Chapter 6: Agency

My fingers tapped repeatedly on the table, my eyes dully scanning the room for something that would attract and hold my attention. It was a faded black room, hints of yellow behind the decaying walls, smelling strangely of urine and blood. Fifty minutes ago when we arrived at the base as Richard had claimed it to be they arrested me on the spot, why? Because apparently I look suspicious Richard tried to stop them but they said that he was brain washed with the words foolish creature at the end, probably directed to him. I'm guessing this room was a holding cell for prisoners, what time though,I couldn't tell. It was gradually getting hotter, which means the room is made out of metal. I glared at the ceiling. "They're planning to roast me alive. Just dandy, I come here thinking I get to catch some idiotic crime syndicate that believe I'm stupid and that I didn't notice the fact that there was no such company on the web or in any other file that I have. And secondly I went through a horrid series of tests and nearly died five times. Then I am ushered in to a boat,to my hotel and nearly get kidnapped by a 'taxi' driver. And when I arrive at the supposed place that is safe for me they bring me down or is it up? To a holding room that's made out of metal and can be heated up like a kettle." I complained to myself. "And I'm talking to myself." I add mellow dramatically before commercially falling off of my chair because the door suddenly sprung open and Richard and a green haired man entered the room. I jumped to my feet glaring at the extra man.  "This is Nickolas, he's a full guardian. The agency decided to test to see whether you really aren't a spy but a guardian." Richard says giving me an apologetic smile. I stared blankly at him for several seconds.  "What. Test?" I hissed out through gritted teeth already hating the concept of another bloody test. He flinched and rubbed the back of his neck. "Ah, apparently if you're a guardian you'll have some semblance of magical energy in you which can be measured. I'm sure it won't be as bad as the guardian tests." Richard says nervously. Humming back in response I turned to Nicholas. " My name is Alyssa Evergarden, I'm a professor and private investigator." I say holding my hand out and cringed inwardly, I'm only being friendly towards this man because he was about to test me and I don't want to get hurt so early after having nearly lost my mind.  Sighing he shook my head though there was a small smile on his face.  "Nicholas Goncalves, a nero scientist, please follow me, Professor Evergarden." He says and turned around walking in to the hallway. I followed after eyeing the portraits of old men and woman pinned to the walls. Each of them having dominant expressions and oppressive auras. The walls were painted a blaring white with red splotches apparently hidden by white but they were still here. Images of battles and dying men briefly flickered through my mind's eye, begging for my attention. My finger twitched as I eyed the spots of red dots, groaning out loud I stepped closer to the walls studying them, I noticed from the corner of my eyes as Nicholas and Richard watching me with curious eyes.  "Did a battle recently occur here? There's more than one spot on the walls, even the ceilings covered in blood. And to top it all off.....the white paint smell way to new to be- Oi!" I yelped as Richard took my hand and dragged me away.  "Yeah, a battle had transpired here recently. About seven weeks ago. And I suggest you never ever mention it again. The agency hates losses of lives. Especially the newly trained." He states softly having leaned closer to my ear to say what he had. I nodded though numbly, feeling slightly nauseous.  With every breath I took it became more clearer that not only had there been a war here but aspiring guardians had died in this very corridor, perhaps friends of those who are to be chosen. I had seen them myself and know for a fact that each of them are young and incredible geniuses. It would bother me greatly if so many lives were lost in front of my eyes or even in the building that I live in.
