Shane took a drink of his coffee, watching Luke cautiously over the brim of the cup. Ryan looked from one man to the other and swore she could feel the tension between them. Luke had been courteous, but his expression was none too welcoming, and Ryan recalled their conversation the night she’d told him about Shane and her miscarriage. Since I can’t go back and stop him from hurting you, I can only return the favor, he’d said.
