Chapter one
The door slightly cracked open to a room covered in total darkness. Looking intently figure moved in the darkness, with each of its step like a thief avoiding to be caught. The figure moved swiftly to the other corner of the room.
It kept moving but this time towards something, it stopped again, then stretched forward its hands to pull the curtain aside.
There, the light from the world glistened through the dark windows, exposing the figure of a girl standing, her back turned, her slender hands drumming lightly on the window as she hummed a sound only her could understand.
She took her strides again but gently this time, as if she pitied the ground that she walked on. She removed her scarf, revealing her lush black hair that stopped just above her waist.
She switched on the lamp, her face now brought to light. The dark circles beneath her hazel eyes tells she had witnessed a lot than her age, her pointed nose was with a little scar that had a minor story, her lips soft but not lush as they have been deprived of blood, the way her eyelashes flutter every second makes one falls in love with all her flaws.
She was on a black spaghetti strap top, which contrasted well against her not too smooth skin. Even In the dim light, one could see she was a teenager.
She readjusted herself on the tired bed as she packed her hair in a ponytail, revealing the necklace that dangled on her neck. A smile crept up her lips as her fingers fondled with it, she could feel nature calling to her that she giggled, breathing all of the little air in the room and exhaling to keep herself warm.
She cuddled herself with the blanket, and to the stars she turned, counting it to fall asleep.
Bang. Bang. Bang.
Before she could stand, a figure entered with force.
" Violetta '' The voice came, it was of a girl of the same age as Violetta searching for her. The figure carried the lamp shade on the table to search for something. She paused suddenly, as if finding her lost treasure. She yanked the lamp away to switch the light on in horrors.
The earlier dark room was brought to light, but everything there was lifeless. From the little cracks on the wall to the tired paint used to clothed it, the cushion from the late 90's that stayed as a garbage at the corner of the room, the blue rug underneath the bed torn at its tips, the standing mirror covered with dust, the Christmas lights that looked abandoned on the walls, the purple wardrobe that had begun to loose it colors, the one legged chair resting on the desk carefully that with just a push everything would collapse.
But amidst the stuffiness there was warmth from all of the archaic things, the potted plants of different species at every corner of the room symbolizes hope that will rekindle, the arts on the wall took away the tiredness of the wall, the picture of a woman and a little girl in the country side assisted the flickering light bulb in providing light, the green boxes arrange juxtaposing to one another made the room worth a second look.
" Why did you switch off the lights in the first place?" The voice came again, this time the girl's features can be seen.
Her hair was like a massive red bush surrounding two wide green eyes. Freckles faintly dotted her cheeks.
She wore a faded denim skirt with a blouse, her heel boots reaching her thigh and her red hair bouncing as she talked. She reeked of liquor and from her lips, she has been on drugs all night, her little bruises on the arm showed she snuck in the house.
" I am talking to you Violetta!" The girl said, walking towards Violetta with a smear. Violetta looked through the window as she draws the old blanket to herself.
" Ellen…Ellen " Violetta's voice was heard, it sounded like a high pitched whisper from a strangled cat.
" Now, you can't talk? You w***e " Ellen said, tapping her left leg on the ground as if waiting for an order from the above to give Violetta another scar on her pretty innocent face. Violetta stared at Ellen, she had no right to have such a disarming smile, she thought to herself.
" What are you doing here by this time?" Violetta managed to say, her eyes looking at the door every second they get off Ellen.
" This is my house, my rule!" Ellen shouted, her eyes laser focused on Violetta as her body changes form. Slowly but within a glance, she had turn into a black werewolf. She jumped on Violetta on the bed, pining her to her back as she pounces on her.
Violetta managed to push her off, but Ellen was fast to get back on her feet and immediately turned into her human form. She pulled Violetta long black silk hair as she made way to the door.
" Stop….Ell. End" Violetta whimpered as she was dragged down the staircase.
" Plea…see" Violetta coughed rolling to the other side to catch her breath. She folded her hands to a fist that she immediately hid when she heard footsteps.
Violetta glared hard at Ellen while struggling to get on her feet, she brushed back her hair and stood upright as she watched Ellen retreating. Violetta thought to herself I am always the victim even for sleeping in the darkness they threw my world into.
She glanced at the stairs. What if she went to the kitchen, made some coffee? And ignore everything to leave a normal life as it seems?
She pushed the thought away as her subconscious mind laid out the consequences and continued towards the staircase she was previously begging for mercy. She paused at her door, her hands laid on the cold rusted metal doorknob.
Just like a steady heartbeat, her old wall clock ticked loudly, she had barely slept for 3 hours when Ellen wreaked havoc on her already perturbed life.
She stepped into the room and approached her fallen bed, the room she had arranged after the late night house chores that she managed to pull through after rigorous school practical supervised by one of her enemies devised as a chemistry teacher was upside down.
Violetta sat on the floor, her black hair acting like a curtain to shield her face from the light while she sobbed. She whimpered, her lips trembled as she screamed in her head like a murderer consumed with rage, she didn't bother cleaning the tears that gush through her eyes like a busted pipe.
And she remembered every smile from her blurry childhood, not that it was perfect but she still had someone who placed her first, she once enjoyed a three square meal and she did spread her wings and if she could come plain to herself, the memories were clear.
But it was something her subconscious mind made up, because as far as she had lived no one has ever loved her.
