Chapter 3

The photography studio Violet had originally planned to surprise Raymond with had, in the end, become a burden to her. Now, they were no longer husband and wife. She, a foolish woman with neither name nor status, could only keep playing the loving partner until the day she left. She forced a smile. "Okay." Early the next morning, Raymond led Violet by the hand onto the yacht. As the horn sounded, she walked alone to the deck. The sea breeze brushed lightly against her, carrying away most of her sorrow. "Ah! Raymond... you're hurting me..." A faint, coquettish voice drifted out from the cabin. Violet frowned slightly and walked over, only to run straight into Winona. She was wearing a revealing bikini, and on the pale skin above her chest were several faint kiss marks. Violet's breathing caught. "Why are you here?" Winona tilted her head and smiled. "Violet, didn't you know? You're here today to shoot my yacht photo set!" It felt as if Violet's heart had sunk into a suffocating swamp. She looked at Raymond, her fingertips trembling around the camera in her hand. "What... does she mean?" Raymond gently draped a shawl over Winona's shoulders. When he turned back, his gaze had darkened. "Vivi, last month she landed six million-dollar endorsement deals. This is the reward she deserves." Violet stood there as if frozen, staring blankly at Raymond. Was this yacht trip really meant to celebrate their wedding anniversary, or had he used the anniversary as an excuse to lure her here just to satisfy Winona's wish? Her voice shook. "Raymond, the company employs hundreds of photographers, and you want me to shoot a model? Do you know what my appearance fee is? If you want to reward her, do it yourself. I don't want to dirty my camera." "Violet, I earn my living with my own hands. How does that make me some skin-baring model?" Winona's eyes instantly filled with tears. "If you don't like me, I can choose not to shoot! But what gives you the right to humiliate me? Please respect every profession!" "Vivi, you've gone too far." Winona's tears successfully stirred Raymond's sympathy. Pressing his lips together, he signed his name on a blank check. "One million dollars. Consider it my fee for hiring you for a commercial shoot. Is that enough?" A sharp pain stabbed through Violet's heart. "No." Raymond tore up the check and wrote another one. "Five million dollars. Enough?" "No." "Ten million dollars." Violet's nose stung. "No." Raymond was too busy comforting Winona to notice Violet's reddened eyes at all. She suddenly slapped the check down on the table. "One hundred million dollars." "Vivi, stop being so stubborn. As long as you shoot for her, whether it's one billion, ten billion, or a hundred billion dollars, I'll see it through." Winona blinked innocently. "Mr. Morrow, I'm not worth that..." Raymond smiled more gently than the sunlight. "I, Raymond, have always been fair with rewards and punishments. One hundred million dollars is nothing. Compared to making you happy, it doesn't even count." Then he turned to Violet, a trace of chill flashing across his eyes. "Vivi, is one hundred million dollars still not enough?" Violet gave a light laugh and grabbed the check, about to tear it up. The words This is our marital property were almost on her lips when the light reflected off Winona's sapphire diamond ring suddenly struck her eyes. She froze. A year ago, Raymond had suddenly replaced their wedding rings with a sapphire set.
