Chris was already up when I finally crawled out of bed the next morning. He was seated at the breakfast bar, having a cup of coffee and reading something on his iPad. “How are you feeling?” he asked. “Like shit.” My body ached, my head hurt, and even though I’d managed to get some sleep, I felt exhausted, like I’d been up all night. Chris poured me a cup of coffee and I thanked him before taking a seat next to him. “What happened last night? You didn’t say much about the accident when we left the hospital.” “I must have hit a patch of black ice on Lake Shore Drive and I lost control of my car before crashing into a tree.” “Was anyone else hurt?” “No, thank God.
