Laito wasn’t lying when he told Yui he has a date. Maybe it isn’t the date she was thinking about, but it is a date no less. After he excused himself from the table, Laito decides to have some fun with the baby girl he personally sees as his own. The tiny human currently is resting peacefully in her new, soft gray crib, tucked under a pink blanket. She looks absolutely adorable. Her tufts of gold curls slightly at her ears and at the top of her crown, her small pink lips were parted as she took even breaths. Laito was content in simply watching her, no longer feeling the need to wake the little darling. However, as if she felt his presence, Ema woke up with a small cry.
“Oh no, don’t cry my little one.” Laito coaxes her, picking her up and gently rocking her as Yui would be seen doing from time to time. Amazingly, she stops. Ema starts to babble and gurgle while looking up at the seventeen-year-old with her large doe-like eyes. Laito smiles, and presses a kiss to the girl’s forehead before placing down a play mat and some toys before sitting Ema down and watching her crawl from one thing to another and try to put it in her mouth. When he saw this, he grabs a teething ring from Yui’s diaper bag and hands it to the little girl who squeals in delight. Laito couldn’t help but laugh along with her.
His merriment ends, however, the minute he feels two other entities enter the room.
“So this is what you’ve degraded yourself to? A f*****g babysitter for Pancake?” Ayato growls, his eyes narrowing at his biological elder brother before darting to the infant playing on the ground, blissfully unaware to the danger that surrounds her.
“Ayato, I would appreciate it if you wouldn’t curse so much in front of Ema.” Laito spoke.
“The hell I will!” Ayato shouts back. Laito only smirks, right before his hand ends up surrounding Ayato’s throat, effectively pushing him against the wall causing him to lose breath. “Never forget this, even though you may be the third son, I am still your older brother, Little Aya.”
What the actual hell? What happened to the old Laito? This is a change for Ayato; a change he didn’t like. All he knows is that after Pancake and his brother came back from their shopping spree, that things changed between them. He didn’t know what that is, but he didn’t like how it made Laito closer to what he considered his: Yui.
“Hey, let’s talk somewhere less crowded. I’m getting irritated just by looking at it. You are too, right, Teddy?”
Laito stops. He completely forgotten about Kanato. He drops Ayato to the floor before making his way over to collect the gurgling baby. As he passes, he glances at his younger sibling and sees his violet eyes stare with such an empty, hollow look that it sent a shiver down Laito’s spine. Almost lightning fast, the oldest of the three removes the infant from their sight by placing her in her play pen by the crib. He left a few stuffed animals in their for her to play with and her teething ring, however the stuffed animals didn’t really interest her much at the time. Oh well, after securing everything else in the room, Laito left with his brothers just as Yui is making her way back to check on Ema.
They move their conversation to the parlor. Laito immediately wastes no time in making himself comfortable on the love seat that occupies the space, his leg crossing over the other and resting his arms on the back of the seat. He even hums a little tune he’s played on the piano, ah, piano! Maybe he should play a song for Ema and Yui. He did this all the while his brothers watch him from their standing positions across the room. Ayato, like always, is the first to speak.
“What the f**k was that about, huh?” Ayato is pissed, he glares harshly at the older sibling sitting nonchalantly on the seat. He got mad at him for cursing? In front of a baby? What the hell could’ve changed so much that Laito, of all people, cared about the use of profanity? Ayato is beyond confused and he didn’t like that feeling either. Not one bit. He had no idea how this happened, but he is certain it had something to do with Pancake bringing in that tiny, disgusting creature.
The tension in the room causes the air to be so damn thick that you could slice it with a knife as both Ayato and Kanato wait to hear Laito’s response.
“I told you to stop cursing, Ayato. At least, in front of Ema.” Laito hums, a smile never leaving face knowing how showing his prowess irked his sibling.
“No, I’m talking about what the f**k is wrong with you. What are you playing at, Laito? You stopped calling Pancake a little b***h, and even started calling that thing by its name too! What the hell happened to you?”
“Something good. That’s all you need to know. If that’s all, I would like to get back to what I was doing before.” Laito concludes, yet he knew there would be more.
“Don’t tell me you’re f*****g her.” Ayato accuses.
“Unfortunately, no. There’s no one else in the house willing to watch Ema for that long.” Laito teases.
Ayato took his words seriously, “Then, what? Are you two in love? Is that it? Bullshit!” Ayato shouts. Each accusation and response only making his blood boil. Yui is his! And he’ll make sure that everyone in this house knows it.
“Could it be that you’re pretending to care, to get closer to Yui-San’s blood?” Kanato asked, so quiet in comparison to Ayato’s screaming.
Laito’s eyes shift to look at the lilac-haired male. Their eyes met in a clash of purple and green. Just what the hell is he planning? The other thought.
Ayato watches this exchange, what Kanato said made more sense and seems like something Laito would do. Now he felt conflicted, on one hand, nothing would have changed at all, and his brother is still the same manipulative little bastard he is, on the other hand, Laito is still feeding off of Yui whenever he wished without any consequences, and probably without any resistance from their desired meal. Not cool.
Finally, after what seemed like hours passed, Laito spoke.
“No.”
Wait, what? Ayato’s eyes widen as he focuses on the vampire still perched in a relax state on the love seat, the moon from the window being their only source of light.
“What do you mean ‘no’?” Ayato questions.
“I’m not using Ema as a way to get closer to Yui. Her blood is delectable, yes, and is she more willing to give in, maybe, but do not question my feelings about either of them any more since they do not concern you.” Laito stated matter-of-factly. Feeling that the conversation is done, Laito stands.
Only this time his smile is no longer a feature present on his lips, and his eyes glow menacingly in the light of the full moon.
“Let me make this clear to you: If you do anything to harm Ema or Yui, I will not hesitate to put you in the ground right beside that woman.”
Both Kanato and Ayato tense at the cruel threat, and could only witness their brother vanish into thin air. Ayato grumbles, not being able to accept Laito’s change of heart before leaving on his own. Only Kanato remained, staring at the spot Laito occupied. The mention of that woman from long ago haunting him. He only snaps out of his trance when a new figure enters the room, their glasses giving off a harsh glare offset by the light of the moon.
“What do you want, Reiji-San?” Kanato questions the second eldest son, clutching his teddy bear with one arm and turning to completely face his half sibling.
The vampire with garnet eyes only smirks, a devious plan formulating in his mind.
