Chapter 13 first day at the nursery.

Alexis POV. I woke up to my alarm blasting out. I turned it off and slid my legs from under the covers. I felt drained and my arm was sore. It had taken me ages to get to sleep. I was uncomfortable due to my arm, plus it was sore. I had even got temped to go to the medical wing to see if I could get some pain relief, but I thought they may get angry with me. I would go on my lunch break today. I was starting work today in the nursery. Well in the afterschool room. I wondered what I would be doing as the afterschool room would be empty till afterschool. I got dressed into my uniform, then brushed my hair and put it up into a high ponytail. I grabbed my name tag that Kim had done for me yesterday and headed out the door. I had my head down and closed the door as I walked out. The landing was alive with activity, as most omegas started their chores at 6:15am or 6:30am. I was walking slowly and not making eye contact with anyone when I heard, “Hi Alexis.” I froze and fear started. I looked in the direction that it came from. Stood at the staircase was the Luna, Adonis and a warrior boy. I didn’t know him, but I had seen him train with the warriors. That’s how I knew he was a warrior kid. I smiled a little and nodded my head. Then the Luna began to walk down the stairs again, the boys followed close behind. I waited for a moment and remained still for a moment, before beginning to walk slowly. I wanted to make sure they had gone down a fair way before I reached the stairs. I really didn’t like the attention. I reached the stairs slowly and began to walk down them. I picked the speed up once I knew that Adonis was out the way. He was a cute kid, but he was also loud and the Alphas son. Way too much attention for my liking. I walked all the way down the stairs in my own world. Once I reached the bottom, I turned down the main corridor towards the nursery. I was still wondering what I would be doing when I almost bumped into someone. I managed to stop myself and looked up. It was Damon the warrior. He looked at me strangely. He had dark black hair and blue eyes. He was always so angry looking. “Sorry sir.” I said politely. “Watch where you are going young lady.” He said gruffly. “Yes sir. I apologise again sir.” I replied. I stood to the side and let him pass by before I continued. I looked up and watched him walk away solemnly. There was something about him. It was always the same, every time I saw him. He was always alone, and always seemed angry. It made me curious. I continued walking down the corridor towards the nursery, making sure to watch where I was going. As I passed the bakery, I could hear the Luna talking to someone. “He’s only 7. I don’t want him growing up too fast. I don’t want him getting hurt.” I heard her say. “He’s an Alpha’s son babe.” I heard someone else say before I was too far past to hear. I continued on to the nursery and walked through the doors. I headed straight for the reception desk. Kim was already sat looking at a computer screen. “Morning Kim.” I said happily. “Oh, morning Alexis.” She said jumping a little. “Sorry. I never heard you coming. Right. I want you to spend an hour in the afterschool room, just to familiarise yourself with where everything is and how it’s set up. Is that ok?” She asked me. “Yes mam. That’s perfect. I will go in now.” I said in reply. I made my way over to the room and pushed open the room. There were some kids my age inside. That’s when I realised that it was the weekend so there was no school. There were about 15 kids inside. I began walking around. I started at the gymnasium area, no one was on any equipment. I looked up at the bars that reached from the wall to the frame. It spanned about 10 ft in total. There were monkey bars and hoops plus angled bars and ropes. It looked quite fun to be honest. There were also weights at one end and large thick mats underneath the entire framework. I walked towards the tub area. I noticed that the couch cushions looked flat. I picked them up and saw that underneath them was full of rubbish. I looked around me for a bin. I spotted one beside the tv unit. I placed the cushion down and walked over to the bin. I took the bag out and walked back to the couch. I started wiping the rubbish into the bag, moving the other 3 cushions as I worked along it. After I had done that, I placed the cushions back on the couch. “Move it will you.” Someone said. “I want to sit down.” “Sorry, I was just cleaning it. I’m done now.” I replied politely. I grabbed the bag and stood up straight. I looked at who had spoken to me. It was a couple of warrior kids. They were a little younger than me with the looks of it. I bowed my head a little and headed towards the large reading area. I walked through the gap that made up the door and looked around the room. There were not mass amounts of books but there was quite a few. Most of them were fictional stories but there was an entire section filled with school type books. I looked at them closely. Maths age 10-16, English age 10-16 and some science books too. I wondered how hard some were, so I grabbed a maths book. I’m not sure what I was working from so I started at the easier parts. I found them rather easy, like the work I did in the packs school. I moved to the next section and read a few equations. They were more difficult but still relatively easy for me. I moved to the next age section. They were much more difficult. I looked at the age. 13-14 years. “What ya doing?” Someone say. I jumped out my skin. I dropped the book I was holding and quickly bent down to pick it up. “I’m sorry. I will move now I said without looking at who had spoken. “Alexis, you're ok.” The person said. After I had put the book away, I looked at who was speaking. It was Libby. She had a huge grin on her face. “Jesus Christ. You scared me stupid.” I said beginning to smile. “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to scare you, I saw you from the doors and wondered what you were doing?” She asked casually. “Oh right, I start working here today. I can’t work in the kitchen now due to this.” I said holding up my arm. “Oh my god Alexis. How the goddess did you do that?” She asked rushing up to me. “I fell down the stairs.” I lied to her. She looked at me, sceptically. “Anyway, I start working here now. I was told to get myself situated and learn where everything is.” I told her. “Does that mean we won’t see each other now?” Libby asked sadly. “Oh no. We can still meet at the library, or you can come see me while I work. I have always wanted to work with the kids.” I told her. “I know, I will miss you around the kitchen though.” She told me. “Don’t worry. I’m not that far away.” I reassured her. I walked up to her and embraced her in a hug. She hugged me back. “Alexis, can you come and see me please?” I heard Kim shout me. “Coming Kim.” I responded. “I will catch up with you later, Libby.” I told my friend as I walked out of the reading area. I walked to the doors and Kim was waiting for me. “There’s been a change of plans. I need you with the preschool children please.” Kim explained. “Of course. I would love that. I hope everything is, ok?” I replied. “Yes, everything is fine, but I have had a member of staff call in ill, so I need you to cover for me.” Kim explained. “I think you know two of the girls, we have anyway. Leanna and Carly?” She asked me. “Yes. I know them. I have watched them occasionally in the kitchen with Chloe.” I told her as we walked to the toddler room door. “Right. You will be working with Claire and Helen. Claire is the room leader and Helen is first aider. I’m sorry to just drop this on you but I hope you don’t mind.” Kim said rushed. “No, it’s fine. Thank you so much. I will see you later.” I told her, as I entered the room.
