Waking up to the peace and quiet of the house, Maya laid still on the bed, staring at the roof. A lot was going through her mind, disturbing the little peace she had. Not knowing what was going to happen next upset her. Being the kind of person who likes her life and her day planned out, you could understand how her situation affected her.
Taking a deep breath, she tried thinking about the bright side of the situation. Maybe it was a good thing she was gonna have a mate. Maybe having a strong Alpha as a mate would actually benefit them. She had always understood the concept of arranged and contract marriages but she just didn't think she would be into one.
Knowing all she could ask for right now was for Alpha Diamond to be good to her, she tried not to raise her hopes much. She forced herself up from the bed, put on her footwear and untied her hair from the bun. Walking up to the mirror by the dresser, she took off her oversized t-shirt, exposing her black bra.
She stood in front of the mirror, staring at her body and thinking about how she was gonna need to offer herself up to that killer. She shuddered from the thought of it alone. She unclasped her bra, got out of her shorts and grabbed her white towel, tying it around her chest. She picked up the stuff she needed and headed straight to the bathroom.

“I heard you've found yourself a mate" Vee announced, walking into the living room. Her dark silky hair resting on the collars of her jacket. She walked straight to the mini bar as though she owned the room. “I must admit I'm surprised. I was so sure you were gonna be a single Alpha" She added with a smug look.
“Good to see you too sis" Alpha Diamond replied with a sigh, crossing his legs on the couch. “And how did you come across such news?"
Picking up a bottle of scotch and a glass, she turned to face him, smiling at him. “News travel fast within the pack" She shrugged. “Who is she anyway? Someone I'm familiar with?"
“No, you're not. Her name is Maya and she's the daughter of Alpha Victor. We struck a bargain to end the war"
“Oh wow. An Alpha's daughter huh. What in the world would make you demand his daughter as a price? Oh... Let me guess... Cane!" She rolled her eyes. “This has him written all over it. I know you wouldn't just think that up. He's even more cold hearted than you are" She explained
“Yeah well. That's what we need to survive" The Alpha shrugged
“Where is he anyway? Thought you wanted him to go with me"
“He just has something else to take care of first. He'll be here soon. Just sit and relax in the meantime"

“Hey Cane!" One of the Betas greeted. “Cane" Called another, nodding his head at him. They kept on greeting as he walked past them in packhouse. Being the right hand Beta to the Alpha makes the individual the second in command in a pack. Although life hadn't entirely been the good for Cane. Picked up as an abaddoned cub, the former Alpha took him in and he grew up among the others in the packhouse.
He grew up closer to the Alpha's son. Navigating through adolescent and teenage years together, they grew up to be so close and as soon as the son became Alpha, he immediately made his bestfriend to be his right hand Beta. A decision which has proven to be the best one. Cane was loved and respected by the pack which helped the Alpha to navigate through the issues of the pack easily.
“Cane" Adam called, walking up to him. He was one of the Betas in charge of the security of the packhouse.
“Where is he?" Cane asked
“Through here" Adam replied, leading him through the passageway. “Oh and before I forget, Someone came to deliver this. He said I should give it to you personally and no one else should see it" He fished out a letter from his pocket and handed it to Cane.
“Did you open it?"
“No, he said it was for your eyes only"
“Okay thanks." Cane examined it before tucking it into his jacket pocket.
“Here he is" Adam annouced, pushing one of the empty room's door open and showing Cane a young wolf not more than 25 that was restrained to a chair. “He was the only one we could apprehend. I think he's an Omega" He explained
“How many were they?"
“Three. They were scouting and checking out our forces and land... We have tried to get him to talk but he isn't saying anything. I think he's one of Alpha Fang's Betas"
“He doesn't wanna talk huh? Well, let me try talking with him" Cane smiled.

