She reminisced about the year they first met, when the winter was cold.
The snow was falling heavily, and she found herself lost while skiing with her friends. The snowflakes stung her eyes, and she was unable to see anything. She stood there, waiting for someone to help her out.
That's when he appeared. His first word was, “Your eyes are hurt by the snow. Let me take you out.”
He led her to the aid station, and there she saw him again.
He was handsome and unmatched in his qualities.
At the time, she was eighteen, and he was twenty-three.
His name was Caleb Williams.
Now, in the operating room, the sound of footsteps brought Gabriel back to the present. She turned her head to see Jasmine and a few men in white coats behind her. Those were the man who had attempted to r**e her that night.
Attempting to sit up, Gabriel realized she couldn't move. The nurse had given her some medicine.
“Jasmine! You let me go.”
As Gabriel noticed that there were no nurses in the room, her anxiety grew.
Jasmine took pleasure in the game. “Even if you find evidence against me, what will be changed?” she taunted. “Even now, Caleb doesn't believe you. I feel sorry for you, Gabriel.”
It seemed she had overheard Gabriel's conversation with Caleb in the corridor.
“What do you want this time?” Gabriel asked.
“I wanted to help you abort your child. You know too much. I have no choice but to make you unable to talk. Only dead people can't talk.”
“You won't get away with it even if you kill me.”
“You’re too kind. Thanks for reminding me. Don't worry, I won't harm you here. Before you're silenced forever, let me tell you a secret. The hospital found a kidney match a few days ago. I've already done the transplant operation in advance.”
Gabriel fell silent.
“Aren't you happy? The doctors are going to perform an abortion on you today, not a transplant. Dominic won't be able to help you.” Jasmine gloated.
“You wicked woman! You deserve to die!”
“I warned you that you couldn't defeat me. I gave you a chance to divorce Caleb, but you bit back. Now you can only blame yourself.”
“I already divorced Caleb, and I won't reveal your secrets.”
“Really? You may be clever, but it's too late. I no longer believe you.”
“What are you going to do?” Gabriel watched Jasmine approach her with a terrifying look.
“I'll have some fun with you.”
Outside the operating room, Caleb sat anxiously on a bench, holding a cigarette. He ignored the nurse's reminder to go to the smoking area.
He was restless, and the only way to feel better is smoking. He couldn’t convince himself to leave here. For the first time in his almost three decades of life, he felt fear.
He couldn't bear to leave even for a few minutes, terrified that he might never see her again.
The cigarette burned down to his fingers. He stood up to toss it into the trash can,
But he was stopped by Dominic, who grabbed his collar and lifted him up.
“Caleb, where is Gabriel? Where is she?” Dominic shook Caleb. “Did you force her into the operating room?”
Caleb looked at Dominic like a lunatic. “Why do you care? What right do you have to worry about my wife?”
“You bastard!” Dominic swung a punch at Caleb's face.
Caleb wiped the blood from his mouth and asked, “Who said that you can hit me?”
He punched back, and Dominic was thrown against the wall.
“What? Does it hurt that you might lose your child?”
