Finding McKayla

*beep* *beep* *beep* MyKayla scowled at the alarm clock. *6:30*  “Ugh” she groaned.  MyKayla’s POV:  “Time to get up sweetheart” My mom said opening my door. I slowly rolled out of bed. “Breakfast is almost ready.”  “Okay I’ll be down in a second” I said. She nodded closing my door. I sighed. Ever since my dad died 5 years ago she’s been trying so hard to make sure I had everything I wanted and needed. *Flashback 5 years ago* Me, my friend Maria and her brother were walking home from school when we heard it. Several of the packs fighters were running towards the south border in wolf form. I grew anxious and ran home. My mom was talking to my dad.  “Honey rogues breached the south border and I need to go help” “Be careful my love” she said. “Don’t worry I’ll be back soon” He smiled and gave her a kiss. “Dad what’s going on?” I asked worried. “It’s okay sweetheart, your mother will be here with you. I have pack duties I have to tend to. I’ll be back soon.” With that he walked out and headed to the south border.  Hours passed and dad still wasn’t home. I was starting to grow anxious and worried. I heard some men talking outside and rushed to the door swinging it open. “Alpha, Beta” My mom came to the door behind me. “ I’m sorry Alpha, Beta. She’s been waiting on Eric to come home.” She smiled. “Liz can we come inside?” The look on his face said everything.  *End Flashback* I sat on the edge of my bed pulling a brush through my hair before making my way to my closet. It’s Friday and the day before my birthday I needed something different for my normal clothes. “Kayla honey? Can I come in? I have something for you from your father.” I gasped. Running to my door. My mom stood there smiling while holding a rectangular box.  “What is it?” I asked  “I don’t know honey just go ahead and open it.” I opened it to find a beautiful leather jacket and knee high leather boots. I squealed. This would go great with the outfit I decided I couldn’t wear till I had the right shoes. I rushed into my closet coming back out with my white sleeveless corset dress. I walked to my bed and stripped off my pajamas. I could hardly contain my excitement.  It didn’t take me long to finished getting dressed so I stood up and walked to my desk. Dabbing a little makeup, I couldn’t help but realize this dress really showed my curves. Normally I’m all baggy this baggy that but I couldn’t help getting dressed up. Since tomorrow was my birthday my best friend Maria and her brother were hanging out in Crystal Peak. The beautiful beach in between our packs boundaries and The City of Crystals. I decided I’d actually do my hair and settled in a simple twist design. I twisted small pieces before adding them to a hair tie. Grabbing some small flowers and twisting them in as well.  I practically bounced down the stairs. I immediately smelled bacon.  “Mom this smells amazing”  I said making myself a plate. “Thank you honey. Here.”  She handed my a small box.  Why am I getting gifts the day before? When a wolf turns 18 they gain their wolf counterpart. You have an hour from the sunrise after you were born to possibly meet your mate before your first shift. I was taught the first shift was incredibly painful and having your mate close helped. Now I happen to have been born at 4 am. An hour before sunrise which meant I’d have my wolf early so today I knew I’d have to do something for my birthday. The shift can take several hours and once in your wolf form you want to explore nature a bit.  I opened the gift to find a new phone. Grinning ear to ear I realize there was something under it. A small envelope with some cash and a debit card with my own name on it.  “Mom what’s this for?”  “Honey this is your bank account. I went ahead and connected it to your new phone so you can check your balance and manage your account from it. I’ve also saved several numbers so you wouldn’t have to.”  I smiled. I heard a horn and quickly gave my mom a hug before grabbing my new things.  “Bye mom. I’ll see you tonight.” I called back to her as I ran out to door to the car.  “I love you. Be safe sweetheart.”
