Shock. She assured herself that the only reason she was standing there letting this arrogant man...wolf...hybrid, kiss her was because she had a severe case of stroke from the shock of everything that was happening not because his lips were soft but firm on hers and she was thinking thoughts she had never thought before. . He felt hot, like he was on fire and the flames had engulfed him all at once. The moment his lips collided with hers, he knew legends we're true. This woman, his mate made him hot. By just a kiss. He removed the hands that were framing her face to put them around her waist and pull her to himself, so he could feel her, every outline of her. She didn't resist. He sucked on her bottom lip lightly asking for entrance and they parted slowly. His triumph was short lived when her hand left her sides but instead of coming around him, she used it to push him away. "You son of arse!!!" She yelled a light Irish accent highlighting her words. "How dare you touch me?" And then she bunched her fists and took a swing aiming at his face. He caught her wrist seconds before it met his face. "You'll hurt yourself." He told her and let go immediately. His libido was in overdrive and he was noticing everything about her. From the way her delicious lips quivered as she breathed hard still out of breath to the way her chest rose with each breath. They were both lucky she pulled back when she did, before his logic left him. "How dare you kiss me?" She asked. "I'm sorry. I should have asked your permission." He said really trying to actually feel sorry. But how could one feel sorry for something that invoked a kind of satisfying fire in your gut. Something that made you feel like howling from a mountain or yelling from an airplane. The apology stunned her. She narrowed her eyes at him. He didn't seem like a person who would apologize easily. "Are you really?" She asked. "Look Sweetheart, I've apologized what else do you want from me?" Sky questioned quietly scrubbing his hand over his face. He had not yet returned to his right state of mind and that pout on her mouth, that beautiful, alluring mouth. He wanted, no, needed to kiss her again. It made his blood sing. Loudly. "I want to go home." She said firmly. "You said you would stay if I proved you were mine.” He frowned confused. “No, I said I would believe you and I do. But I do not have to like it or want to play along with it.” “Kayleigh…” He groaned. How could one person be so stubborn? “Please, stay.” "What about after the war you claim is ongoing?" She challenged and he sighed. "If I'm assured of your safety and have your word that you won't run away then I will let you go if that is what you want." Was that really true? "Is that a promise?" She raised a brow and he seemed to debate on it before answered. "You have my word." He answered and she took her own sweet time thinking it over. She couldn't get out without help. That much she knew. And fighting him into letting her go was not an option. The guy was as solid as a rock. And if she wanted even a slight chance of escape, she needed him to trust her enough to at least let her walk free. "Fine. But don't expect me to pretend I'm happy about it." "That's fine. As long as you follow instructions we'll get along just fine." Instructions? Her brows drew and she lifted a finger at him. "Look here Mr. I'm not your slave or part of your pack. I am only staying here because I know it's foolish to try to escape as I don't even know where I am. And because I have your word that I get to go home but I will not, definitely will NOT be following any silly laws that you ordained. Are we clear?" She sounded like she was lecturing a teenager on the side effects of drug abuse. "Sweetheart, as long as you're staying here, you will have to. I've worked hard to build this pack and I will not have anyone, no matter who it is break it because she can't follow some simple rules." This time he was dead serious and it sounded non-negotiable. She almost gulped but she was Kayleigh Murray. "If that's so I have some conditions of my own." she challenged. "Let's hear them." He folded his arms and sat on the desk so he could look her eye to eye. He thought he saw her squirm but he couldn't be sure. “Fine.” She walked closer to him. "First, I want those hideous pink curtains removed. Pronto. I hate pink." She said and the side of his lips lifted in a slight smile that made her want to stare. She ignored the feeling. "Second, I want to talk to my mom as frequently as I can." He frowned at that, again she ignored it. "Third, I need clothes and other stuff." A hint of color appeared on her cheeks at that admissions and Sky nodded. "Fourth, if you make me sit in a house all day, I'll either run crazy or destroy your house so I'll need somethings to do." she concluded. "First, you love pink. I see hints of it on all of your things we recovered from your desk at work.” “You cleared my desk?” She was dismayed even though she had not even thought of going back there. It was her first real job and she had worked hard for it. "Yes.” He answered simply. “If you want the job after all this is over, it is still yours.” “And my mother?” “I will arrange it though it may take a while.” "Third, I arranged for clothes to be delivered here tomorrow.” “It’s not just clothes I need.” “I know there will be other essential items, I picked them myself.” “You picked out my things?” “Yes.” “All of them?” She tried to fight the blush that creeped to her cheeks. “Yes.” Either he did not know what she was talking about or he was having fun pretending he did not. “Who gave you the right to pick out my stuff?” "I don't need anybody’s permission Kayleigh. You are mine." "We're going to have a big problem if you keep thinking like that buddy. I am no one's but myself and you'll do well to remember that. And I have not accepted this whole mate talk either so back off." "I know it's a lot to process" Sky started looking for a balance point "so I'll give you time. And I'll try to be less.... domineering but you must understand it's natural to me." He said and she scoffed... mentally because she knew he was trying. "But we can at least try to get along." "If you agree to my terms. We can 'try.'" she agreed. "Thanks. Cherry will tell you about the rules. Some may seem bizarre to you but please follow