Elizabeth was emotionally drained after the trials which had lasted until almost 2:00 in the afternoon. The staff had prepared a light luncheon for the returning party but not one of them could do justice to the meal. The mood at the table had been very subdued; there had been no discussion of the morning’s activities.  Each had retired to a favorite place to unwind; Elizabeth had gone to the solarium. She was there with her thoughts when a page knocked at the door to tell her that the archbishop was asking for an urgent audience with her. She would have loved to tell him to just go away but that was not her style. She heaved a sigh and instructed the page to show the cleric to one of the small meeting rooms.    The archbishop was waiting anxiously … as soon as Elizabeth appeared at the
