Where is she? Subaru counted, he took no more than five seconds to collect a few toys for the baby girl to hold her attention, yet when he comes back the blanket is empty. The youngest vampire feels a mixed emotion of worry and anger rise considerably. He clenches his fist so tight not realizing that the toy in his hand has disintegrated into nothing more than dust. He will find the person responsible, and make them regret ever taking the child away from him. First, he needs to tell Yui, even though it would worry her, she is still the main guardian of the infant.
He quickly rushes back to her room to wake and inform the high school girl, only that she wasn’t there. What the hell? Don’t tell him she disappeared as well? She was just here! Subaru resists the urge to punch something. He quickly goes to find Laito, maybe he had them? Either way, Subaru needs to figure out what the hell is going on.
…
Only a moment after Subaru left Ema, the third son appears and took this as his chance to act. He grabbed the child in his arms and disappears just as quickly as he came. After dropping the child off at an separate location, everything was set. He quickly enters Yui’s room, knowing he is running out of limited time. He lifted her up, careful not to wake her, and left as soon as Subaru reappears.
…
Yui slept peacefully, unaware of what’s going on around her, until she felt her body get drenched in ice cold water. The shock from the sudden change in temperature effectively woke her up. What the hell? Who would do that? Scratch that, almost everyone in the manor would do just that. Shuu would be the only one she could rule out due to him believing that it would be too troublesome. Anyway, Yui wipes her face, trying to rub her eyes so that she could see properly. When she made her gem like eyes known to the world she looked up and saw smoldering emerald and a mischievous smirk.
“You awake now, Pancake?”
“Ayato-Kun! Where am I?” Yui asks, the memories of the events prior flooding her mind. The experience of being sucked dry made her blood run cold, not wanting to experience the horrific feeling again. She looks to her surroundings. She is in the woods located behind the manor. Why would Ayato bring her out to such a place? What exactly is he planning? Is he going to kill her? Will he leave her here for the others to find her corpse? A cold sweat broke out on to Yui’s forehead, thinking about all the possibilities that could take place.
The vampire with fiery red hair only chuckled at such a stupid question.
“Stop asking stupid questions. What you should be asking is: What am I going to have you do.” He smirks at the horror painted on the young woman’s face as she began to get into her own head once again. Not wanting to wait much longer, the Sakamaki drags the human female to her feet with a nearly bruising grip on her forearm. Yui tries to put on a brave face, but it felt as if he was crushing her bones with how tightly he held on. After getting the girl up, he pushes her away from his immortal form. Yui stumbles, but otherwise remains on her feet.
“Please! Just tell me why I’m out here!” Yui said not being able to take the suspense any longer.
“If you want to know so badly I’ll tell you: I stole Ema. She’s out here somewhere. Alone, and vulnerable.”
Yui’s eyes widen in disbelief. No way. He’s lying.
Ayato smirks, already knowing what was going through her mind.
“If I were you Pancake, I’d try to find her before- hmm?” With such perfect timing, a wolf howled, it’s deep long echo ringing throughout the entirety of the forest sending chills down Yui’s spine. Ema couldn’t be out there with those animals. Please, God don’t let it be true. Hearing the howl, Ayato could only laugh at the miserable look that ran across the terrified girl’s features. Damn, it felt good. After he finishes his laughing fit, he vanishes into thin air leaving the scared and confused new mother with a message, “I’d hurry up Pancake, it’s either the baby, or you.”
This couldn’t be happening, Yui thought. Another howl rang out, and Yui quickly made a run for it with no clear plan. She just needs to find Ema. To God up in Heaven, please just let her daughter be safe.
…
Laito couldn’t find Ayato anywhere in the manor. There were only two places he didn’t check, and he’d rather not go down to visit one of those places. Still, he knew he needed to make himself clear with his brother, and was about to go when a breathless Subaru appeared directly in front of him. Immediately, Laito is able to tell that something was wrong.
“What happened?” He inquires, his voice turning to ice.
Subaru met his gaze evenly, “Ema and Yui, they’re gone.”
Oh, now he understands. Laito lowers his head, his fedora covering his eyes, and began to chuckle. A low, dark chuckle that causes Subaru to cautiously take a step back. Holy s**t. He might actually kill his brother.
…
“Ema! Ema, where are you?” The frantic mother shouts at the top of her lungs.
Yui ran, and ran and ran and ran. Is she completely lost? Yes. Is she scared out of her mind? Of course! But is she going to give up on the possibility of Ema being alive? Hell no. Though not biologically related, Ema is still her daughter, and she’ll be damned if anyone or anything got in the way of that. Even though her legs screamed for her to stop, Yui pressed on. She could sense it, and the feeling frightened her. They were gaining on her, tracking her fear. Howls and barks began to multiply, having found her scent. Yui would sigh in relief if this meant that they had not found Ema yet. She prays to God they didn’t, she needed her baby girl to be safe in her arms. Tears began to brim her eyes as she push her body to the limit, her arms and legs burning, and her feet aching in pain with each step she took. Yui looks around having caught a glimpse of a figure darting through the trees. It’s dark, but Yui knew her luck is running out.