them." "If I see anything too weird, we'll have to settle for a compromise." "We'll settle that when we get there." He nodded. "Now about something to do, you don't have to do anything. You're the Alpha's mate. Of course, the Luna has some responsibilities but we can manage till you are more familiar with the system." "Wesley..." She warned and he shrugged. "You are going to have to accept it sooner or later. I know you feel it. Don't deny it." She did feel it. But she would definitely not admit that to anyone. Not even herself. "All I feel is caged. And I have to do something while I'm here." "Well, this place is like an entire state. You can go shopping or lunching or whatever girls like to do...you seem like you’d enjoy something crazier. Shooting? Sky diving? We have everything. But that has to be after I've shown you around and with suitable entourage, of course." "You're an a**, you know?" She stated and he quirked a brow with a smile "Why the stupid smile?" "Because if anyone else dared call me that, they'd either be dead by now or close to it but coming out of your mouth it just sounds sincerely amusing." He answered honestly and she glowered at him. Her mouth, Sky thought. Her lovely, sweet mouth. He just wanted to....... he shook his head clear of that thought. She'd rip him apart, or at least she'd try and then she'd get herself hurt. "I meant that I need something to do like work." "And I said the Alpha's mate doesn't work." "I am going to hit you so hard your face will sting even if it costs me my hand the next time you call me your mate." She promised. "That is exactly what you are." He reminded her. He didn't like her denying it. It made him anxious and that in turn made him angry. She was his. Exclusively. "Wesley..." "You can take up the house hold responsibilities if you think you really need to." He offered changing the subject. "Household responsibilities?" There was amazement in her voice and she didn't know if he didn't hear it or if he ignored it because he continued right on. "Yes. Things like, cleaning, cooking my meals, doing my laundry, making my bed, sorting through my clothes. All things you do have to be for my sake or yours though. You're a not a maid. Oh yeah, you can redecorate and change those curtains you claim to hate. Does that sound good?" He asked and she gaped at him. Never in her life had she felt so useless because she couldn't use her powers. What she'd like to do was send a large fireball right through his skull or better yet, a wild thunderbolt. Surely that will make his brains kick start. The nerve of the i***t. "You want me to do household chores?" It was a whisper of disbelief. "No. But since you insist on doing something, it’s the only thing I could think that would suit your position." She laughed. Hard. So hard she had to clutch her stomach. Then she continued to laugh until she had to turn and hold on to his desk for support. Until tears ran down her eyes. Sky waited it out. He didn't find anything particularly funny about the situation. In fact, he felt a little angry not sure at whom. He watched as the tears came down her eyes and as she slowly, stopped laughing and was giggling lightly. "You…" She breathed slightly out of breath "...want me to do household chores? Are you out of your freaking mind? Despite contrary belief about witches, I've never handled a broom in my entire existence." She confessed. "I happen to remember Elly, the live-in maid adding vacuum cleaner to the house budget so I highly doubt brooms will be needed. Also, I didn't ask you to clean." He informed. "No," she giggled again "you ask me to do laundry." "And?" "Let's just say as much as I'd love to turn all your whites pink and maybe even bleach your blues, I will be at a very discomforting end should I try to use that beast called a washing machine." She shuddered a little as if recalling an unpleasant memory. "I want a real job. In an office. Preferably one that deals with lots of numbers. I'm an accounts major you see." She explained knowing perfectly well he was aware. He had been her boss, after all. "No." he stated blandly. "Don't tell me you're worried I'll find a hot and handsome wolf that is not you to make..." He was in front of her in a second cutting off her statement. "Don't you dare." His eyes were flashing green. "Don't I dare what?" She challenged. "Bait me like that. You won't like the consequences even if I am quite sure you're bluffing and none of my pack mates will do that, the thought is enough for me to lock you up somewhere so Don’t. You. Dare." "Why? You don't think I can tempt them." Her chin tilted up in defiance. "Oh, I know you can. But I also know you won't." She opened her mouth to deny it but shut it again and instead pushed a more important stand. "I have to work. I won't stay cooped up all day doing nothing." "I don't want you to." "Tough, this is not up to you because it's either let me work or this semi truce we've reached will be over." He chewed on that for a moment. He knew that even if he didn't accept the terms, Kayleigh would not be able to leave but he really wanted her to like him. "Fine. I have companies around here too. I'm sure I can fit you in one of them." His mind was already whirring weighing the pros and cons of each one. "Thank you." She said only partly mocking him. "I have to go now." He checked his watch "I'll be back for dinner at 8." He promised and he thought for a moment about giving her a light kiss on the cheek before leaving but he wasn't about to push his luck. Not where Kayleigh was concerned anyway. So, he just waved and strode out. "Also," he called as he reached the door "Cherry will tell you all about those rules." and he was out. As he left, she leaned on his desk thinking back on all she had discovered. She knew how important the matehood and stuff was to werewolves. She knew a bit of their history too so she knew werewolves mated for life. But the big question was 'Was she ready to accept a total stranger whom she had no liking for whatsoever into her life just because some stupid arrangement had been made from the heavens?' The answer to that was a resounding NO. Sky Wesley would not enter her life whatsoever unless she wanted him to. She would not accept him unless she wanted to. And she definitely didn't want that. He would have to deal with it.
