My eyes cracked open slowly. Shivering, a strange sensation crawled over my skin. Someone was in my room.
I felt nauseous.
"Eliza." The cold and firm voice cut through the silence. It kept repeating my name until I knew it.
Jonas.
I slowly sat up, vision still recovering from darkness. His shadow was barely visible.
"Why are you in my room?" I scratched my back, my voice groggy.
"The patrol team is joining this morning." Get ready immediately. Then, head to the Pack House. The Alpha has asked for you. Do not waste his time." His tone was flat and emotionless.
I tried to process his words. I blinked. "Huh? I have to get ready for school, however. I'll never get there at that time!"
"That’s your problem, Eliza. "Do not disobey the Alpha." He didn’t linger. His shadow disappeared into the night, and I was alone once more.
I flopped back onto my bed.
I still wanted to sleep. My stomach was unsettled, my body heavy.
I closed my eyes and tried to fall asleep again.
"Eliza! Is it that you are not going to school today?"
I snapped awake to my mother’s voice echoing inside my head.
My heart pounded, and I shot up when I saw the sunlight penetrating my room.
"Oh no! "Oh no!" I cursed and scrambled out of bed and raced into the bathroom. Dizziness washed over me and my legs wobbled, so I gripped the sink for support.
I pulled my toothbrush from my clasp and squeezed some toothpaste into it before shoving it into my mouth. The second the bristles touched my tongue, I was violently nauseous.
I barely made it in time.
I bent over the sink, spitting out the foam as my stomach twisted painfully. My head throbbed. I remembered last night, vomiting, Alpha Lukas carrying me to his car, his unreadable expression as he let me empty my stomach.
Then, another realization hit me.
"Oh no! The patrol!" Panic surged through me. "I completely forgot!"
He was going to punish me. There was no way around it. Whatever punishment he had in store for me, missing patrol duty had probably doubled it.
Almost, a part of me looked forward to it.
Rinsing my mouth, I smirked at the thought and stepped into the shower.
The water was lukewarm and cleared the grogginess, but not the unease that was screwing up my stomach. I let the droplets soothe my tense muscles and took my time before stepping out and grabbing a towel.
I wrapped it around myself and walked back to my room, where I rummaged through my closet for something to wear.
Then came the knocking.
Loud. Urgent.
My heart raced to my throat, causing me to freeze.
I listened, following my mother’s footsteps as she came to the door.
Sophie? She would already be at school, no?
A voice then sent my blood running cold.
Lukas.
My eyes widened. I wanted to run; my instincts screamed at me.
I grabbed the first clothes I could find, threw them on, and ran toward the window without a second thought.
I jumped.
I hit the ground and took off into the woods. I sped up, pushing myself harder as branches smacked against my arms.
But it was useless.
I could feel him.
He was behind me.
Fast.
Too fast.
I debated whether to shift and forced my legs to move faster. However, I had barely managed to decide before an iron grip grasped my wrist and pulled me back, violently so.
My back slammed against the cold, hard ground, and I gasped. Pain shot up my spine.
A shadow loomed over me.
His chest rose and fell heavily; Lukas stood tall. His jaw was clenched, and his eyes lit with barely restrained fury.
I swallowed hard and gave him a nervous smile.
His wolf was close. I could feel it clawing under his skin.
Lukas never let his control slip. But now? He was on the edge, dangerously so.
A deep growl from his chest resonated with her.
I held my breath.
Suddenly, he reached down and picked me up as if I were nothing. He spun me around, all the while holding me against my back and pinning me against the tree of my choice with his strong hands, caging me in.
"How many times, Eliza?" His voice was low, and there was a warning in it.
"I… I’m sorry. Never would I—I just slept too late!" My voice didn't sound particularly strong either. His eyes flickered with something unreadable, trailing to my neck and lingering there.
He exhaled and released me, the pressure on my throat tightening slightly.
He grabbed my wrist again and began dragging me back into the forest.
"Where are we going? "I need to get to school! "I’m already late!" I tried to protest, but I struggled to get away from his hold.
His grip only tightened. He was still furious.
"Lukas, please! Just let me go! I'll come back later,' I promise.'"
Desperately, I twisted my arm to bite him.
Bad idea.
The moment my teeth nearly grazed his skin, his eyes darkened.
"Eliza," he snapped.
I froze.
"I do not want to make myself even more furious."
I knew I had pushed him far enough, so I pressed my lips together.
We got to the front door of my house. Her face was pale, her hands trembling, and she stood just inside.
She dropped to her knees immediately.
"Alpha, please forgive her. I apologize on her behalf. "She is disobedient, and I beg you to punish her not too unkindly."
Lukas didn’t even look at her.
"Go pack her things. However, she is coming to live in the Pack House."
Silence fell.
My breath hitched. "What?"
His unexpressive face turned to me. "From today, you will live at the Pack House."
"But I’m not a Luna! I am not a Beta, not an Omega! Why would I—"
"What you are, then, is an Omega." His smirk was cold and unforgiving.
I heard my mother sobbing as she rushed into my room.
My stomach clenched.
What had I done?
Regret clawed at me for the first time. I could hear my mother’s cries in my ears, and I felt like the worst daughter alive.
Lukas stared at me, his gaze unreadable.
I looked down at the floor.
I wouldn’t beg.
I would not kneel before him, even if I had to suffer.
A few minutes later, my mother came out, pulling two suitcases behind her.
Lukas turned abruptly and made his way towards his car. He wasn’t holding me anymore.
I turned to my mother, and a single tear slipped down my cheek.
"I’m sorry," I whispered. But I never meant to disappoint you.
She didn’t answer, just wiped her eyes as she handed me my bags.
I took them and followed Lukas out.
The door of the car was already open.
I threw my luggage into the trunk and looked back at my mother one last time before getting in.
There was a roar, and the engine started up, and we pulled away.
I pressed my lips together to stop the tears that threatened to fall and folded my arms.
I wouldn’t cry.
I wouldn’t let him have the satisfaction.
He would have to try harder if he wanted me to break.
"You brought your things already?" As soon as we arrived at the Pack House, Jonas approached.
I grabbed my bags and ignored him.
"Are you really that upset? Any she-wolf would be happy to live here."
I scoffed. He had no idea.
"Where’s my room?" I asked flatly.
Jonas crossed his arms. "You should probably ask him. We didn't plan this.
I dragged my suitcases inside.
With a thud, I dropped my bags and stopped in front of Lukas's office.
I took a deep breath and pushed open the door.
A cigarette was between his lips as he sat on a single-seater sofa. His gaze landed on me, smoke curling around his face.
He patted the seat beside him. "Sit."
I hesitated. I felt a chill down my spine due to the way he said it.
I stepped forward and sat.
Lukas took a drag and exhaled slowly. Then, he looked at me.
"Eliza, you’re not here to be my Omega. "That was just a lie to your mother," he said.
I caught my breath in my throat.
"Then why am I here?"
His eyes darkened.
"Because you’re going to be my Luna," he assured the innocent girl.
My entire body froze.
What?!
