“Give me a hand with this coffee, will you?” “Can I get tea, please?” he asked in a small voice. “Don’t push your luck,” she replied, but there was a hint of humour in her voice that made Rowan feel a little better. They had just brought the tea and coffee to the sitting room and sat down with their cups when Emily returned to the room. She sat down next to Rowan but didn’t look at him. He gave her a quick glance. Her make-up was smudged although she had tried to patch it up. He wasn’t sure if he should say something to her, ask her if she was alright.
