Chapter 36 – Court Date

1251 Words
Madison’s POV It has been three months since that day in the basement at my parent's estate in LA. Jordan gave us insight into Maverick's plan. I would have never known that this world was so twisted. I replay that day over and over in my head. “Listen in order to show my appreciation for saving my uncle back then, I am willing to help you take down my uncle Maverick. You must understand the only way to stop him is by killing him, that will be the only way to ensure he is not sitting some where plotting. He got the family back then after my uncles supposed death. Him and his family was spending money like crazy, but the family business was suffering. Me along with my other cousins that worked under Malachi try hard to save the businesses. When money got low, he decided to start selling off the companies because all he really cared about was the wealth. Once there was nothing left, he went to your father because Charles Anderson was the godfather of the American mafia, and he always helped out other families. He pleaded with him to help save the family, but your father refused. That is when Maverick formed a huge dislike for him. So, he started doing things he knew your father despised like the selling of drugs, weapons, and humans. He thought this would get your father’s attention, but it did not. Your father still refused to help, he chose a less settling way to deal with Maverick by taking down his operations and blowing up his warehouses. Maverick was taking to much loss, so he talked to his daughter and decided to kill his wife for the insurance pay out. He made it look like a normal car accident. His current wife is not Sarah’s mom, they killed her.” Jordan said We all stood there that day in shocked silence. He also told us that Sarah, and her pregnancy was all planned. She deliberately got close in order to seduce Aiden, because at the time in New York he was one of the youngest CEOs in the area. They definitely did their research on him and knew what moves to make. Aiden was so stupid to fall in their trap. When we realized just how sick Maverick and his family were, my brother finally decided to wait to take action against that family. We have spent months planning it was our original plan to take six months to plan and heal as a family, but our plans got changed when I received a summons from my ex-husband to appear in court. So here we are as a family back in court. I am so glad I have Jayden he has been a wonderful husband throughout this entire process. I was deep in thought sitting in the corridor of the courthouse and have tuned everyone out thinking about what Jordan told us three months ago. I feel some one touch the side of my face gently turning me to face them. “Hey sweetheart you, ok? they are calling us to go in now.” Jayden says. I smile and get up along with my family and lawyer to walk in the courtroom. We are the first ones in the courtroom, so I decided to ask Caleb a question. “Caleb how confident are you that we will win the case?” I ask. “We pulled a great family court judge. This particular judge has a problem with cheaters, so that is going to work in our favor. We originally drew another judge, but they called earl this morning to say that he was sick. So, they ended up resigning us a new judge.” Caleb says with a big ass grin on his face. I already know what he is thinking. We sat in our seats and waited, the judge came in but the other party or their attorney was no where to be found. Caleb through down his pen and stood up. “Your honor the defendant dragged us all the way here to New York, he could have at least had the decency to show up. My client is a successful businesswoman and had to take time out of her schedule to come over to defend herself against these baseless allegations.” Caleb said. The judge whispered something to the clerk and then gestured for her to step back. We all were sitting there in anticipation, but wouldn’t you know as soon as he was getting ready to make his decision the door bursted open. In walks Aiden’s attorney alone no doubt. Caleb sneered and whispered in my ear. “I see lover boy decided not to show up.” Caleb said while sneering. “Your honor I apologize for my tardiness and the absence of my client, but he has found him self sick and in the emergency room. He is suffering from a gastrointestinal infection. If it pleases the court, we would like to ask to be granted a continuous.” He says. “Your honor as I stated earlier my client and loved ones had to take a five-hour flight in order to make an appearance in court. I feel like this is just another plan by the plaintiff to prolong this case.” Caleb says. “Your honor I have a note from the doctor for my client. This situation even though regrettable could not be avoided.” He says. The judge bangs his gavel signaling Caleb and the other lawyer to stop their back and forth. The judge asks to see the doctors excuse for his verification. The lawyer hands it to the judge's clerk and returns to his seat. We are all waiting for his decision. I know it is not going to go our way when the judge sighs. “In light of the situation, I have no other choice but to grant the plaintiffs attorney motion for a continuance. I apologize Ms. Anderson because I understand you have traveled so far, but some things cannot be helped.” He says. Before he can continue Caleb speaks up. “Your honor may I request that we set the date for the next time you are available if possible.” Caleb says. You can see the other attorney is agitated with Caleb’s request, but he doesn’t have time to object because the judge speaks to the clerk and comes back with a date a week from today. Then he bangs his gavel and get up to leave. I grab Caleb’s jacket sleeve, and he turns around to see what I want. “Why did you make such a request, when you were just fussing about me having to travel all the way here.” I ask. “Because I don’t think that Aiden is sick. I believe that they are playing games, because they didn’t want this judge on the case. His attorney already knows how this judge operates. He has strong views on values, and he is not going to side with Aiden no matter what, so they decided to delay thinking they could wait for the other judge.” Caleb says. At that moment, the opposing counsel walks over and request a meeting with Caleb and I. Caleb shows no mercy telling him that he was willing to talk to him, but I would not be present. I wander what kind of games these people are playing.
