The Beta's Secret Mate

Arrival

Leaning against the car, Cane watched on as Maya loaded her things into the backseat. She had arranged quite a lot of things in such short period. She dropped the last box, sighed and then shut the door. Without looking over at Cane, she walked over to the other side and got into the passenger side of the car.

Cane smiled softly and then got into the driver's side. He shut the door upon his entry and looked over at her. She kept her eyes fixed outside the window, trying so much not to cross eyes with him. He put on his seatbelt and turned on the ignition. “Here we go" He said as he pulled out of the compound.

Maya looked through the mirror and saw the porch of the house empty. Knowing her father wasn't probably able to watch her leave which was why he wasn't out, watching them drive away. As though reading her mind, Cane said, “I guess this isn't how he imagined giving you away"

“Yeah well, this isn't how imagined I was gonna leave either" She replied sternly and they both fell into silence. Maya kept her eyes outside the window, watching the trees and bushes go by fast. She could hardly comprehend how fast her life was going. It's all changing so fast and she hope she could cope with it. “I'm sorry about the other day" She broke the silence and then turned to face Cane who had a confused look in his eyes. “About what I said to you, thinking you're the Alpha"

“Oh! It's fine, really. I'm just surprised you didn't know who Alpha Diamond was"

“I have only heard of his name. I've never had a reason to come face to face with him" She replied.

“Well I guess now you do" Cane joked.

“You're his right hand Beta. What is he like?" She questioned, staring at him intently. “If I'm to be his mate, at least I should know the kind of person he is"

“True. Well....my Alpha... Although he appears complicated, he's actually pretty straight. Stands for what he wants, he's good. Where you might see a cold blooded killer, when you get to know him you'll realize he's soft and kind. I know you must have your own opinion of him considering the war we've been in, but if you're open minded, when you stay with him and try to see him for who he really is, then you'll feel different"

Maya sniffled, cleared her throat and stared back out the window, hoping all what he said was true and she didn't have to share a bed with a monster.

Alpha Diamond stood by the door, waiting for their arrival. Somehow he was feeling nervous about her coming. He had never stayed more than a night with a woman not to talk about having a mate all so sudden. He sighed softly, trying to shake off the nervousness. “Hide it all you want, I know you're pretty uncomfortable and nervous right now" Vee pointed out, joining him by the door with a mischievous smile planted on her lips.

“I don't know what you're talking about" The Alpha stood his ground

“Yeah yeah, for an Alpha, you lie lousely....My big bro is having a mate for himself. Father would be proud"

“Well he isn't here"

“Show some respect to the dead, will you?!" She smiled. “I hope she's worth all these though"

“Well, here they come" He Bobbed his head at Cane's car pulling up at the house, in front of them. He felt his heart skip a beat and his nervousness returning fully.

The car doors flung open and Maya stepped out of the car, her eyes meeting with the Alpha's. Her eyes held this innocence but yet confident look. “She's beautiful, I'll give her that" Vee's voice snapped the Alpha out of his thoughts.

“Welcome" Alpha Diamond said with a smile, offering her his hand for her to grab.

“Thanks" Maya replied, placing her hand on his.

“This is my sister Vee and you've already met my right hand Beta, Cane" He introduced.

“Welcome to the family sis" Vee flashed her a broad smile. “Come with me, I'll give you the tour and show you to your new room. Let's leave the boys" Vee added as she grabbed Maya's hand and pulled her into the house.

“Well? How was the drive here?" The Alpha turned to Cane.

“Better than expected" Cane nodded. “We have a lot to discuss but I guess it can wait until the morning. I should go" He added

“Wait, you're leaving?" The Alpha's eyes widened

“Yeah. Go be with your new mate. Have some fun, be yourself" Cane quipped as he got into the car. “Just don't be too much of yourself..." He turned on the ignition.

“What?"

“Ahh, this is going to be great" He laughed and drove off.

Alpha Diamond walked into his bedroom and found her arranging her clothes into the closet. He stood by the door just staring at her. He found her physical appearance to be mesmerizing. Her shape was divine and skin, clear like the sun. Her scent was driving his wolf wild and he felt a bit Lucky getting her as his mate. “Are you just gonna stare at me all day?" Her voice broke through the thoughts in his head.

“Hmm hmm" He cleared his throat and walked into the room awkwardly. “Sorry....I...I trust you find everything okay"

“So far, so good" She replied nonchalantly, still focused on her clothes.

“Good, good" He nodded his head and fell into silence, not knowing what else to say at the moment.

Maya finished arranging her clothes and then turned to face the Alpha. “I...I need to change out of theses clothes" She stated.

“Oh....." Alpha Diamond replied and continued nodding his head. He glanced over at her again and it clicked. “Oh! Yeah sure" He blurted out and began heading for the door. “I'll be back" He said to her before shutting the door behind him.

Maya immediately fell down on the bed, heaved a deep sigh and then buried her face in her palms. “s**t!" She cursed softly, trying to get used to the new normal that was her life.

Descending down the stairs hurriedly to answer the door, Cane was growing more angry at the constant knocking still landing on it. “Yeah I get it! Someone is there!" He called out, walking toward the door. ‘Someone who I should murder right now' He thought.

He unlocked the door and forcefully pulled it open only to see Vee standing there with her back turned to him. “Not again. Why are you here Vee? I can't keep doing this" He complained. Vee turned to face him swiftly and his eyes widened with shock as her face was covered in blood. “What the hell?"

“He....he...he's dead. He's dead Cane" She managed to voice out, her eyes glowing yellow instead of it's usual blue color.
