Chapter001
CHAPTER 000 ELIZA'S POINT OF VIEW I walked behind him into his office, deliberately but not too carefully. He entered first, then turned, his eyes sharp as he looked at me. He gestured for me to come in without a word. I stepped inside with confidence—like someone who was about to claim a well-deserved reward—and smirked. Perhaps I felt that way because I knew he wouldn't be foolish enough to do anything drastic to me. The Alpha of the Halbmond Club was strict and feared by all those under his rule. No one in the pack dared to disobey him. Only I defied him. He had a name for using the threat of quick and merciless punishment to control the men. But he was different with me. I could see it; he tried to hide it. I challenged him, defied him, and he let me. The others wouldn’t even think of testing him the way I did. He always let me go no matter how he punished me. And his punishments? I’ll just say that my body wanted them more than I wanted to admit. The door clicked behind me. His gaze burned through me, and Lukas took a step closer. "What?" I rolled my eyes. Before I could even blink, my back was against the cold wall, his body pressed against mine. He whispered into my ear, his breath hot, 'Eliza, I won’t let you drive me insane.' Or stop pushing me; I swear I’ll be the one to end this." He squeezed my throat, hard but not too hard. I should have been gasping for breath, begging for my life in any other situation. But I knew him. He wasn’t going to hurt me. Not really. His hand slowly moved from my throat to my chin, tilting my face up so our eyes met. I could feel my breath coming faster, my chest going up and down at his side. For a second, I saw it. Desire. Something raw in his eyes flickered. Then, in an instant, it vanished. He released me and made his way to his desk, his usual place of authority. I smirked. "What’s the matter, Lukas? Afraid to have me?" His eyes flicked up from his desk and the papers sitting on top, cold and unreadable. He stood and strode toward me without a word. Doubt began creeping into my mind for the first time. Was I pushing him too far? But I held my ground. He unlocked the door instead, passing me without stopping. "Tomorrow is my birthday. He said in a loud voice, "I am turning eighteen." "I don’t have time for childish games." Unexpectedly, my heart clenched. "Out. He added, in his final tone, 'I have more important things to handle than playing with you.' It shouldn't have bothered me. It really shouldn’t have. But it did. I huffed and stomped past him out the door, the heavy metal door slamming shut behind me. Jonas was outside, sitting there against the wall, waiting. His smirk made me even more irritated. "Rough night?" He winked as I stormed past, teasing. Sophie and he were the only ones who knew what really went on between me and Lukas. I tore into the woods, shifting into my wolf as I tore home. The cool night air did not cool my temper. I shifted back into my human form and flopped onto my bed, climbing through my window. Doesn’t he have time for childish games? "He thinks I’m a child?" I muttered angrily. Bella, my inner wolf, sighed. "You did provoke him first. 'You shouldn't have taunted him like that,' maybe." "I was joking! I crossed my arms and argued, 'He's the one who acts like he has something to prove.' Or maybe he’s just thinking about his mate." He’s turning eighteen, Eliza. Bella suggested maybe he wanted to wait for her. "Wait? For what? You think he’s an innocent, untouched Alpha? I scoffed, 'He's been with plenty of girls.' "Maybe. "Or maybe not," Bella mused. "Are we going to his birthday party tomorrow, either way?" I smirked. "Of course. I responded with, "The Halbmond Club is where it's at; I wouldn't miss it for anything." Bella hesitated. "Aren’t you worried? You’ll lose him completely if he finds his mate. Mates are everything. After that, he won’t even look at you." I hadn’t thought about that. Would he really forget about me so easily? "Maybe," I admitted. "Or maybe I should pray he never finds her." Bella chuckled. "You’re impossible." I turned to see a knock at my window. Sophie. "I saw you run back here. She handed me two boxes. 'I got our dresses.' I let her climb in after me, and I took them. I pulled the two dresses out of the boxes and opened them. "That purple and black one is yours." She said, 'The pink one's mine.' I slipped the dress on, holding it up. It fit my body perfectly with the fabric. Short. Tight. Revealing. Bella grinned. "He won’t be able to take his eyes off you, Lukas." I smirked at the thought. She studied me and sighed. 'It looks amazing on you, Eliza,' I said. But will it matter? 'Once he finds his mate, he might not even notice you.'" I turned to her, grinning. "I doubt that." Her lips twitched. "Don’t you have a plan?" "Always." She coughed and gave me a knowing look. "You like him, don’t you?" I rolled my eyes. "I just… I’m physically attracted to him." Bella snorted. "Yeah, keep telling yourself that," he said. Sophie raised an eyebrow. "Then why try so hard? Why bother trying to distract him when you know he’s supposed to find his mate? That sounds like jealousy." I scoffed. "You don’t know what you’re talking about." "I do. You love him. Perhaps you should begin being honest with yourself." My jaw tightened. "He said I was nothing to him today." Sophie crossed her arms. And yet, here you are, dressed to the nines for his birthday."Why does it bother you so much if you don’t care?" "It doesn’t!" I snapped. She tilted her head. "So what are you feeling right now?" I parted my lips. But I had no answer. What was I feeling? The story will continue...
