The fellow called Bob, as he walked along with Jimmy, swayed to the right as he went, as though his right leg did not give him absolutely certain support.
“We all decided that we oughta ask you,” he said. “That’s why you were named on the committee—the first thing. That’s why they went and made you the chairman of the committee, to see about getting a surprise for Blue Barry.”
“What does a chairman do?” asked Jimmy.
“The chairman’s the head man, sort of the president or something,” said the other cowboy, and as he said it, Jimmy, looking at him, noticed that he had a scarred chin. “They elected you the chairman, all of the boys did.”
