New Beginnings

He was right after about twenty minutes, we pulled up in the driveway of what used to be my home. I'm mentally preparing myself to face Daniel. I just want to be in and out. I opened the door. I still my nerves, then closed the door. Leon gets out as well. Briggs and Kai do too, but they stay by the car. Leon hands me the duffle bag and escorts me to the door.
Leon: You ok?
Me: Not really.
Leon: We got you. Nothing to worry about.
He rings the doorbell. Noise can be heard from the inside but no one answers. Leon rings the doorbell again. A short girl opens the door wearing just a T-shirt and starts giggling. Her eyes immediately went to Leon. She bites down on her lower lip and moves her shirt off her shoulder a little. I moved in front of Leon.
Me: Daniel here?
Girl: Danny, you have guests!
Daniel came up behind her and wrapped his arms around her. He kisses her on the cheek. When he looks up and notices me, he basically throws her out of the house. I moved so she didn't knock me over. He turns to grab her shoes and throws them at her. She shields herself not to get hurt.
Girl: Danny! What the hell?!
Daniel: I told you. I have a girlfriend! Get outta here!
Leon: This guy is hilarious.
Me: Your telling me.
Daniel: Melanie? Melanie, is that really you?
He fixes his hair and clothes, then walks towards me. Leon steps in the way. It's like watching alphas go at it, but calling Daniel an alpha is an overstatement.
Leon: She came to get her things.
Daniel: And who are you?
Leon: No one to you. Let's keep it that way.
Me: I want my things, Daniel.
Daniel: Uh yeah. Come in.
I walk in. Leon tries to come too, but Daniel stops him.
Daniel: Not you buddy.
I look back at Leon. Giving him a look of reassurance.
Me: It's ok. I'll be right out.
Leon: You got 10 minutes.
Me: I won't be long.
Leon steps back. He doesn't look too happy, but he doesn't go against it either. He goes to the porch railing and crosses his arms.
Leon: Ok.
I head in and go straight to the room. I started putting my clothes in the bag.
Daniel: Who is that guy?
Me: The brother of a friend.
Daniel: You don't have any friends.
He laughs, then tries to grab my hand. I try to pull away, but he pulls me closer. His grip was tight on me.
Daniel: Oh baby, I missed you. I was worried sick. I was such an i***t. Please forgive me babe.
I finally managed to get out of his grasp. I can't believe he thinks I'll take him back or even want him anymore. I haven't even been gone for 24 hrs.
Me: You think you'll say what you said to me and everything is going to go back to normal? You've got some nerve. Not to mention you had another girl here.
Daniel: I'm sorry I was drunk I didnt mean it. I don't know how she got here.
Me: Do I look stupid? Do I have stupid written on my forehead? You loved me when you slept with those girls behind my back?
Daniel: I told you I was drunk. I'm sorry. You know I love you.
I rolled my eyes and went back to packing. He snatches my bag from me and starts taking my things out.
Daniel: You're not going anywhere. Especially not with that guy.
Me: Give me that bag. I'm getting my stuff and leaving.
Daniel: No. I said you're not leaving.
I reached for the duffle bag again. This time he yanks it from me. He throws it towards the floor. He stares me down. He balls his hands into fists. He starts hitting himself in the head, then punches a hole in the wall.
Daniel: Your mine. You're not going anywhere with that guy.
I damn near jumped out of my skin. I was so scared I started backing up until I hit the dresser. I screamed for Leon.
Me: Le-
He covers my mouth. I can see the anger in his eyes.
Daniel: Now you call him?
A smirk spreads across his face. He starts stroking my face. He stops due to a knock on the door.
Daniel: Let me guess your friend's brother? I'll take care of him.
He leaves and locks the door. I ran and started banging on the door. I tried to open the window, but it didn't budge. I ran back to the door and started beating on it.
Me: Leon! Help me!
I scream. I don't hear any voices. Oh no. He probably told Leon I was going to stay here. Please don't believe him.
No sooner do I hear glass breaking. I started beating on the door again, screaming Leon's name. I hear more destruction going on. Please be OK Leon.
Leon: Where the hell is she?
Me: Leon! I'm in here!
He unlocks the door. I ran to him, tears in my eyes. His hand is bleeding.
Leon: It's ok. I told you we got you. Get Lilly's duffle and let's go. Forget your stuff. Anything of importance you need?
Me: No.
Leon: Then we're leaving.
He grabs my hand and we leave the room. Briggs has Daniel held against the wall.
Daniel: She's my girl!
Leon: Not anymore.
We keep walking. I look back at Daniel. He looks back.
Daniel: Melanie please. Dont leave me. I'm sorry.
I get ready to open my mouth, but Leon beats me to it.
Leon: Save you're sorry. Someone else now has the chance to treat her better.
Daniel: Like who? You?
Leon: Maybe.
We walked out the door. Briggs is right behind us. Once again, Leon opens up the car door and I get in. A car pulls up, and a girl steps out.
Girl: Hey Danny.
Daniel: Not now. I'm busy. He snaps at her.
He came towards the car. Kai, Briggs, and Leon all block his access to me.
Leon: Back off.
Daniel: She's my girl.
Leon: You know what? She's my girl now.
Leon stares him down. The most serious look on his face. He opened the door and helped me out. He pulls me into his arms and kisses me. I don't have time to react. The girl stands there confused until she sees me.
Girl: Your girl? I thought I was your girl?
Daniel: You are nothing to me. Only she matters.
She looks so hurt now. She starts cussing him out, then gets in her car and leaves. Leon helps me back into the car, locks my door, then closes it. He and Kai get in. Briggs stays outside the car, facing Daniel. Leon backs out, Briggs hops in the back and we speed off. I look back as he's standing there watching us drive off.
Me: How'd you know I was in trouble?
Leon: Kai.
I look back at Kai.
Me: How'd you know?
Kai: I walked around not too long after you went in. When I found out what room you were in, I saw how he was reacting and you looked scared. So I went and told Leon and you know the rest.
I start crying. These guys are really nice. I'm glad I met them.
Me: Thank you guys.
Leon: It's nothing. We got you.
I look back. Kai and Briggs nod in agreement with Leon's statement. I smile. Tears of joy spill out. I have never had friends before. If this is what friends do for each other, I wish I had found this a long time ago. I look over at Leon, who looks like he's deep in thought. I feel bad for dragging them into my drama. I turn and stare out the window. The ride was quiet the whole way back. We hop on the interstate and head home. Yeah, my new home. I'll miss that house but not him. I'm ready to start a new life.
