Shuu isn’t one to meddle. Never has been, never will be. However, this situation is a little befuddling to him. Who on earth would leave some random child at the door of a manor all the way out here in the pouring rain? He felt as if this is another one of his father’s schemes and tries looking into the history of the young child. But having no name, or a witness, its becoming really troublesome. The eldest son, and next in line for the throne, opens his eyes to see exactly where he laid his head. He is in the parlor he concludes. It’s quiet, too quiet. Usually he would be able to sense his brothers doing something by now, being that it is late afternoon. Odd.
“Um, excuse me, Shuu-San?” A feminine voice calls out to him. He turns and sees the platinum blonde approach him until she made a full stop only a foot away from him. When is the last time he had a taste of her blood? He thought, not acknowledging the joyful little girl in her arms. The girl’s sherbet pink eyes met the royal blue of Shuu’s, she wants something and she isn’t sure if he wants to grant it.
The oldest vampire in the manor sighs, “What do you want?” He asks bored. What could she possibly want? As if waking up all over again, he finally sees the child in her arms. She couldn’t possibly-
“Would you mind watching Ema for me? Please?” She says as sweetly as possible.
Shuu blinks once, “No.” He closes his eyes again, ready to go back to sleep. He can still feel her presence, and sighs again.
“Why do you need me to look after her? It’s troublesome.” He states his opinion. The young mother simply smiles at his automatic response to anything that requires work.
“We’re going to see a movie that Ayato wants to see. Subaru and Laito are coming along as well, Reiji-San has already made himself clear about not wanting anything to do with Ema, and Kanato-Kun is…”
The nineteen-year-old grins while finishing the young woman’s thoughts for her, “He’s Kanato. Am I right?”
The girl smiles weakly and nods in confirmation, “Yeah, that’s correct. So if you don’t mind, could you please watch her for a few hours? She’s already eaten, changed, and had her amusement for the day, all she needs is a nap.” She asks again, hoping the older teen would say yes so that she could join the others in the limo. The eldest Sakamaki contemplates her words. If the baby is about to go to sleep anyway, how bothersome could it be? He closes his eyes and nods. An agreement that makes Yui breathe a sigh of relief. If he hadn’t agreed, she would have to miss the film which Ayato explicitly told her she is not allowed to bail out of.
The girl takes her time departing with her little one, kissing her cheek and forehead before leaving the child next to Shuu’s resting form, tucked between his right side and cradled by his biceps. The little girl let out a cute yawn, and Yui has to ignore the urge to pull out her phone in that moment to snap some pictures knowing Shuu may not enjoy being caught in the photographs. Yui looks back one more time seeing the duo fall asleep together before leaving the parlor and out the front door.
Shuu opens his eyes to look at the girl snuggling into his rib cage, he didn’t enjoy the feeling the thought of her rolling over and falling off the edge of the couch gave him, and proceeds to move her comfortably on top of his chest. The baby whines at the sudden movement, having been comfortable where she was but instantly a large, firm hand rest itself on to her back, and she quickly felt at ease with the weight added to her back that begins to rub soothing circles to rhythmically coax her back to sleep. It’s unneeded to say that it worked.
Now the child, with peace and quiet, is able to drift off without another fuss. It took Shuu some time to fully enjoy the peace, after all, there is a pair of eyes glaring at him from afar. He felt their presence. Knew it well, even. Unfortunately.
“What do you want, Reiji?” He groans deeply, opening his eyes, he just wants to sleep.
“I’m just trying to understand as to why you allowed such a thing come in contact with you, Shuu.” Reiji comments, his disdain bubbling under the surface.
The older brother simply shrugs to the best of his ability without disturbing the sleeping infant on his chest. Her heart beat much quicker than his, and her small but warm body also providing him a source or relaxing comfort he didn’t know he was missing. He turns his gaze to his brother, his head unmoving from its comfortable position.
“It was less troublesome than I thought.”
Letting that be the end of the discussion, Shuu turns back to the napping bundle on his form. Reiji sees the look in his brother’s eyes, a look that he didn’t enjoy seeing being passed along like the plague. It disgusts him. He continues to stare at his brother before huffing and leaving to scheme in his private rooms.
Shuu felt that Reiji is up to something, but knowing that he isn’t one to act until he felt that is plan is impeccable he left it for another day, too tired to deal with it now. Shuu didn’t want to admit it, but he didn’t mind the little eight-month-old at all when it comes to times like this. Listening to her heart beat helped the young male fall asleep easily this time. Their bond having been formed in the quiet of the parlor room. They shared the rare peace and tranquillity of the afternoon, being each other’s sanctuary of safety and comfort.
Maybe taking a few naps from time to time with Ema isn’t a bad thing, because he saw it becoming one of his favorite things in the near future.
