The Wolfless Luna
"Dynasty" - MIIA
I walked down the aisle once again. This time not to marry the love of my life, but to hand over my title to her.
My own sister Kristina.
As I walk towards my fate, memories of the past year play in my head.
My marriage to the Alpha’s son, James, was arranged for strength and to produce strong Alpha children, as I was the Beta’s eldest daughter.
When they pulled me into the alpha's office and told me the news, I was ecstatic. As I had been in love with James for years now.
James had been distant, not wanting to be involved in the wedding planning.
So my mother had helped me with it all.
The wedding was beautiful, my dress of white and gold sparkled under the moon.
I stood there as Luna Mary, James' mother, sliced our hands and transferred her power to me.
I felt my power grow and looked up to see the whole pack bowing their heads to me.
I felt like everything was perfect.
We didn't mate on our wedding night. James had wanted to wait until I was officially 18 and had my first shift. Which was fine with me as my birthday was only a week away.
I had hoped to wake up that morning to the amazing pull of the mate bond. But I hadn't.
The first of many disappointments.
That night everyone gathered around to watch their Luna have her first shift.
But as the Moon rose to its peak nothing happened.
No sounds of bones cracking, no howls of pain.
Just anger and rage on James face. He looked at me with such disgust.
We never mated.
Here we are six months later, the world crashing down around me.
I reached the end of the aisle where they were all waiting for me.
My sister in the arms of my mate. His hand resting on her swollen stomach.
The proof of my many failures as Luna.
My whole body shakes as tears stream down my face, as I face the elder who will strip me of my life.
He looks at me with pity, and I remember our meeting just one week ago.
Flash back
The pack elders had paid a visit when news spread of my husband's infidelity. It's unusual for a mate to cheat. Even a chosen one. Promises are made to the moon goddess to love and to cherish each other, to promise faithfulness, to bind you as one.
James had told them my lack of shifting, caused him to be unfaithful. The pack needed strong future Alphas, which is something I couldn't provide as I didn't have a wolf.
The elders were disappointed. It then became a question of my lineage. As a Beta’s daughter, it is unheard of not to shift.
But as we learned that night, I'm the Beta's daughter, in name. But not in blood.
They had pulled my parents into the Alpha’s room. My mother was an emotional mess as she told the story of how I came to be their daughter.
My mother lost her first child during birth. The baby had come earlier than expected while my father had been away on official pack business.
Her heart had broken from the loss, with no mate around to comfort her. She went out into the woods that night to a cliff wanting to end the pain of losing her child.
She stood at the edge of that cliff sending a prayer to the moon goddess, when she heard a cry.
My cry.
She followed the sound until she came to a clearing, where she found me lying in a basket. She believed the moon goddess must have blessed her and brought me to her.
When my father returned, she took me to him. Introducing me as his own and why would he question her? His mate was no longer pregnant and an infant was in her hands.
My father didn't even look at me. He just stormed out of the room, the door slamming behind him.
The words James said to his father next were forever burned into my heart.
“I told you she was worthless”
My own husband. My chosen mate. Had never wanted me.
James then announced to the elders that Kristina was the mother of his unborn child and requested that I be stripped of my title and for Kristina to be made Luna.
The elders agreed.
End of Flashback
I turned around facing my pack as Luna for the last time.
Kristina stepped up to the side of me, as we turned to face each other.
The elder raised his blade and slashed both of our hands in one swipe.
Kristina grabbed my hand with a smirk on her face as the power left my body.
She turned to face the pack, I glanced over all of them. Those who once bowed to me, were now bowing to her.
I didn't think my life could be any worse until James spoke.
“I, James Bluemoon, Alpha of the Bluemoon pack, do hereby banish Arya Johnson from my pack. You are now and forevermore a Rogue. You have 24 hours to leave my pack lands”
