Chapter 2- Breaking the News

1311 Words
Katie’s POV               Murdered? Our Luna was murdered? Why? Who? It didn’t make any sense! I know what I saw in my dream, but that was just a figment of my imagination, or at least I thought it was. Tears started to form in my eyes. I felt helpless, weak, and very… empty. The Luna was the most wonderful person on this earth, why would someone do this? Who would do this? By this point food was the last thing on my mind. I picked up my phone, went to my messages and pulled up the conversation with my mom.   Me: Mom, where are you? I need to talk to you! Surprisingly, it only took all of three seconds for her to respond. Mom: We are tending to business honey, what’s wrong? I sighed not knowing how to tell my mom what happened. How was I supposed to tell her that her best friend and Luna was dead, and even more twisted, I somehow knew it was going to happen? Me: Something has happened, and you guys need to come home. Mom: What’s the matter sweetie? Me: Mom, Luna Jaquelyn was murdered last night, and something weird is going on with me. The pack needs you and Dad. I need you.  It took about five minutes for her to respond. Mom: Your father and I are leaving now; we will be back in a few hours. Finish getting ready for school, and we will see you this afternoon. Me: Mom, I can’t go to school like this! I’m a complete mess. I can’t even function properly. Mom: Well, then, go to our room and wait. We will be there soon. Wait in the room? I don’t just want to sit around! I need to find David; he can’t be doing good. I left the dining room and went to the Alpha’s floor. I went to David’s door and knocked. I heard shuffling around in the room before the door cracked open and saw David still half asleep. Is he just waking up? I thought to myself before I heard that voice. Heather f*****g Damon. What the hell is she doing in David’s room? “David, who is it?” Heather asked. David looked almost confused, as he turned to look back into his room, as if he was trying to piece together why she was there too. Did she drug him? He turned and looked at me, confusion still written on his face as he asked, “Heather, why in the name of the moon goddess are you in my room?” So, she did do something. “David, don’t you remember? You came to me last night asking if I wanted to have a little fun.” She stated. David looked at her, his eyebrows furrowed as he blinked a few times, and shook his head as he answered her. “Heather, I don’t even like you, so why in Selene’s name would I ever in a million years ask you if you wanted to have fun?” Heather scoffed, obviously offended at what David had just said. “I am the Gamma’s daughter, so you have to like me one way or another, seeing as how all three of us will be leading the pack soon.” “OVER MY DEAD BODY!!” David roared at her. He then glanced at me, “We will be running the pack, along with Katie’s mate when she finds him, and the Gamma of my choosing,” he said as he shook his hand between him and me. Heather just crossed her arms and said, “Do you really think I will be that easy to get rid of?” He raised his eyebrows, “Is that a challenge?” I decided it was a good time to break up this d**k measuring contest that was taking place in front of me. “David,” I got his attention. “I need to talk to you; it is very important.” He looked at me and nodded his head, “give me five minutes to get dressed, and you,” he said looking at Heather, “You have 30 seconds to get your s**t and get out of my room.” He ordered her using his Alpha tone. Heather’s face paled, that was epic!!! I don’t think I have ever seen her show an ounce of fear to anyone. Heather may be beautiful on the outside, platinum blonde hair that lays in perfect beach waves without even trying, thin 5’5” figure, all of a 120 pounds, but her attitude and the way she treats people make her worse than the wicked witch in the Wizard of Oz. Heather quickly pulled herself together, got her things and scurried out of David’s room. I decided to wait outside the door until he was done so he didn’t have to go looking for me. About five minutes later he came to the door and saw me pacing back and forth waiting for him. He c****d his head as he ran his eyes up and down me, knowing that I was never nervous. “What’s wrong?” He asked, breaking me out of my thoughts, confusion clear in his voice. “First, you show up at my door telling me that you need to talk to me and while I am getting ready to come talk to you, my dad links me that he needs to see me. Am I in trouble?” I shook my head. “If your dad linked you, maybe I should just let him tell you.” David looked at me. “Come with me, please,” he asked me with a fearful look on his face. I nodded as we walked together down the hall towards Alpha Michael’s office. When we arrived David didn’t even knock, he simply opened the door, holding it for me to walk in first. I entered the office, seeing that the Alpha had been crying and looked like death. David saw the state of his father and worry covered his face. “Dad, what’s wrong?” Alpha Michael looked to me, seeing I had been crying as well, and he knew then that I knew what had happened. “You haven’t told him yet?” “I was waiting for him to get ready so we could talk when you linked him. I felt it would be better heard from you.” I answered honestly. David had his brows furrowed looking back and forth between his father and I, and asked, “tell me what?” “Son,” the Alpha started. David’s gaze went to his father. “There was a tragedy that occurred last night.” David looked confused, “Tragedy? What tragedy?” I looked at him, “David do you feel weird this morning?” He stopped to think about it for a second. “Yeah, kind of, I guess. It feels almost like a void of some sort, like something is missing.” He stopped. He looked at me, and then to his father, he went back and forth a few times as I saw the wheels in his head start turning and come together. He stopped suddenly. “Dad, where is Mom? If there is something that happens, she usually tells me.” The Alpha and I looked at each other as he slowly nodded his head for me to go ahead and tell him. “David,” I said as he turned to face me. “The Luna isn’t here because she can’t be, not anymore.” David c****d his head, “I don’t understand. Dad, Where is mom?” The Alpha looked up into David’s scared and worried face and answered with the most broken voice I have ever heard. “Son, your mother is dead.”
