be insensitive sometimes. But anyway, I hope better days will come for you and Father.” “I hope so.” There was a moment of silence. She noticed that Almira was staring intently at her, as if she wanted to say something. “What is it? What are you thinking?” Her sister released a very deep sigh. “Emily.” “What? Why the deep sigh?” She suddenly felt worried. Amelia had just gotten a divorce. It was possible that she still felt sad. “Is it about Jacob?” “No no no. I’m happy with my life now that he’s not part of it anymore. Em, I need to tell you something. I know I’m not supposed to tell you this because Father has warned me not to, but I just wanna try.” She reached out to hold Emily’s hand resting on the table. “Em, this is about Elise Enterprise.” She released Emily’s hand and stood. Then, she started walking to and fro in front of Emily. Emily felt a bit nervous upon hearing it. Elise Enterprise means Kai Stevens. “For the past 4 years up to now, Father has been trying to strike a deal with Kai Stevens just to be able to get Elise Enterprise. After all, it's Mother's company. Her legacy, Em. Kai Stevens has never accepted any of it.” Emily was just listening as Almira spoke. From time to time, she would take a sip from her glass of wine. “Father doesn’t want to give up even though he knows that Stevens would not give in. It pains me to see him like that, Em, knowing that it’s also my fault.” Almira looked at her sister with teary eyes. If only I had not allowed Jacob to take over the company, it wouldn’t have had happened. But it’s too late for that.” “Don’t blame yourself, Almira. It’s not your fault.” “Em, Kai Stevens’ lawyer came to Father’s office the other day. He said that Kai Stevens is willing to give back Elise Enterprise to Father.” This time, Almira was staring intently at Emily. Emily could feel her heart beating a little bit fast. “What’s his condition?” Almira shook her head. “His lawyer didn’t tell us the condition. He said that his client, Kai Stevens, wants to personally inform this person about his conditions.” “Who’s this person?” She asked but she already knew the answer to it. “You, Em.” ** KST Group of Companies Emily was in the wide parking lot of the building owned by Kai Stevens. Inasmuch that she didn’t want to step her foot on any of his properties, she had to do it for the sake of her mother’s legacy and also for her father’s peace of mind. It took her two days before she finally decided to face the man whom she didn’t want to have any connections with. Again. She had never thought that this would really happen, but she had to do it. She went out of her car and proceeded to the main entrance of the building. She headed straight to the reception area and asked for the direction of the CEO’s office. “May I know your name, Ma’am?” “Emily. Emily Fort.” The receptionist’s face registered recognition upon hearing her name. “Oh, please wait a moment, Ma’am.” She talked to someone over the phone, and when she was done, she returned to Emily. “Ma’am, please follow me.”  She led Emily to a private waiting area and made her sit on its sofa. “Please wait here for a minute, Ma’am. Mr. Peter Chua will come down to fetch you, Ma’am.” Emily just nodded. She knew Peter. He was the trusted assistant of Kai Stevens. It was possible that Kai was really expecting her based on the receptionist’s reaction a while ago. She heard footsteps and when she turned to see who was coming, she saw Peter. She stood and gave him a simple smile. “Good morning, Ms. Emily. It’s good to see you again.” He extended his hand for a handshake and Emily took it. “Good morning, Peter.” She couldn’t say that it was good seeing him again since seeing him would mean seeing his boss. “Please follow me.” He led her to a private elevator. While inside, both of them were just silent. When they went out of the elevator, she noticed that the people on that floor stood and greeted her. “Good morning, Ms. Fort.” She didn’t know how to react. Surely, they were expecting her! They stopped at the door with a sign on it. Office of the CEO. Yes, she was nervous but she had already mastered the art of being composed during or in any kind of situation. Peter opened the door and motioned her to get inside. She thanked him before he closed it. When she turned, she saw a man seated on his executive chair with his right elbow on the table and hand on his chin, looking at her with his deep eyes.
