Chapter 22

The California sun beat down on the turf. The officials called for a later time as women from team Sweden and USA stated they refused to play on a hot field. The women had officially begun to take action against FIFA president and not just talk about it. Knowing the amount of money that the women did start bringing to the sport, FIFA had no choice and complied, but it didn't stop fans from entering the stadium to watch the women warm up.

Massy had continued her LeBron James like ritual and stayed away from social media for the day, she remained clueless to the current love romance the blogs were cooking up between her and Kaepernick, and the fact that he was sitting in the sky box at her game only made the stories that much better. Not being able to reach Odell would ultimately be the biggest downfall to the situation. His voicemail was only thing she got. He wasn't angry or avoiding her calls, it was busy preseason schedule that had him moving every which way.

"Where's Nessa?" Massy mouthed to Colin as she searched the skybox on the first level of the stadium. His brothers and brother-in-law were the only three guest. Her arms out on either side of her as she asked him the silent question in hopes of finally meeting her.

Colin looked down at her and shrugged his shoulders, shaking his head. "Couldn't make it." He mouthed back to her.

Massy nodded her head showing him she understood and continued down the field. It didn't take long for fans to spot Colin, this was California, and even though he didn't have that great of a season it was still exciting to see him. As the match went underway it didn't take long for photos of Colin to hit social media from fans that noticed him from their seats.

The match was combative at times and frantic at others, but for 67minutes neither side could get quite everything together in attack to create a goal. Fans were reminded just how much they loved the game from the on going battle Massy had with several Sweden players. Her no fear of anything would send her into Sweden territory after the ball on many occasions. Once that opening spell settled down, we saw a match where Sweden won the possession battle, but the USWNT had more and better chances for a goal. Sweden were able to keep the US on their toes by playing a more physical game, something that lead to a penalty appeal early in the half when Christen Press appeared to be held back off the ball in the penalty area by Sweden's Nilla Fischer, but Japanese referee Sachiko Yamagishi kept her whistle silent.

She did so again several minutes later when Sweden appealed for a penalty of its own, when it appeared that Massy's arm made contact with the ball while defending a long ball in to the box. Both incidents looked like pretty clear penalties, and while each team likely felt aggrieved by being denied, at least there was balance in the denied decisions. More and more of the match started being spent with the U.S. attackers on the ball and Swedish defenders and midfielders trying desperately to keep them at bay. Finally the 67th minute brought USA's first and only goal scored by Alex when she hit the corner pocket of the net off of an assistant from Massy.

Sweden tried to claw their way back in to the match, using a series of set pieces to generate several very dangerous chances, including one that got Sweden midfielder Hedvig Lindahl (the same player that brought on her groin injury) and Massy into a battle for the ball holding her down, finally a whistle was blown on both women. Massy's frustration got the best of her. She walked up to the ref and pulled the ref's badge that was attached to the sleeve of her shirt asking "Is this real!?" The ref didn't take kindly to her taunting pulled out a yellow card. Massy was then pulled away laughing in disbelief by teammate Megan.

Odell calmed himself taking his teammates advice and looking up the published interview before he would assume anything and the interview proved to not be as bad as the media made it. His anger completely devolved. Watching the game feeling the same frustration that Massy was going through, every time she went down he cringed. Only to be brought back up once he saw Colin at the game. He frowned in confusion as the camera showed him clapping as the game closed out in a 1-0 victory over Sweden. 

He remained calm, his arms folded across his chest and his lips pressed together in deep thought. Refusing to believe that there was anything more than just a friendship between the two. Once again it only took hours for sports blogs and gossip sites to take advantage of the small situation and run with it. Old photos went viral again and tweets between the two athletes were dug up, Colin's old likes on her many bikini pics on i********: began to surface, and in due time another beautiful story was printed. Pulling Odell's old insecurities forward. 

Trouble in Paradise!? Soccer forward Massy Arias was seen this week in California with a man that wasn't her rumored fiancé New York Giant wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. Instead she opted for the attention of a Quarterback and old friend Colin Kaepernick of the San Francisco 49ers. She's also been romantically linked to actor Michael B. Jordan. How come she gets all the fine men!?... Yea we're jealous, so what."

"The USA forward and Quarterback had Beats By Dre interview as the two athletes were included in the relaunch of the Noise cancelling headphones, the next day he sat front and center at her match against Sweden cheering her on. The last time the two were spotted public together was 2016 All Star Weekend in Toronto, on Valentine's Day the two seemed extremely close in matching all white attire. During that time she was still rumored to have been dating Odell but he was nowhere insight.

Apparently the top athletes first met back in 2012 when Massy was a sophomore in college at UCLA during a ESPY Awards dinner. The two remained close, then when rumors sparked again in early 2014 that the two were dating after being seen at the UCLA vs Nevada football game together (Colin attend the University of Nevada) both parties denied that they were THAT close. If she is or isn't now dating Colin one thing we can say about Ms. Arias is that she sure knows how to pick'em. We can all agree the girl has amazing taste.