Alpha Diamond watched as Vee turned the rest of the scotch into her glass and downed it in one go. “Isn't it a bit too early to drink a whole bottle of scotch?" He asked, his eyes still fixed on her.
“We are wolves bro. We don't get affected by alcohol as humans, remember?" She countered
“I'm just saying. You seem to be doing a lot of drinking recently. Anything I should know about?" The Alpha asked
“Nope. Focus on the pack. My life is mine alone and means nothing to anyone else" She quipped
“You know that's not true. You mean a lot to m..."
“Where is Cane anyway?" She cut him off as she immediately stood to her feet. “He's taking too long and I have somewhere else I wanna be. He should be here by now"
“Well here I am" Cane annouced walking in through the door.
“Well, if it ain't the right hand man" She raised her glass to him jokingly.
“It's good to see you too Vee" He flashed her a smile as he walked over to where the Alpha was. “That's you?" He pointed at the empty bottle and glanced over at Vee.
“Well I've been waiting a long time here" She shrugged. “Now can we please go and get this over with?"
“There's no need" He replied, sitting down next to the Alpha.
“What do you mean?" Alpha Diamond asked
“It is Alpha Fang's handiwork. It was one of his men we were called for. He's trying to make a move against us. I had a nice little chat with the Omega and he told me what the Alpha has planned although he passed out before he could give me the full details. But basically, we might have just ended the little war we had with Alpha Victor but we have a bigger one coming with the crazy Fang" He explained
“Well we have to get ready then. We need to take all the precautions we can and set up our defenses. If he wants the town, then he's definitely coming in with all he's got" Alpha Diamond replied, standing up.
“Where are you going?" Cane asked
“There is someone I have to see" He replied, heading toward the door.
“Alright then" Cane stood up, heading toward the door also.
“You're leaving also?" Vee questioned with furrowed brows
“I have somewhere I have to be as well"
“Great! Got called here just to be abandoned" She waved her hands in frustration.

Pulling to a stop, Cane killed the engine to the car in front of the barn. He looked out the window over the empty field and sighed. He could hear someone inside the barn and immediately knew it was him. He exited the car and started for the barn's entrance. “Hello!" He called, walking in.
“Welcome. I didn't think you would come" Alpha Victor stated with a smile as he came into view.
“Yeah well I got your letter" Cane held up the letter. “Why did you wanna see me?"

Alpha Diamond sat down on the little wooden chair in front of him. He looked around the thatched hut, staring at the cracked walls and grim looking structures placed all over. It wasn't his first time there but it still gave him the same eerie feeling as though it was his first. “You came seeking the wrong thing" He was startled by the familiar voice. That low, rough and parched voice that sends chills down anyone's spine.
He turned swiftly to the chair in front of him and saw the slightly bent old man in his black overall, walking to the seat. The hood shielding his face. “What do you mean?" He asked curiously.
“Yes, there is a war coming but not the one you think. There is betrayal coming but not the one you think" The man went on, ignoring the confused and puzzled look on Alpha Diamond's face.

“I know the kind of man you are. I know you're someone reasonable and someone with enough wisdom to know what is good and what is right" Alpha Victor explained, walking closer to Cane.
“Sorry, you got all these from meeting me just once?" Cane asked with raised brows.
“Yeah. I'm quite good at reading people, you know"
“Perherps. But can we get the main reason why I'm here. I need to get back to my Alpha"
“I need you to help look after my daughter when she becomes your Alpha's mate" The Alpha blurted out with all seriousness.
“What would I be doing that for? Your daughter isn't in any danger. She's mating with my Alpha, he's quite capable of protecting her. He's not gonna hurt his mate. She's completely safe"
“You and I both know that is not usually the case. Anything can happen. Especially when it comes to contract marriages. The thing is, she's all I've got and where she's going, I won't be able to protect her. You're the one who's gonna have eyes on her" He explained
“And what makes you think I can protect her? What makes you think I'm the right person to be telling this?" Cane questioned with furrowed brows.
“I don't know how to put it but I have this feeling that you're someone with honor and wouldn't want to see someone innocent suffer. Look, I'm not saying your Alpha is evil and I'm not saying he's innocent either. I just want someone to watch over my daughter while she's with him. If he's really caring like you said, then there shouldn't be any problem"
“Right" Cane sighed, thinking on it. He looked over at the Alpha and saw nothing but a father's love and concern for his daughter.

“I still don't get what you mean old one" Alpha Diamond pointed out, staring intently at him.
“You have a light heading your way. But with that light comes darkness and with that darkeness comes your downfall. To survive, you must root out the seed lest it becomes weeds and affects all that you hold dear. Becareful how you thread, lest you all meet your end. Decisions, decisions, decisions" The old one concluded, stood up and walked away, leaving the Alpha there, still on seat, pondering on the warnings he just received.
