Chapter 5

The Fire and the Ice

It's 9 in the evening and all of them are sleeping, while me I can't sleep. Charles is sleeping on my bed and the others are sleeping to theirs. There are five beds inside and two players are sharing on one bed.

I took a deep breath and still thinking about what is happening. I am missing for 1 year? How did that happened? It felt like i everything happened yesterday where I met the person who wanted me, and ended up being here and knowing that i missed a 1 year event? I stand and went outside. The fresh air meet my body. I really missed the fresh air. I walk towards the Well because that's where we get the water if we're thirsty.

I look down when i felt that the Well is shaking. "What the hell?" I whisper. I was shock when the water boil like there's some fire under it, until I realize what is happening. Suddenly  I saw the grass turning into black. It's starting.

"IT'S STARTING!!" I scream. "The grass is turning black!! It's starting!!" I scream again. The lights from each rooms turn on and the people went out. "We need to spread out and find the door! We need to act as a team!" A girl said while running. "Jack!" I look back and saw Charles is running towards me.     " Are you okay?" He ask. "Im fine Charles. Come on we need to find the door before we become a roasted human." I said and laugh. He agreed and help the players find the door. Every door we see, we open, but nothing magical. I look at the darkest place in here. Maybe the door is in there. "Jack no!!" Someone scream and I was shock when the ground slowly turned into a fire.

Oh s**t.

I start running and the other people too. No one see the door. No one.

I saw the Well so I run maybe it could help to stop the fire using the water here. When i approach the Well i get the bucket and fill with a water. I throw the water at the fire but instead of the fire to stop growing, it spread more.

"Jack what have you done?!" Another player said. Now they are all panicking. "Don't panick guys! We can still find the door!" I said. "Panick? Because of you the fire spread like hell! Now we don't have a choice but to wait until we burn alive." The player said.

I didn't know that it's gonna happen if I throw a water in the fire. Like water is the only thing that can defeat a fire, not the water help the fire to spread more. I walk backwards when the fire starting to spread in front of me.

Oh s**t.

"Jack!" I heard Charles scream my name before I fall down in the Well. It took one second before I went under the water. It's really dark and the only light is from the fire. I open my eyes under the water when I touch a circular metal thing down here. I look down and saw a red door. I swim under to reach the doorknob and when I did I twist it and i was shock when all of the water from the Well goes down.  It was like upside down. Like I am inside of a water bottle that has been upside down for a long time and when you open the bottle cup all of the water was poured out.

That is what happening to me right now. All of the water from the Well poured out. I hold tight on the doorknob because I don't want to let go until I didn't tell to my rivals that I found the door. But the thing is, I am hanging. I look down and I saw a water, that's we're all gonna fall.

"The door is in the Well!! Jump!!" I scream even it's hard to. I saw the faces of the other players looking down and one of them is Charles. When one of the players jump, I let go.

After a second I felt the cold water punch my body after I fall. It's really cold, like it was made from ice. To be honest, I'm not a swimmer, but I just learned how to swim because Maxine teach me how. I look around and saw an ice where a door was placed. Everyone swim to go there so I follow them.

"Jack! Help! I can't swim!" I look back and saw Charles. For god sake?! He didn't know how to swim? Is he a child or something? But I don't have choice, so i swim back to help him. I grab his arm and someone grab his other arm. "Nadia?" I speak her name. "We don't need to talk, just help him!" She said.

When we approach the ice place the other players help him and Nadia help me out of the water.

"100 to 96 players. Wow. Huge number to lost." We all stop talking when the invisible announcer talk. "The next challenge is to find the key that will open the door. Good luck. Clue, It's under the water."

"Now what? How are we gonna find the key?" Nadia ask. "To swim under?" One player suggest. "I think that's the stupidest idea that i've heard Ben." Nadia burst him. "What if we spread out and find anything to help us find the key?" Another player suggest. That's the boy who I think hate me. He is the person said that I'm stupid for throwing the water from the fire. "That's a good idea Daniel." A girl approach him. "Thank you Allyssa." The man or lets say Daniel, said.

I look to Charles and walk towards him. Charles is hugging himself. Well, because it's really cold. By the way, it's not night anymore here to the third challenge. "Hey you okay?" I ask him. He look at me and smile. "Thank you. Maybe if you didn't help me, i might be frozen now." He said. I unwear the vest and gave it to him. "Thank you again Jack."

I just smiled. I think it's not that hard to be friends with someone new. He is friendly and concerned about almost anything.

"Hey you!" I look back and saw Daniel walking towards me. When he approach me, he punch my face. "What the hell?" I said. "Your trying to be independent aren't you? You find the door but you didn't tell us! Why? Because you want to win the game?" He said. He get the attention of the others. " I don't want to be selfish here! I scream that i found the door. That's why the other look down at the Well!" I said. " We didn't hear your scream! So your lying!" He said and shove me. "What the hell is wrong with you?! You are the selfish one here! You're acting like you are the boss! Eventhough your not!" I said. He pulled my shirt to him. "I don't care if you are a Brenner! Because your just like your Father at all!" He said.

From that moment, everything stop, i heard him saying I'm just like my father, so does he know who my father is? "Hey both of you sto--" Someone stop up but he didn't  finished his sentence when his head explode after we heard a gunshot.

"Aaahhh!!" The other players scream because their terrified on what they saw. The blood from his head splattered everywhere, but some of the blood splattered to me and Daniel. His non-breathing body fall on the ice. What the hell happened?

"Did you use your power?" Charles ask me. "It was a gunshot, a gun killed him."  Im not a killer, and I'll never be one.

"Believe me Charles." I whisper while my voice is shaking. "I believe you Jack, we all heard a gunshot. So it wasn't you." He said. "Do they know about my ability?" I ask him. "Yes we all are." Oh s**t. How did they knew about that?

"Because you're all over the news Jack. You are." He whispered at my ear. "What?" I ask him. All over the news? What does that supposed to mean?  Why? What happened to me before i woke up in here. What i  missed, and what i've done.
