Not Possible

We arrive back at the apartment building. The guys get out and head in. I start to get out when Leon stops me. He motions for me to bend my head down. I feel something cold on my neck. It's my locket and looks like it's been freshly shined. I looked up at him.

Leon: I forgot to give it to you this morning.

Me: Thank you. I forgot about it with everything that's been going on. It's all I have left from my parents.

Leon: Well, you have it back now. It looks good on you. Also about what I said earlier to your ex. You're no one's property. So I wanted to clear that up.

Me: I know. I didn't think you meant it.

Leon: Also sorry about the kiss. I was just trying to give him the hint but didn't consider your feelings, and I'm sorry.

I grab the locket in my hands and open it. I see my parents and me smiling. I feel tears brewing. I quickly shut it and wiped my eyes. Leon grabs my face in his hands.

Leon: Everything will be OK. I promise.

I nod my head. We both get out of the car and head inside. We get in the elevator and head to Lilly's apartment. The guys are already there.

Lilly: I heard things didn't go as planned.

Me: They didn't, but it's fine now.

I go into the kitchen and pour myself some soda. Leon comes and makes him a cup as well, adding a little rum to it. We then join the others, who are watching a scary movie. Lilly has a sectional. So she and the guys are on the long part and me and Leon sit on the short end. There's a nice gap between us. I look over, and I notice that Lilly and Briggs are holding hands. I subtly tugged on Leon's shirt and gestured towards them. He nods in agreement. My mouth drops open. He starts laughing.

While watching the movie, I feel eyes on me. I looked over and noticed Kai looking at me and once we made eye contact he quickly looked away. I continue to look at him in case he looks back, but he doesn't. Finally, the movie ends.

Leon: Alright, we're gonna head out. We'll see you guys later.

Everyone starts to get up. All but Leon. He seems lost in thought again. Lilly and Briggs are saying their goodbyes. Kai had already left. Leon grabs my hand and we walk out. I'm not sure what he wants, but he's acting shy. It's kinda cute. We walk outside and he closes the door behind us. He finally speaks up.

Leon: So I have been meaning to ask you this.

Me: Sure. What is it?

Leon: Can I have your number?

Me: Uh yeah, about that. It's broken. It got messed up when I jumped in the water.

I pull it out of my pocket. I tried cutting it on but had no luck. He looks at it, then asks the weirdest questions.

Leon: What's your favorite color?

Me: Blue.

Leon: Your favorite animal?

Me: Well, it's actually an insect. Its butterflies.

Leon: You don't have a favorite animal?

Me: Not really. They all get too big. Unless it's a teacup Siberian husky. They are so cute!

Leon: Ok. Noted.

Me: Why do you ask?

Leon: No reason. I'll see you tomorrow angel.

He takes my hand and kisses it just like before. His lips feel warm on my hand as they linger there longer than they should. I started clearing my throat to give him a hint it'd been long enough. I pulled my hand away only for him to pull me into a hug. His scent was intoxicating. I pushed him away and laughed.

Me: Bye Leon.

I started backing away, my hand slowly slipping out of his. I walk back into the apartment and Briggs is walking out. I closed the door behind me. I look at Lilly. I covered my mouth.

Lilly: So you saw?

Me: I'm sorry. I just looked over and saw you two holding hands.

She covers her face. She's embarrassed. I told her something to change the subject.

Me: Leon kissed my hand again and this time I didn't protest his angel comment. He also asked me about my favorite color and animal.

Lilly: Why'd he ask you that?

Me: He asked for my number. I told him my phone got messed up that night. He said he was coming by tomorrow.

She stands there thinking hard. A grin spreads across her face.

Lilly: I guess we'll find out tomorrow. I'm gonna head to bed. I got to work in the morning.

Me: Ok. Night Lilly.

Lilly: Night Melanie.

She heads to her room. I went to go and make a pot of coffee. While waiting for it to brew, I looked at my locket, remembering how Leon gave it back to me. Finally, the coffee is done, so I make a cup. I go into the living room and watch some TV. It's lonely and nothing is on television. Wish I had a phone, but who would I text? Daniel and I aren't together anymore. I finished my coffee, then cut the TV off and headed to my room. I get in bed and look at my locket again. I replay how Leon gave it to me again and smiled. I curl up in bed and drift off to sleep.

I woke to a knock on my door. I hate having my sleep disturbed. I flung the door open expecting Lilly. To my surprise, it's Leon. I slammed the door closed. s**t! I can't let him see me like this. I'm sure I am looking like a hot mess right now.

Me: Give me a minute!

Leon: Take your time!

I hear him laughing as he walks away. I hurried up and got dressed. I rushed to the bathroom, washed my face, threw my hair in a ponytail, and headed to the living room. When I arrive, he is sitting on the couch. He grabs my hand and pulls me towards the couch. I'm sitting in front of him now.

Leon: Close your eyes and hold your hands out.

Me: Why?

Leon: Just do it. Please.

I do as he asks. I felt something slightly heavy land in my hands. I opened my eyes. It's a phone with a baby blue phone case with a blue butterfly clip on. I looked at him. I'm in shock.

Me: Thank you. But why?

Leon: Well, how else are we supposed to talk? Unless you like seeing my face every day. I'll take it back and just do that.

Me: Uh no.

Leon: Well, my number is already programmed in.

I give a hug. I slowly pulled back but stopped inches from his face. Before I realized what I was doing, I felt my lips gravitating to his. I kissed him.

Me: Oh my gosh! I'm so sorry.

I turn away. I've just made this moment so awkward. He's going to think I'm coming onto him. I apologize profusely again. He stands up. I tried to grab his hand, but he pulled back.

Leon: I'm got an errand to run. So I'll text you later.

Me: WAIT! LEON WAIT!

He closes the door and leaves. Stupid. Stupid. Stupid. Why did I do that? He probably has a girlfriend. I am so stupid. I ran to my room and closed the door. I keep reliving it over and over again in my head. I hear keys. That must be Lilly. I ran out of the room. It's her.

Lilly: Hey. Everything OK?

I started rambling everything to her at once. Pacing back and forth. Just yammering on and on. She grabs me by the shoulders and shakes me a little.

Lilly: Ok chicky. Slow down. What happened?

Me: Leon was here this morning. He bought me a phone.

Lilly: Oh. Awww, that's so sweet. That's so nice of him.

Me: Well yeah, it would've been, if I hadn't ruined it. And our friendship.

Lilly: How could getting a phone ruin our friendship or anything with Leon?

Me: Because I kissed him! Your brother! Every girl knows you should never date, or in this instance, kiss your best friend's brother! It didn't help because then he just left with an excuse about having to run errands. I'm too scared to text him and he hasn't texted me.

She thinks for a moment. She goes to her room, then comes back out. She starts typing away on her phone.

Lilly: I'll find out what's up. I texted Briggs. He'll get the info from Leon, and I'll let you know what happened. Don't let it stress you out Hun.

Me: Ok. I'm going back to my room. I'm ready for this day to be over.

I go to my room and flop on the bed. Leon seems like a good guy. I wouldn't mind giving him a chance. I spring up. No. No. No. Am I actually starting to like Leon? It's only been three days. I end up not being able to sleep due to my mind not being able to stop thinking about Leon. This isn't good.
