Chapter003

Finally, Sophie and I were ready for Alpha Lukas’s birthday party. I was so excited that I drenched myself in perfume. “Enough, Eliza! Sophie snatched the bottle from my hand and sprayed a bit on herself. ‘You’ve already sprayed way too much.’ I didn’t argue, but I rolled my eyes. We walked out to her car, the one her dad had given her for her eighteenth birthday a few months back. Sophie started the engine, and soon we were at Halbmond Club. We walked in, and the bouncer barely acknowledged us, which wasn’t surprising; everyone knew why we were here. As soon as we entered, the heavy bass of the music shook through my chest. Wolves filled the club; their bodies moved as one with the music. There was liquor, sweat, and excitement in the air. The screaming beat drowned out Sophie's words, "Alpha Lukas isn't here yet." I shrugged. “I’m going to need a drink before I go hunting for a dance partner.” I left her behind and went to the bar, sliding onto one of the stools. The bartender nodded politely at me. “What’ll it be, miss?” “Vodka. The strongest you’ve got.” He hesitated. “Are you sure?” I arched my brow. “Do I look unsure?” He pulled out a bottle, tipped a generous amount into a glass, set it down in front of me, and did it with a small smirk. I gulped and felt the burn slide down my throat. Unsatisfied, I proceeded to pour more and continued until I consumed the entire bottle. I could feel a slight warmth spreading through me, but the alcohol barely had an effect. Being a werewolf had its downsides; human liquor was practically useless. I looked around the crowd for Sophie, but she wasn’t there. Figures. She was probably already a distraction. I abandoned my seat to feel the music calling to me and found my way to the dance floor. As soon as I entered the sea of shifting bodies, I allowed myself to resonate with the beat, my hips swaying, my head lost to their music. Soon enough, I felt strong hands grip my waist from behind. A familiar scent hit my nose— a male werewolf, strong, dominant. I knew he was attractive without even turning. I rolled my hips teasingly, pressing back against him. He squeezed my hand longer, my body against his, his arousal evident. I smirked to myself. It didn't take much for a guy to become excited. I felt a deep chuckle tickle my ear. His breath felt warm against my skin as he murmured, "You're dangerous." I giggled but didn’t reply. My body did the talking; it moved in perfect sync with his. I was just starting to enjoy myself when he suddenly pulled away. Before he disappeared into the crowd, he whispered, ‘I’ll be back.’ I turned, looking around the room for him, but he was already gone. I sighed a little disappointed and kept dancing until a firm hand tapped my shoulder. I turned around to see Friedrich, my brother’s best friend, looking at me with a disapproving look. He growled low; his jaw was tight. I continued dancing and ignored him. “Eliza, stop,” he warned again. I finally halted, frowning. At that moment, I became aware of a problem. The music had ceased, and the crowd was silent. I looked where everyone was looking, and my stomach flipped when I saw him. At the entrance, Alpha Lukas stood, his eyes piercing me. My heart pounded. Did this guy see me dancing with him? Was he angry? I smiled and walked towards him. “Hey, Alpha! You've finally reached your destination, huh? We're just beginning the celebration. I winked. Lukas didn’t say a word. He clenched his jaw and turned on his heel and left. My stomach twisted as I stared after him. “Why is he acting like that? "I greeted him, didn’t I?” I muttered. Sophie spoke behind me. “You should be careful, Eliza.” Friedrich added: “She just disrespected him.” “She’s too reckless.” “Oh, whatever.” I rolled my eyes and walked past them, straight back to the bar. “Give me something strong. Werewolf strength.” The bartender hesitated. “That’s not a good idea.” I narrowed my eyes. “Do I look like I care?” He hesitated for a moment, then sighed and grabbed a black bottle. “This one’s strong. Even Lycans struggle with it.” “Perfect.” I grabbed the bottle and gulped it down in one go. It burned all the way down my spine. I slammed the empty bottle onto the counter with a smirk, and the bartender gawked at me. I welcomed the spinning of the room slightly. Perhaps now I will forget how Lukas looked at me. I felt my head spinning; I stumbled outside for some air. I saw Jonas standing by the corner, deep in conversation. He’ll do. I smiled at myself and moved over. As I got closer, I realized he wasn’t alone. A cigarette lazily dangled from Lukas' fingers. I giggled. “Oh, look who it is!” His expression was unreadable as he turned his head towards me. I slurred my voice a bit and announced, “I have a question.” Lukas flicked his cigarette away and exhaled a cloud of smoke. “I’m listening.” I stepped closer and placed my hands on his chest. “But first—happy birthday, Alpha.” His body tensed under my touch, but he didn’t push me away. I grinned and reached up toward his nose. “Let me pinch it.” “Don’t.” His voice was low, warning. I giggled. “Why not?” I ignored his glare and stretched onto my toes to pinch the tip of his nose anyway. His entire body stiffened. He muttered, ‘You’re impossible,’ before turning me around and pushing me against the wall. Jonas coughed, knowingly, and quickly excused himself. Lukas’s gaze burnt into me. “Why?” “Why what?” I blinked up at him, my lips curling. His eyes darkened. "Why was the Moon Goddess so stupid as to choose a stubborn brat like you to be my luna?" I froze. Luna? I let out a laugh. “What are you talking about?” Lukas dropped his cigarette to the ground and crushed it under his boot. His face inches from mine, he pushed me further against the wall. His voice was rough as he said, “You’re mine.” My mind raced, uncertain if it was due to alcohol or his proximity. He added softly, ‘You’re drunk.’. I pouted. “So what? Kiss me, Alpha.” He flicked his gaze to my lips, then back to my eyes. “You’re drunk,” he repeated. “I looked at you like you wanted me.” I poked his chest. That’s why I drank. It’s your fault.” His jaw clenched. “Because of me?” “Yes.” I saw his hand reaching to catch me before my vision blacked out. Why did the Moon Goddess choose me? What did Lukas have in store?
