Chapter 3

The best thing about my life right now is that I got to do the things that I like and I love, kulang man ako sa pagmamahal ng ibang tao sa akin atleast ako hindi kulang ang pagmamahal ko sa sarili ko. And that is why I am making sure that this time I’ll be where I really wanted to be.

“Miss we have arrived at the GGOC main building,” Vanie said the moment we arrived at the GGOC.

“Vanie please message Dahlia, tell her that I am here na, and please ask her kung naroon na ba si dad,” I instructed Vanie.

Even though I am an illegitimate child, my father knows my abilities kaya siguro mina-maximize niya ang kakayahan ko. Maybe, I am like a resource to him, a resource that should be utilized and exploited.

We were never close, bata pa lang ako lumaki na ako kay Nana Gina, never in my entire life that my dad has greeted me or given me a gift on my birthday. He just always ensures that all my needs are given and that I am financially supported by him.

During my younger years, I always strive to be the best. Sinisigurado ko na lagi ako ang pinaka magaling, kailangan ako lagi ang nag-stand out, I always make sure that I am at the top of everything. I always wanted to impress him and I want to make him realize I am worth my mother’s life.

That was how I live my younger years, by trying to prove myself to him and to everybody.

And when I finally have that someone who genuinely believed in me, I let him go kasi I realized that we both need to grow, and at that time I cannot give back the kind of love he was giving me because I am so engrossed in proving myself to my father.

“Miss Avie I regret to say this but the Senator is already at the meeting room,” Vanie nervously said.

Ghad can this day get any better? I need a break!

“It’s okay Vanie. I’ll handle him, when he asks you if you didn’t remind me you tell him that you did arayt? Ako na ang bahala.” I assured her that everything’s gonna be fine. She knows Dad he’s really terrible.

Parating na kami sa board room nang makita ako ni Dahlia, agad naman niya kaming pinagbuksan ng pinto ni Vanie.

“Senator, Miss Avie has arrived,” Dahlia announced.

“I am very sorry for being late, I just got off from another meeting,” I politely said as I sat down.

“Was that meeting of yours as important as this meeting?” Dad spat at me.

I was expecting him to react like that.

“Yes Sir, because it was my company’s meeting that I had to attend to,” I answered him directly.

The board seemed to realize the tension between me and dad they didn’t dare to utter any single word.

“Alright if you say so.”He said dismissively.

“We’ll talk later Avriell,” he quietly whispered to me.

“Please start the presentation,” He said to the presentors.

Gomez Group of Companies or GGOC was known for its success in real estate, malls and condominiums they offer high end and quality services and products. Ngayon gusto mag expand ni dad sa Malaysia, he’s trying to win this multi-million deal that can be his gateway in Malaysia.

“You see sir, we wanted to show the Malaysian investor the moderned type of condominiums here in the Philippines we wanted to showcase the expertise and techniques of our world renowned architects and engineers that’s why we came up to these designs.” Mr. Prado explained.

He is the Head Engineer of the company together with Ms. Desilva the company’s executive Architect.

“I see, what do you think about their presentation Avrielle?” Dad asked me.

I knew it. He wanted to make sure that this project will not push through until he heard my judgements.

Kahit na hindi ako lumaki kay dad, naiisip ko na kahit papano parang kilala niya ako, we have the same way of thinking, siguro totoo na kung ano ang puno siya din ang bunga.

Sometimes we contrast each other, may mga criticisms ako na hindi niya pinagbibigyan, simply because he stand by his decisions and sometimes he’s right but most of the time I am.

I am not his only child though, I have two siblings Alana and Simon. Alana is a model and Simon is a doctor. None of his legitimate child wanted to take on after him.

Ako lang.

But I don’t think na kaya niya ako pinagkatiwalaan sa ganito ay dahil lang wala siyang mapiga sa dalawa niyang anak. I know Alana once told him na gusto nitong subukan na magtrabaho sa kumpanya, she actually wanted to start as an employee para daw alam niya kung paano talaga tumatakbo ang kumpanya.

But dad refused Alana’s request, he specifically told her to chase after her dream, and that she doesn’t need to please him.

That was what I have always been envious for, his love, affection and care. Siguro talagang ganito lang ang tingin niya sa akin, isang magaling na empleyado na puwede niyang gamitin para sa ikauunlad ng kumpanya niya. Though GGOC hired me as their consultant, they never gave me the chance to be part of the board kahit pa sinabi ko na kay dad na interesado akong maging parte ng board.

“The materials are all expensive and the designs are too complicated, we will need vast amount for this project. You see we are just at the entry level in Malaysia it’s not as if we need to overpower other companies already. We have to market the company first,” I said trying to show them my point,

“I know that GGOC has already established its name in Asia but still we have to consider the fact that we want to completely take over Malaysia. And for that we need to be wise, Malaysians are wise people we need to be wiser.”

“So your point is? Are you saying that this is not strategically correct? What do you suggest then?” Dad impatiently asked.

“Miss Avrielle we need to make sure that the entry of GGOC in Malaysia will shake their industry, just how like the 3rd biggest telecom affected the Philippine Economy” Mr. Andrada said.

“You have to let my daughter speak first Mr. Andrada. I wasn’t asking for your opinion.” Dad spat the man.

I couldn’t help but hissed under my breath with his comment, dad is taking this personally and I think I know why. Sobrang against si dad sa modelling career ko, sabi niya na hindi para sa akin ang linyang ito. Nakarating na siguro sa kaniya ang balita na a-attend ako sa VS fashion week.
