Amelia didn’t want to tell anyone what had happened, but how was she to explain this? “It’s Elisha’s decision; she hasn’t said why. She doesn’t want to get married” To Amelia this wasn’t a lie, it wasn’t telling the whole truth, but it wasn’t a lie.
“What a shame. Perhaps it’s just nerves, and she’ll change her mind later on, you’ll see.” Mrs Dowell tried to be reassuring, but judging by the look on Amelia’s face it wasn’t working.
“Did you find any information on the Kiltys?” asked Amelia.
“Oh, yes, I was talking to one of the old ladies in the village and she remembers her mother talking about the Kiltys, but she’s not sure what yet. She’ll get back to me when she does, if she ever does. She is very old.”
