I was standing at the corner outside, trying to calm myself down. The air was cool at night, but it didn’t help to calm the frustration that was boiling inside me. I couldn’t help but think about the fact that the Moon Goddess had chosen Eliza as my mate. She was a stubborn and impossible woman.
His usual smirk in place, Jonas approached. He extended a cigarette toward me without a word.
He handed me the already lit stick; I put it between my lips and inhaled deeply. I exhaled slowly, filling my lungs with the smoke before it drifted into the air. I felt my nerves start to settle almost immediately.
'You should not be such a hasty judge of the Moon Goddess,' Jonas told me as he leaned against the wall beside me. She knows what she's doing. However, you must choose Eliza, who is the best choice for you."
I scoffed, shaking my head. "How? How is she the best choice for me?
Jonas chuckled. "Think about it." Even if she wasn't your mate, you would still have found her attractive. If your mate had been someone else, that would have been a problem. Either way, you would’ve had feelings for Eliza."
"That wouldn't happen," I argued. "I would forget about Eliza once I found my real mate."
Jonas gave me a knowing look. "Right. You have such outstanding self-control when it comes to her."
I frowned. "You're annoying."
I always tell you that. Perhaps I should embrace this and use it as a nickname. "By the same token, half the pack calls your Luna stubborn." He grinned.
I took another drag from my cigarette and rolled my eyes.
Jonas suddenly straightened. "Oh, look. Here she comes. She is our beloved Luna. Our fearless, stubborn—"
I glared at him, and he shut up immediately.
We saw Eliza some distance from us, walking toward us slightly unsteadily. Her scent washed over me as she got closer, and my whole body tensed. My inner wolf moved, desperate and eager. It was as if I wanted to snatch her, throw her over my shoulder, take her somewhere private, and brand her. But I held myself back.
She wasn’t ready. I wasn’t sure if I was ready. Should I wait? Give her time? Should I just take her now and be done with it?
She put her hands on my chest and rested her head there for a moment. I was watching her carefully, not knowing what she was doing.
Suddenly, she pinched my nose.
I half yelled, jerking back, 'Eliza, stop.'
She stared at me, paused, then did it again.
That was it. I was worn out of her being cute—no, I didn’t just think she was cute. No. This was in no way cute.
I grabbed her wrist, spun her around, and pinned her against the wall.
Jonas coughed behind us, clearly amused, and took a few steps away to give us room.
Hazy eyes looked up at me from Eliza. "Do you plan to kiss me or carry on staring?" She slurred her words.
I sighed. She was drunk. She was not just tipsy—she was completely wasted.
Who the hell let her drink Lycan liquor?
She slumped forward, unconscious, and I caught her. I picked her up without hesitation and walked toward my car.
Jonas followed, shaking his head. "Well, that was dramatic."
I said, my voice cold, "Find out who gave her the Lycan drink." "And fire them."
Jonas nodded. "Got it."
"That will also let her friends know I'm taking her home."
"Yes, Alpha."
I put Eliza in the backseat, her head on my lap. She started mumbling nonsense in her sleep as the driver pulled onto the road.
He gave a sharp, longing cry into the night. "Mmm...cute Lukas... my handsome Alpha... did you know you’re cute?" She giggled softly.
Jonas snorted, trying to keep from laughing.
I scowled but said nothing.
Suddenly, Eliza wrapped her arms around my waist and pressed her face against my stomach. My whole body went rigid.
Damn it. She was destined to be my downfall.
She held on to me for several minutes, silent except for her slow breathing. Without warning, she sat up and began tapping the car door, fumbling with the handle.
Just in time, I realized what was happening. "Stop the car!"
I opened the door just as Eliza bolted outside, and the driver braked immediately. She doubled over and vomited, barely making it a few steps.
I sighed and ran a hand down my face.
She hunched over for a while, arms wrapped around her stomach. I called for her, but she didn’t move.
I stepped out, walked over, and pulled her to her feet. She was about to jump back into the car.
She stubbornly shook her head.
"Eliza."
She swayed slightly, barely conscious.
I sighed and picked her up in my arms, taking her back to the car.
The rest of the ride was quiet. We arrived at her parents' house fifteen minutes later. I motioned for Jonas to bring her inside.
He took her from my arms carefully and disappeared into the house. He let out a deep breath when he returned.
"Your Luna is quite a stubborn brat," Jonas muttered.
I turned on him instantly. "I don't understand why I called her a brat."
Jonas held up his hands. "Fine, fine. My mistake. Of course, she is the future wife of our wonderful Alpha."
I climbed into the car and ignored him.
The drive back to the Pack House was short. I went straight to my room when we arrived.
But as soon as I got out of the car, I stepped in, stripped down, and sank into the tub, enjoying the warm water that relaxed my tension.
But my mind was not calm.
Eliza. It had all been about Eliza today.
Georg's inner wolf was agitated.
"Lukas, I was being unfair to you," he growled. He refused to let us claim our mate.
"She wasn’t ready," I answered.
But we are.
It’s not about us, Georg.
You can keep telling yourself that, but you know the truth. We want her. You want her.
I closed my eyes. Be patient, Georg. Just wait.
He sighed in frustration but didn’t argue.
Nearly an hour later, I stepped out of the water, dried off, and threw on my night clothes.
The moment I lay down, my mind went back to Eliza.
I took a sharp breath and opened the mind link.
Jonas.
Yes, Alpha?
Wake Eliza up early. She’s serving her punishment tomorrow.
Understood.
She goes straight to the Pack House after patrol. No delays.
Got it.
I cut the link and looked at the ceiling.
It will be an intriguing tomorrow.
Would she finally be able to accept that we were?
Would she persevere until the very end?
