Just like the usual nights, after a long day at work, Dami was standing at her ceiling to floor window, watching the beautiful night view of the city, her thought had lingered off on the beautiful night she had with Jason.
She picked up her phone staring at it, she had no call, she didn't have any friend who would call except June, but she was expecting a different call.
"Are you home?" June asked.
"Yes, I got here a minute ago why?"
"I was calling to check on you," she cleared her throat, Dami could tell she had something in mind. "My mother invited you for Thanksgiving" June rushed.
"I knew you had something to say" She stared at her foot while she played with it.
"She made sure I asked, I know you don't like family gatherings but she insisted" Dami inhaled loudly.
"What time?"
"What?"
"What time?"
"Uhh-uh seven in the evening," June says, shocked for the past three years, asking Dami to come over to her parent's place was difficult and she never even accepted.
"I will be there," she says, her voice calm and soft.
"Are you sure you're alright?"
"Yeah, I am I am just sleepy, I would call you tomorrow" She sighed,
"Alright" Dami heard her say, before hanging up on her.
Morning came again, and Dami was at the side of her bed, sitting on the floor covering her face in between her legs, she raised her head to stare at the city again, time flew as she sat there watching, she imagined herself falling out of the Windows, tears rolled down her cheeks as she stared constantly.
Her phone had been ringing and she didn't even hear it, She heard a noise, she looked beside her and Peach was sitting staring at her. Then her sense came back, she searched for her phone on the bed and found it on the other side, the call had already cut.
"Ah, peach" she stared at the phone, June was calling it was already past eleven in the morning, how did she stare till time had passed.
Bark!
"Come on, let's eat breakfast" she manages to get off the floor, she took peach in her hands and headed out to the living room, it was dark as the curtains were still closed.
"Oh dear," she drop peach, and opened the curtains, her phone rang again. This time it was Jason.
"Hello" a smile graced her lips and her heart settled.
"Seems you were expecting my call Miss Adesina" she blushed as he tried to pronounce her name. "Am I right?"
"Not everyone gets it correctly the first time" she giggled.
"Well, congrats on my side," he says, Dami looked out the window and took a silent deep breath.
"You called" she broke the silence.
"Yeah I did, I felt you were expecting my call"
"I was?" she rolled her eyes walking to the kitchen
"Weren't you? would break my heart if my penguin didn't think of me"
"Stop calling me that," she blushed, her face turned red from his words.
"Then let me take you out for dinner," he says, Dami laughed.
Bark!
"Mr Lee," she called.
"You have a dog?" he asked, Dami looked at peach and sighed.
"Yes I do, why?"
"I have one too, she's a Maltipoo" Dami smiled at his taste.
"Mine too" she cleared her throat
"Really? so we are both parents?" he says, she could feel him smile over the phone "Let's take them for a walk together, would that be nice?"
"Another tactic?"
"I would grab so many opportunities to spend a day with a gorgeous like you" She dropped her cup, tightening her lips and pouting.
"Mr Lee, you have an appointment" she heard a lady say.
"I believe you have to go," she tells him, feeling sad.
"I won't till you reply me, penguin"
"Gosh, you're so funny"
"You should know more about me"
"That's business, your money is at stake"
"I make dollars every second, I can stay the whole day waiting for your reply"
"Gosh, how are you so good with words?" she whispered blushing away.
"Is that a yes?"
"Mmm, it is," She says, Jason sighed happily
"When should I pick you up, I am fine with any time"
"Well, you have an appointment, maybe after"
"Ahh, where should I pick you up? office or home?"
"Home, I would be home all day"
"Alright then" she smiled, hanging up.
She turned around and found Peach sitting on the floor, staring at her.
"Hey peach" her mood brightened, and she smiled away.
Bark!
"Shush!" she tells her, turning on the music. Ed was playing loudly in her apartment. Dancing and singing while she prepared breakfast was something she had never done before, she had a big smile preparing fried potatoes for herself, she took out a canned food poured it into peaches plate, she smiled like she had a great accomplishment.
"Here you go" she drops Peach's food. She took hers and sat in the living room, turning on a Korean drama, Descendants of the sun, she shook her head, smiling.
Dami dropped her plate and headed to her closet, Dami opened it, she was lost staring at her clothes, seems she had worn all this over time. "I don't have enough money," she wiped, sighing countlessly. "No, I am not going shopping, I have to save" she growled.
She sat up like reality had hit her "Why am I happy?" she pats her head, slapping her face.
She shook the thoughts out of her head, picked up her towel and entered the bathroom.
