7. Twist of Fate

The wind knocked out of her, she took a few seconds to recover before she tried to shove the person off of her. He did not budge. “Let go of me.” She asked, looking up and finding the most piercing blue eyes she had ever seen. And the way they were taking her in… “Let go.” She struggled and managed to free one hand. He let the other go and stood. She stood too. “I am sorry.” He said with a frown. “Did I hurt you?” His voice was like a trombone being played in the wind. It was deep but it carried. And facially, he looked like a physical rendition of Prince Charming. She found herself subconsciously admitting she liked Sky’s looks better. It brought a sour taste to her mouth. “Are you okay?” He asked again, as she had yet to answer and she scowled. "You pounce on me like a deranged lion and you have the nerve to ask me 'Are you okay'" She tried to imitate the cool bass of his voice "Am I supposed to be okay?" "I'm sorry. It was wrong of me. I'm very sorry." He apologized so sincerely, Kayleigh couldn't bring herself to be angry, plus, she had to leave before Sky found out she was gone. "Apology accepted. Bye." She stated and was about to leave when he held her arm. She stopped, looking at him in question. "I'm also sorry for this but it's according to protocol, so I can't let you leave." "What?!" What was wrong with the guys here and trying to keep her against her wishes? "You're at the Alpha's house." "Yes, she is." Sky's voice boomed from behind her and Kayleigh felt like she was hit by an iron rod. Sh*t. “Well, if it isn’t Alpha Sky himself,” Kayleigh could hear the distaste in the man’s voice. “What are you doing out of your haven at this time of the day? Don't you have some procedures or something to attend to?" The guy asked. "Well Chris, as it turns out, Kayleigh is my number one procedure," Sky replied him with a maturity Kayleigh had to respect. "You're kidding?" Chris looked like he would pass out as he looked from Kayleigh to Sky "You can't be serious. I mean that's not........" "She's your Luna." Sky answered proudly. “No, I am not.” Kayleigh argued. "Holy fuck." Was Chris' reply. “She can’t be.” “Can’t she?” “No. Because I feel her pull.” Sky’s face turned hard and unreadable. “I suggest you do not mess with me Sylvester.” Sky warned using Chris’ surname. “I do not care what you think about me but I sure as h*ll will not mess around with something like this.” Kayleigh looked from one man to the other. Neither made a move and when she got tired of standing around, she sighed and turned toward the house. Sky’s eyes trained on her immediately. “Oh, don’t worry. I am not crazy. I will not try in front of you. Tomorrow is always another day.” She side stepped him glaring at him as she went and when she was in the house, she gritted her teeth, angry at her foiled plan. She headed for what she agreed, would be her temporary room and explored it. At least she had learned one thing, she should not be caught in the vicinity of the Alpha’s house. She paused as a frown marred her brows. But who was Chris? And if he was also claiming to be her mate, then it meant something was wrong and Sky was wrong. And she could go home. Curious, she stepped out of her room in search of them. She did not go far. One moment, she was going down the stairs and the next, someone grabbed her arm. They did not hold on long as someone else (she recognized Sky’s touch which annoyed her to no end) pulled her away from him. “I will not let you cut her.” Sky said to Chris who was holding a blade she recognized from hours of endless study of ancient relics. “Why? Are you scared we’ll find out she’s mine?” “Christopher…” “Do it.” Kayleigh urged causing them both to turn to her. “What?” Sky asked. “Do it.” She repeated. “Kayleigh, I am going to have to cut you. Deep.” He explained. “I know. I know the blade. But promise me that if this proves I am not your mate you will let me go home.” “Kayleigh…” “She said do it, Alpha.” Chris urged. Sky looked at Kayleigh and at her eager expression, he took her hand. “This is going to hurt quite a bit.” He warned waiting for her to back out. “I can take it.” She said and Sky took a deep breath and used his thumb to draw a line on her right palm, feeling the softness, the way her blood rushed. “Wesley, you are wasting…” He sliced and pain radiated through her. From her palm to her entire arm, it radiated to her skull where it burst into a splitting headache. Through her blurred vision, she saw Sky take an awkward step back and then he was replaced with Chris who grabbed her bleeding palm. Her vision cleared a few seconds later but the pain did not abate. “She is not mine.” Chris sighed looking as the way her blood dripped to the marble. “But that is not possible, that makes no sense. I feel it.” He looked up at Kayleigh, “So much.” He let go of her hand as Sky approached. “And do you feel that too?” Sky asked. “What?” “Her pain.” His voice was rough with anger and the mirror of the pain she was feeling. It pissed him off more thinking how he was forcing her to endure that pain. “I hope this settles it.” He told Chris who nodded tightly and before walking out of the house. “But it does not settle it for us.” Kayleigh said. “No. This does.” He took her right hand with his left hand and both their gazes turn to his raised right hand. The first thing she noticed was the sudden quiet from the drip of her blood unto the floors. The second was that it was pooling on his hands in the exact same spot her cut was and she knew what that meant. He was telling the truth. “Do you believe me now?” But it could not be the truth. It was not possible. They could not do this to her. They had promise her they would not interfere. They had promised. Her heart lodged in her throat as she felt the sting behind her eyes. It was unfair. But with the evidence right there, she could hardly deny it. “Kayleigh.” Sky called and she looked up at him unsure what to feel. Angry? Sad? It was not his fault anyway. He was also subject to the fates’ every whim. “Are you okay?” Was she okay? Anger rose in her. How dare he ask her that. How dare he bring her there. It was all his fault. Every single thing was his fault. “We should heal that.” His voice was far away and she could not react in time when his hand left hers to grab her face and his lips planted on hers.