Not paying attention to the actions of her feet, the blonde tripped over an uprooted tree. She tried to stand, but she sprained her ankle during the fall. The minute she looks up, she’s face to face with a pack of wolves fully surrounding her from only three feet away. Their long, sharp teeth surpassing their snarling muzzles. Slowly , one by one they advance, and Yui couldn’t make any sudden movements in cases they pounced all at once. She’s stuck. And in that moment, Yui feared for her life, but the worst, most heartbreaking feeling was the fact that she couldn’t find Ema. Her sweet, sweet baby girl that she loved more than anything. She at least hoped Laito or Subaru would find her soon, not caring anymore about what happens to herself anymore. Ready to give up on her own life, Yui closes her eyes, tears running down her flushed cheeks as she waited for the inevitable.
Yet the inevitable never came.
“What the hell do you think you’re doing just sitting there? Do you want to die?”
Out of nowhere, Subaru appears, shouting at the girl while reaching for her off the ground. Yui blinks, only for more tears to fall, “Subaru-Kun, how? Why?”
“Are you seriously asking me this? You’re Ema’s mother! It’s you she needs! Or did you forget?” He yells at her hoping to get through her thick skull. Slowly, Yui nods, his words finally sinking in.
“Take me, please take me to Ema.” She pleads. Subaru grabs a hold of Yui and vanishes again before the wolves had time to attack the two of them.
…
“Very clever of you, Little Aya.”
“Laito.”
Making his way towards his brother sitting on the couch by the pool side, Laito turns his attention to the little baby standing on his knees. Ema looks away from her kidnapper to her adoptive father and immediately rewards the vampire with a brilliant smile after recognizing the young man. Laito smiles in return, but draws his gaze back to his brother.
“Ayato, because you’re my brother, I’ll give you one last chance. Hand over Ema.” Laito reasons.
“And if I refuse?” Not liking where this was going, Ayato challenges his brother once again.
Laito merely chuckles, “Well, we would have a problem wouldn’t we?” Taking out Subaru’s knife, Laito steadies his wrist. Ayato smirks, he sat Ema down onto the sofa and stood, facing his older brother. This is going to be fun.
…
“Wait, Subaru-Kun, how did you find me?”
“You’re ankle, it’s bleeding. Idiot.”
“What?” Yui looks down to inspect her sprained ankle, and Subaru was correct. She’s bleeding.
No matter, she’ll patch herself up later. The only thing on her mind right now is Ema, and if she’s safe. When she looked back up, she saw that Subaru transported them to the pool.
“Why are we here?” She asks confused. It is until Subaru motions to the sight in front of them.
Laito had Ayato on his back against the wall. His entire body is covered in cuts spewing alarming amounts of blood. Laito moves towards his brother, wielding Subaru’s blade. He isn’t seriously going to do what she thinks he’s going to do, right?
Laito raises the blade to his brother’s heart, and before he could make the plunge,
“No! Stop it!” Yui Komori ends up screaming at the top of her lungs, effectively gaining the attention of everyone in the vicinity.
“You can’t kill him! Even though you may infuriate each other, you’re still brothers!” She yells.
Both vampires stop immediately. The force and emotion behind the young woman’s words halt their movements. Laito sighs, staring into Yui’s rose-like gems brought out a whole other side of him that he didn’t know he had. He stood, leaving his brother to slowly heal his own wounds, and walk over to Yui.
“She’s over there, y’know. Ema.” Laito said after lightly tapping the girl’s shoulder. Yui’s widen. What?
Right beyond Ayato, there is a royal and midnight blue sofa. On it, is a sleeping little Ema. The baby girl was here? All this time? While Yui was running for her life?
Forgetting the slight pain in her ankle, Yui stalks towards Ema, not fully believing that the child is actually here blissfully unaware.
Ayato saw the anger, confusion, pain, and relief mix into a cocktail of emotions in the young mother’s eyes. He gets up to explain himself, but is interrupted by the loud slap that echoes throughout the entire floor. His pale cheek is now a bright, angry red that is left with a stinging sensation that spreads to the other side of his face. Ayato’s illuminated, emerald green eyes widen in shock, not at all expecting Yui, of all people, to strike him.
“Pancake, did you just-?”
“Slap you? Yes I did. What the hell Ayato? This is a new low, even for you! You can threaten me, torment me, make my life a living hell for all I care. But you made me run out there, in the dead of night, being chased by wolves, and nearly dying because of it! You made me believe that my daughter’s life was in immediate danger, Ayato! And frankly, I don’t give a s**t about what you have to say right now. If you need my blood, that’s fine, take it, but other than that, do not speak to me or interact with me or Ema in any way!”
After her rant, Yui is practically fuming. Her pain by now is nonexistent as she picks up Ema, whether the child is fussing or not, and left, leaving behind the vampires to converse among themselves.
“It seems like you’ve really done it now, Ayato.” Laito hums, still looking in the direction that Yui has just left.
Ayato scoffs, “Whatever, come tomorrow, she’ll be begging for my fangs.” Oh, how he hoped he was right.
Subaru wanted to say something, but Yui had already said everything that was needed to be said. Instead, he opted to shoot his older brother a nasty snarl. With nothing more to say, both Laito and Subaru walks off to follow the mother and child, leaving Ayato all alone by the pool side to lick his wounds.
Damn. He really screwed up, didn’t he?
