I woke up the next day feeling groggy. I go out of my room and Lilly is in the kitchen making coffee. I was surprised to realize she had tattoos on her thighs, her arms, her back, even one on her foot. She turns around and notices the look on my face.
Lilly: What's wrong?
Me: I didn't know you had tattoos.
Lilly: Oh yeah, I have quite a few. Kai and Leon got me into them.
The mention of Kai's name makes you go against Leon's words. I can't help but ask.
Me: How close are you and Kai?
Lilly: Honestly, we are closer than me and Leon. When Leon got with Summer, he kind of put me and Kai on the back burner for her. Like family was nothing compared to one year of being with her.
Me: Has anything ever happened between Leon and Kai that they would argue about?
Lilly: Not that I know of.
I think to myself. Hmmmm. Something is going on between them. And I want to find out what so everything can go back to normal.
When Lilly arrived home from work, I asked her if it was OK if the guys came over.
Lilly: Sure. I dont mind.
Me: Ok. I'll text Leon.
I texted Leon asking if they wanted to come hang out. He replies instantly saying sure. About 20 minutes later the guys arrive. Kai isn't with them.
Me: Where's Kai?
Leon: He was outside smoking.
Me: Ok.
I give Leon a hug. He squeezes me back. Lilly in the kitchen making drinks. I go to see what she's doing.
Me: Are these alcoholic drinks?
Lilly: Yep. Felt like playing bartender tonight.
She hands me a drink. I take a sip. My eyes light up once the flavor hits me. It's super delicious. She looks over and laughs.
Lilly: I see you like it.
Me: Like it? I love it! It's the best thing I have ever had.
She throws her hands in the air as if indicating a victory for herself. Kai finally enters. I grab a cup and handed it to him.
Me: Hey. You finally showed up to the party.
I smiled at him. He smiles back, but once again it doesn't stay. I feel eyes on us and when I look, I see Leon glaring at Kai. Kai goes to walk away but I stop him.
Me: Hey. Can we talk?
Kai: About what?
Me: Well you never want to be around us anymore. I am starting to feel like it's because of me.
He sighs, running a hand through his hair. He looks over at Leon, who is giving him the death stare.
Kai: Look.... I'm sorry if I've made you feel that way. It's not you. I'm just going through something and someone isn't making it any easier for me.
He looks over at Leon. He thanks me for the drink and heads over to the couch and starts playing on his phone. I headed back over to Leon, who was still looking at Kai.
Me: Hey. What wrong? Why are you staring at him like that?
He shakes his head like he just snapped out of a trance.
Leon: It's nothing. Just keeping my eye on him.
Me: Why?
He grits his teeth. He takes my hand and walks me to my room. He closes the door behind him.
Leon: Remember I told you about how my ex cheated, and I caught her.
Me: Yeah?
Leon: Well, the guy was Kai. Ever since, we have never been cool. He's still my brother, but I don't trust him as far as I can throw him.
I stand there shocked. I can't believe Kai would do something like that to his brother. That's why he didn't want me to get close to him. He worries about history repeating itself. I grabbed his face and gave him a reassuring kiss.
Me: That won't happen.
Leon: Promise?
Me: I promise.
He slides a hand around my waist, pulling me closer. His other hand grabs my face and kisses me. This one is different. It's as if it's meant to clear my mind. I slowly began to lose myself to him. He continues to kiss me, each kiss becoming more deepening than the last one. Finally, we break apart and I try to catch my breath.
Leon: If you're still shy after that, I don't know what will change that.
Me: Oh hush. Let's get back to the party.
We hold hands and leave my room. Lilly and Briggs are in the kitchen talking and Kai is still on his phone. He looks over at me and I look away. I lay my head on Leon's shoulder. He abruptly gets up and goes out the door. Usually I would be concerned, but not anymore. Now that I know what he would do to his own brother.
