Continuing their journey, Laito, Yui, and their adopted child make their way to the grand piano. Laito opens the door, and even holds it open for the young mother.
“Thank you, Laito-Kun.” She smiles. Laito only hums before grabbing her hand to lead her to the instrument and making her sit right beside him. He relishes it, being close to her. The warmth of Yui’s body relaxes him in a way that he couldn’t explain. It made him feel, whole. He didn’t want to lose this feeling again. Never again.
Once Ema is situated on Yui’s lap comfortably, Laito begins to play a soft melody. One that soothes the soul, and causes Yui to lean her head on his shoulder. The trio were in their own little world of wonderful, pure bliss, one that is interrupted by a fuming Ayato. Yui simply hardens her gaze and clings to her child in her arms. Laito sees this as a chance to further infuriate his little brother by throwing his arm around the equally infuriated Yui.
“How was your meal, Ayato?” Laito asks, not really caring for what his brother came to say.
“Disgusting. Just like how your arm in hanging off what belongs to me, it’s disgusting.” Ayato glares at the fedora-wearing vamp. His fangs are bared through his snarl. Laito isn’t the least bit afraid.
“What are you talking about? Little Mama here came to me herself, not the other way around. Could it just be that,” Laito smirks as Ayato eyes glow threateningly, “you’re jealous?” That’s it! Ayato marches over to Yui who shoots him a glare, but he is undeterred. Laito allows Ayato to pull Yui from his arms, after taking the confused child out of her lap. Ayato then pins Yui to the wall who barely lets out a grimace of pain. They glare at each other, neither backing down.
“My, my. Little Aya, if you were just honest in the first place, none of this would’ve happened.” Laito comments while guiding Ema’s tiny hands to press against the black and white keys.
Ayato clicks his tongue. He knows his brother is right, but refuses to give him the satisfaction. No longer caring, he tugs Yui’s hair to the side, out of his way, and punctures her skin and marks her with his fangs. He does this over and over, on her neck, chest, wrists, and finally her lips. He seals them with his own, her warm pink lips beckoning him to claim them over and over again. Ayato ends up nipping at her lips bottom lip, and forces his wet muscle in her mouth. Reluctantly, Yui moans into the kiss while trying to push the arrogant vampire off of her but failing to do so. Damn him.
As soon as they part of air, Ayato buries his face into Yui’s neck.
“…I’m sorry.”
Come again? She must’ve not heard him correctly.
“I’m sorry for stealing Ema, and making you go through that experience. I know you’re angry and not ready to accept my apology,” he removes his face from her blonde tresses, his features painted with a soft pink, “but please don’t leave my side.” He pleads.
Is Yours Truly really apologizing for his mistakes? Unheard of.
Yui stares into the eyes of the third son, a person who is willing to apologize and own their mistakes in hopes of being given another chance to start fresh. It may take her time to completely forgive Ayato for what he has done, but this is a step in the right direction. Slowly, she cups his cheek and offers a smile, one of forgiveness and admiration. It completely makes Ayato’s heart skip more than a few beats, but he’ll live.
“Ayato-Kun, you know that I won’t be able to fully trust you, not with myself, or Ema. That takes time.” She tells him, and he could understand that, after all, time is the one thing he will always have.
Yui continues to smile however once she sees the look of solemn sincerity cross his face.
“But thank you.”
…
Another two weeks have passed since the reconciliation in the music room, and Ayato is slowly earning back Yui’s trust to the point that he is now allowed to play with Ema while under the intense supervision of the youngest Sakamaki. Ema is now eight months old, and she is extremely focused right now. The half brothers were in what they now silently deemed as the baby sanctuary, since none of the others came in here now that Ema became a permanent resident.
Ayato is sitting on the floor watching Ema crawl around to her crib. His bright green eyes follow her mobile form, waiting. The baby girl reaches a hand out to grab on to the leg of her crib and uses it for leverage to bring herself to her feet. Ayato grins, showing off his glistening white fangs. She’s ready, he knows this by seeing her turn her head back and reach one small hand out for him. Not doing anything else yet, the third son of the Sakamaki household moves to stand tall on his feet. Subaru watches him like a hawk, waiting for his older brother to screw up or to show signs of treachery in any way, shape, or form. Instead, what surprises the youngest Sakamaki brother if Ayato’s next choice of words,
“Hey, Shrimp! If you want me, you got to come and get me.” Ayato states to the eight-month-old matter-of-factly.
Subaru only blinks. He can’t be serious. There is no way that a child that young could- holy s**t, she’s actually doing it!
The little girl carefully pushes herself off of the crib leg, and stumbles over to her new playmate. Subaru is silently cheering for his baby girl, until she falls flat on her face, effectively making the poor child cry out. Subaru quickly moves to help her up, but Ayato stops him.
“No, she’s gotta learn.”
“Learn what? She’s only eight months old!” Subaru argues.
Ayato doesn’t answer him. All he does is crouch to his knees, still about a foot away from the infant.
“…Get up and walk, Shrimp.” Ayato nearly demands. Subaru just watches in disbelief to what is going on in front of him. He stays silent though, wanting to see if this child would listen to Ayato’s word once more.
The little infant kept crying, her sounds of despair and hurt alerting Laito and her mother who keeps a baby monitor in the room and on her person. They both make their way to the baby sanctuary hoping that nothing is out of the ordinary. Laito arrives first at the door when Yui runs to his side. He glances at the sixteen-year-old girl before opening the door and stepping inside.
Yui came in after him, and immediately her hands went flying towards her mouth.
The sight before her is just too adorable! There, in the center of the room, is Ayato waiting for Ema to take her first steps towards him. Ayato is crouched down low on the balls of his feet, not stretching out his arms in anyway to help the child with tears running down her face. Yui quickly reaches for her phone, not wanting to miss a single moment of her daughter’s life. Laito and Subaru end up doing the same, but mostly to use for black mail if the need should arise. They all watch with baited breath as the girl stood, still fussing, and wobbled her way over to the fiery-red headed vampire one step at a time. Ayato waits until she uses his knees and shirt to balance herself and to draw herself closer to his chest. To anyone else, it looks as if a baby girl is trying to give her father a hug. And the sight melts Yui’s heart. Ayato finally smiles and lifts the child up in his arms, wiping away her tears and pressing a kiss to her cheek as a reward.
“Told you she could do it! Don’t doubt my kid!” Ayato exclaims in pride. Subaru only shakes his head and points behind the arrogant son and his proud smile only grows larger.
“Hey, Pancake! Did you see that? Did you see what she did?” He boasts to the girl’s mother.
Yui only nods while wiping the tears she didn’t realize were clouding her eye sight. She is so glad to have seen Ayato come a long way to proving himself to her. But this took the f**k cake! She didn’t think he could teach Ema to walk!
Happily, the young woman puts away her phone and runs up to hug the one who has gained her trust and her daughter’s affection. The action nearly takes the centuries old vampire off guard as he shifts the little one to his left arm and catches Yui with his right in an embrace.
Did he do it? Did he actually gain her trust?
A small smile takes form on his serene face, eternally happy and grateful that he achieved something much greater than he ever imagined. A family full of love, and hope for the future.
