The Rise of Blue Moon

A new position.

After about an hour, the nurse had finished putting my cast on.

“Now we need to let it set before you can leave.” She told me. I nodded my head.

“You can lay down if you want sweetheart. It’s going to take about an hour.” She told me, she watched me for a moment before turning and walking away. I was still sat on the edge of the bed. I remained sat for the entire time I needed to stay. Occasionally the nurse came and checked on me. Well just walked past and asked if I was. I only nodded my head. After an hour she came back and told me I could leave.

“You need to come back in 3 weeks' time, we need to check the healing process.” She told me.

“Yes miss.” I said and slipped off the bed. I walked straight out of the bay and headed for the exit. I had my head down and wasn’t paying attention completely.

“Ah, Alexis. Are you ok?” A man’s voice said.

I jumped out of my skin. I looked up to see the Alpha walking towards me, I quickly turned my gaze to the ground.

“Afternoon Alpha. Yes, I am ok thank you. I am so sorry I missed my chores.” I said rapidly.

“Oh Alexis. Don’t worry about it sweetheart. Are you sure you are ok.” He asked me.

“Yes sir, the nurse has just let me leave. I will go to my work experience now and collect my uniform.” I told him.

“What are your normal chores please Alexis?” He asked me.

“I normally help out in the kitchen sir.” I told him becoming a little nervous.

“Right. I don’t think you will be able to help out much with your wrist. However, you may be able to help more in the nursery. Come on. We will go together, and we will see what we can do.” He told me. He turned and began to walk towards the nursery. I stepped in line behind him and walked quietly.

It took about two minutes to get to the nursery. The Alpha walked through the door and then held the door open for me. I walked through and waited for him to lead me to the desk.

“Kim, hi how are you?” The alpha said.

“Ah, Alpha. Welcome. To what do I owe the pleasure of a visit?” She asked him smiling.

“Well, young Alexis here wanted to start her training and chose to try out the nursery. Unfortunately, she took a nasty fall on the way and broke her wrist. This means she is unable to work in the kitchen doing her chores.” He told her. I felt extremely uncomfortable and stood behind the Alpha. I hated the attention I was getting.

“I wondered if she might be able to help out here fully rather than going back to the kitchen. Especially while her wrist heals. If it all works out maybe full time?” He suggested. I was shocked at this suggestion but tried to remain calm.

“Well actually sir, we could use the extra help.” The woman said politely.

“Well, that settles that. Alexis you will be reporting to Kim here from now on. Once your wrist has healed, we can discuss how to move forward. Is that, ok?” He asked me, turning to face me.

I looked up a little but not looking at him directly.

“Yes sir. Thank you, sir.” I said quietly.

“Right, I will leave you in Kim’s capable hands then. Thank you Kim and I hope this works out.” He said before turning and walking away. I stood perfectly still not quite knowing what to do or say.

“Right then. Shall we show you around Alexis and find out what will be best for you to do. Then we can get you a uniform and sort out starting and finishing hours?” She asked me.

“Yes, please I replied. I was a little more confident now the alpha had left and looked up towards Kim.

She was possibly about 5ft4”. She was not extremely skinny, but her frame was thin. She looked to be in her 40s too. Her hair had a few grey strands but not overly grey. She looked as if she’d had a tough life.

She walked towards a set of double doors; she pushed them open together rather than one side only.

“Welcome to the nursery Alexis. This is the baby and toddler area.” She told me standing in the hallway looking through a window on the left side. We walked through a single door into the the actual room, it was rather large, one area was all lights and sensory things. I gathered that was mainly for the babies. That took approximately a third of the room in total. The rest of the room consisted of small tables, some book shelves and lots of foam type shapes with slides. They were all brightly coloured and scattered around the room in different areas. There was also a corner that consisted of cushions and blankets. There were a few bookshelves surrounding it, creating a cosy little area. The bookshelves were filled with lots of different books. The room looked amazing.

“Through that door is the kitchen area. We store and make snacks and meals in there, but the children are not allowed in.” She told me. “That door leads to the changing area. All the nappies and wipes are in there plus lots of spare clothes.” She told me pointing to another door along the back wall.

“Let’s go and see the next room, shall we?” Kim asked me.

“Yes, please mam.” I replied happily. We walked out the door and went through one that was opposite.

“This is the preschool room.” She said proudly. I looked around and could see some more foam like shapes, but they were bigger. There was two small wooden climbing frames and tables in a back corner. In the opposite corner was another cosy type of area with bookshelves surrounding it. There was only on door in this room unlike the toddler room.

“Right that door leads to a small kitchen and office. There is no need for a changing area in her really. They don’t leave the toddler room until they are using a potty completely. There are some toilets over there through that entrance there. I noticed the two signs inside the entrance. One was a male sign, and one was a female sign.

“This looks fantastic mam.” I said looking around.

“There’s one more room to show you. It’s the largest room and possibly where you will be, if you are up to it.” She told me. We walked out the room and down the main corridor. She pushed open the door and revealed a room the size of both the others.

“This is the after-school room.” She told me. I looked around the massive room in awe. I had never seen so much cool stuff. There were huge climbing frames down one wall. There were several tables in the back corner and next to that was a couple of sofas and a huge Tv. On the opposite side to the climbing frames were games tables. There was even a kitchenette in the corner to my right. In the center of the room was a large circle shaped bookcase filled with all kinds of books. In the center of this we’re several cosy chairs. It looked amazing.

“Have you never been in here yourself Alexis?” She asked me.

“No mam. I always spend my free time either in the library or my room. I like being alone.” I said without looking at her.

“Oh, that’s not good for anyone Alexis. You should try and socialise a bit. It’s good for the mind and always better to have friends.” She lectured me.

“But I like being alone.” I said turning to face her.

“Well, if you like being alone, why choose a job with children?” She asked me, looking directly at me.

“Because children don’t judge me.” I said point blank.

Kim just looked at me with a sad look on her face.

“I think I understand that, more than you know sweetheart. Right shall we go to my office, and we can talk your hours and get you a uniform sorted. I nodded my head and walked to the side of Kim. As we walked towards the door, it opened up. Lisa and her band of goons walked through the door, they were all laughing about something. I stopped dead in my tracks briefly. Then I lowered my head and walked behind Kim. I didn’t want to be seen by her at all. However, she spoke to Kim.

“Hello miss. Is there anything that needs doing today?” She asked in a sickly-sweet tone.

“Hi Lisa. Yes, can you and your friends straighten up the tv area and reading area please.” She told her. I realised that she was doing her work here. I became really nervous all of a sudden. That’s when Lisa noticed me. She shot daggers at me briefly before changing her composure.

“Oh, hi Alexis. How’s your wrist?” She asked with a grin.

“It’s ok now. Thank you.” I said politely.
