And it begins
'I will always be there for you. I'll always be with you'.
Splash!
Irina's eyes fluttered open and she gasped for air. Her vision cleared and she saw the clear blue sky above her. Five sets of eyes peered at her with concern. She first recognized Leah, her best friend since childhood, staring at her, her brown eyes wide with concern. She was frantically patting Irina's cheeks and shouting out her name. As her foggy mind cleared up a bit she realized she was soaking wet from head to toe and she shivered in the realization. She also noticed that Luke, leah's boyfriend Raoul's best friend was soaking wet too. He was probably the one who brought her out of the lake. Raoul was patting him on the back as he asked Irina what the hell she was doing in the lake.
Irina looked around in confusion. It was a bright sunday afternoon. Leah, Raoul, Luke, Janet, Conan, and Irina had come to the city park to kill time. Irina didnt really want to come but Leah dragged her along. Leah was the social, cheerful, prodigal best friend, pretty much the opposite of Irina who had difficulty making any friends after befriending Leah in kindergarten. At the park Irina had strolled off from the group and come to sit by the lake. She had been listening to songs and reminiscing about her life when memories about Logan had flooded in and they did what they would always do to her. Sent her in a state of melancholy and despair at the memory of him from 2 years ago. the next thing she knew she was waking up on the floor drenched. Irina shook her head in confusion and told the group that she has no clue how she got into the lake. she didnt even know how to swim and would never dare walk into water like that.
Irina's face started to turn red with embarrassment and she mumbled a soft thank you to Luke and proceeded to get off the ground with Leah's help.
"let me take you home", Leah said. "Raoul, can you drop us off?"
Irina groaned internally. She had definitely ruined everyone's afternoon. She begged Leah to carry on with her afternoon and to let her just walk home but Leah wouldnt hear of it. She shook her head stubbornly and dragged Irina to Raoul's car. Standing at 5.9 feet and being a state level basketball player, Leah could do that easily since Irina stood at 5.4 feet and had never played a sport in her life. Upon reaching home Irina thanked her friends and ran up to her room before her father could see her condition. He had raised Irina all alone ever since her mother died when she was 4. 12 years later, her dad and her only had each other in the world. Despite that fact they werent particularly close and Irina felt guilty about how little time she spent with him. however they did not have much in common and had only grown apart steadily ever since she had started middle school.
That night as Irina lay awake in bed she went through the day's events in her mind. she still wasnt sure how she got into that lake but what was concerning her the most was the she remembered hearing Logans voice at one point. as though he was speaking directly to her. she couldnt hear him all that clearly but she could almost swear that she heard him say that he would always be with her.
