Chapter 11 Settle Debts

770 Words
Gabriel's face turned pale as she spread her palms. The hard drive in her hand already wet with sweat. “I didn't come here today for an abortion or a transplant. I have evidence that Jasmine arranged for someone to gang-r**e me in the hotel that day. I also have proof that she was responsible for her sister's death.”   “Enough!” Caleb growled, interrupting her. “Jasmine is already sick. Do you want her to die just to satisfy yourself?” Caleb grabbed the hard drive and tossed it out of the window before she could stop him. “No!” Gabriel’s heart was bleeding when she saw her effort was nothing in his eyes. She turned around and was going to get back the hard drive downstairs.   “Where are you going?” Caleb grabbed her, “You are not allowed to leave here. Jasmine is waiting for your kidney.”   Gabriel looked up at him and suddenly burst out laughing.   How foolish she had been!   Even if Caleb believed her a little, he could easily find these videos with his resources. What was even more foolish was her belief that showing evidence would change his mind.   Presenting evidence to a man who was already blinded by hatred, a man whose heart was closed off, was nothing but foolishness.   Her laughter was filled with desperation, as if she had decided to give up something.   Her expression unsettled Caleb, as if he was about to lose her at any moment.   “Caleb, if I agree to do the abortion and kidney transplant, can we settle our debts?” Gabriel closed her eyes slowly. “, Caleb, I owe you nothing. Those things are all done by Jasmine.”   “You owe Isabella.” Yes, he didn’t believe Isabella's death was unrelated to her. And it shattered Gabriel’s heart. “Fine, I agreed to the abortion and transplant not because I owe you anything. This might be the last thing I can do for you.”   The word "last" pierced Caleb's ears, but he couldn't focus on why his heart ached so much. The fact that she carried another man's child was all he could think about. This thought was enough to make him lose his mind.   “You don't owe me? You will never be able to repay what you owe me in this lifetime!”   “Yes, I loved you. Maybe that's what I owed you from my past life. But, Caleb Williams, I don't love you anymore. For the sake of me letting you go, can you do one last thing for me?”   “Let me go?” Caleb's eyes narrowed and his heart unsettled.   “Yes! I want to let you go.” She smiled sadly. "So, I want a divorce before going into the operating room.”   "No way.” The word “divorce” made Caleb's temples throb violently, making him feel dizzy and in pain. “Do you think you can leave me and be with Dominic? Don't even think about it!”   He would never let her go so easily. He said that she deserved to live alone in the hell. Gabriel looked at him hopelessly, her shoulders slumping. The she reached out to the operating tray beside her and picked up a scalpel. She was pressing it against her kidney.   “What do you think you're doing?” Caleb reached out to take the knife from her hand, but he watched as the blade pierced slightly, causing a small trickle of blood.   “Prepare the divorce agreement and certificate. Otherwise, if the knife goes any further and damages the kidney, Jasmine will die. Do you want me to die with her?”   “Put down the knife! I'll sign it!”   Caleb didn't want to see her hurt herself. He was surprised by his own feelings.   He thought that even if he signed the divorce agreement, he could still have her sign a marriage certificate later. She wasn't getting away from him that easily.   But why didn't he want her to leave him?   He didn't have an answer. He just knew that he couldn't let the child in her womb live if it wasn't his. He wanted to make sure that no one else could have her.   Gabriel breathed a sigh of relief. Jasmine was indeed his weakness. How ironic.   In the end, the divorce had to be done this way.   Finally, the divorce agreement was signed.   Gabriel lay on the operating table. The bright light of the operating lamp shone into her eyes, but she stubbornly stared back.
