Avery

Our lunch session ended pretty quickly and now it was time for us to head back to our classes. Noah and I both parted ways as he had Geography class and I had Literature—I headed to my locker to grab my Literature textbook for class.
Heading to class I hugged my books close to my chest and walked briskly, I was a few minutes late but luckily not many students did Literature because it was boring.
"Avery wait up," the voice yelled.
The voice was all too familiar. Aaron.
Slowly turning around he stared daggers into my skull or rather at me. If looks could kill I'd drop down dead a million times.
He grabbed my arm and dragged me outside— "Look I don't got time for this I have class right now," I scold. His grip tighten even more as I pulled myself from him. "Seriously what the f**k is your problem dude," I said.
Aaron stopped in his tracks as he brought his face close to mine, the horrid smell of the sandwich breath in my face made me want to puke. "You good for nothing w***e of a self made your man embarass my girl," he spat.
"First of all hands off and he's not my damn man either," I yelled.
He rose his hand to hit me as I close my eyes waiting for the impact but it never came. "What do you think you're doing?" The voice boomed. Desmond held Aaron's hand and twist it causing a snapping sound. I tug at Desmond's leader jacket, "Enough both of you, just f*****g stop?!"
Desmond's eyes widen before his features went void— I couldn't tell what he was thinking nor did I want to know.
"Two men by your side huh, you did well Avery— what did you do, f**k the both of them?" This time instead of Desmond to hit Aaron, I did. I slapped him across the face as he gasp. "You're right I did f**k them and what are you gonna do about it hmm? I'm a nobody you s**t! So why care huh, you wanna f**k me too?" I taunt.
We stood in silence as I pant— too out of breath from saying such horrible things.
"s**t, s**t, I'm sorry I didn't mean those words," I held my books tighter as I ran from the scene.
"Avery where are you going?" Desmond called out.
"Leave me alone please," I muttered.

I stepped into the class as two other students were there already. Looking at the board, the teacher was covering a Shakespeare concept and discussing the ideas of his work. "Miss Baker, care to explain this concept?" I shook my head as he went to another student— I zoned out for the rest of the class. Class was over as I head to the library for detention. "Good day, I'm here for detention—Avery Baker," I spoke. "In the box over there, please place the books in alphabetical order," she said.
I nod and got to work— detention here was different from other schools, they made up clean, sweep or tidy things in detention as punishment. Walking towards the direction she said, there were two boxes of books.
Oh great, just what I needed! I began placing all the books from one box on the table, trying to place them in the order they were supposed to be. Three minutes pass, yet no one else showed up— the library was much quiet than the usual. A book caught my attention as I took it up and was reading the synopsis.
Bittersweet Tragedy, about a girl who had unfortunate disasters that happens in her life— the universe knew how to just shove things in your face as that book just described my whole life. I stopped reading when I heard a male's voice, footsteps then began to come my way. It was Noah, smiling at me brightly.
"What are you doing here?" I asked in amusement. He pulled out a chair and sat on it. "I'm waiting on you of course, do you need help?" He proceeded. I smiled widely at him, "Well aren't you gonna ask why I got detention?" He looked puzzled and I couldn't help but laugh at him.
"Never mind and sure, it doesn't look like the others are gonna show up anyway," I replied.
He got up and helped me place the books on the top shelf that I couldn't reach. He was so close to me, I could smell his musky perfume, it was alluring. Snap out of it Avery. My cheeks started to flush as Noah began to chuckle—I smacked him lightly for teasing me.
Detention was over in no time thanks to Noah for keeping me company, "Let's grab some food at Dash n Hall," he spoke.
"You mean the new restaurant down the road? I've been wanting to try their food," I replied. Noah outstretch his hand and I took it.

We were now sitting in Dash n Hall when a waitress came over to our table and took our order. I took a double cheese Whopper burger with some onion fries and a cappuccino while Noah took the same thing and starburst jelly drink.
"I'll pay for our meals Avery," Noah said.
"Um- hmm okay, thank you." I replied unsure of what to say. I slurp the drinks through the straw as I looked outside— Desmond was talking to a blonde hair girl and smiling widely at her. "Avery, you listening?" Noah said.
"Um no, sorry could you repeat?" I said sincerely.
"Right so are you free Saturday, there's a new movie out?" He asked. His eyes were like a cute puppy how could I resist this cutness, "Sure, let's go watch it."
"What are you two lovebirds doing here?" Desmond plump himself beside Noah before taking some fries from my plate.
"To eat of course," I rolled my eyes. Noah giggled and so do I. "So you gonna introduce me sunflower to your man?" Desmond asked. Noah stiffen at his words and I stopped drinking. "He's not my man, what do you want?" I replied.
"I wanna talk to you for a sec," he got up and I followed behind him, signaling Noah that I'll be back. We were now at the back of the building when he spoke, "Sunflower, I don't want you around him— he's new and too friendly." I notice how he emphasized the word friendly. "What makes you any different though, I mean sure you've been at Bostom for almost three years but I don't know you either," I conclude.
"This is different sunflower—" I raised my finger to his lips to stop him. "Listen thank you for being worried about me, but I'm good I can handle myself," I moved my hand as I went back to Noah.
"What was that creep bothering you about?" He asked.
"Nothing important, let's eat," as I munched on the yummy burger.
