Chapter 1
"Mommy, I don't want to die! I miss Daddy. Can you tell me who my daddy is? Will Daddy come to see me? I'm not a bastard... Not a fatherless orphan..." Ruby Parker lay helpless on the hospital bed, covered in blood.
Tears streaked Olivia Harrison's face as she tightly grasped Ruby's small hand. She fought to keep her own tears from falling. "Daddy will come, Ruby. Just hang on..."
In a flurry of panic and urgency, Olivia pulled out her phone and dialed a number she hadn't called in five years. "Jonathan, it's Olivia, Olivia Harrison. Ruby, our daughter, had an accident. She's dying. Please come and see her once. She's always wanted to meet you. Please... Where are you..."
Olivia collapsed to the ground, sobbing uncontrollably and trembling all over.
"Olivia?" On the other end, Jonathan Parker was stationed at a military base on an overseas island. He dressed in his military uniform adorned with five stars, and shuddered at her words!
Today, the sea surrounding the island was under lockdown, with a hundred thousand soldiers gathered for an inspection! This was a special military review secretly organized by Novaria.
Jonathan, as the leader of the Navy Secret Special Forces, had pursued drug lords, captured fugitives, aided allies, and stabilized the seas. He received countless commendations.
Today, he was to be promoted to a five-star general, the highest rank in the military. He was about to embrace a moment of glory!
But at that moment, he received a call that hadn't gotten through for the last five years.
Jonathan tried to call back immediately, but no one answered.
In an instant, he turned and sprinted towards the island's airport. He left behind a hundred thousand soldiers and high-ranking officials.
It caused a massive stir. 'Is Jonathan really abandoning the ultimate honor? Where is he going?'
Thud! Jonathan quickly boarded a military helicopter, and his devoted comrades, who had fought bloody battles with him, quickly followed.
"Quick! Get back to Yonderville now! Find them as soon as possible!" Jonathan roared to his subordinates. At the moment, his voice was thunderous and filled with the ferocity of five years of battlefield rage. Tears streamed down his face, and his eyes were bloodshot.
Seeing Jonathan so emotionally charged and teary, his subordinates were filled with shock. They had never seen their general reveal such grief.
Without hesitation, the driver ignited the engine and floored it. The helicopter shot out like lightning.
Another subordinate quickly located the number in Yonderville using satellite tracking.
Three military helicopters swiftly followed Jonathan's lead helicopter. Meanwhile, four private jets ignored the sea blockade and roared away.
Jonathan looked at the blue sky from the helicopter. His mind was filled with emotions. He remained silent, but tears flowed endlessly from his eyes.
"Olivia... Ruby... Our daughter..." Jonathan clenched his teeth tightly. He had a daughter?! For five years, he had no idea he had a daughter!
"Faster! I must see them!" Jonathan let out a desperate shout. His emotions was out of control. His guilt erupted. He kept repeating the names Olivia and Ruby in his heart, and recalled all the past events.
Jonathan was the heir of the Parker family, a prominent local family in Yonderville.
Five years ago, he was supposed to marry his childhood sweetheart from Stewart family. However, on the wedding day, he was betrayed by his fiancée and the four major families in Yonderville. On his wedding night, after drinking, he slept with his fiancée's best friend, Olivia Harrison.
Then, the Stewart family and the four major families challenged the Parker family. It caused their swift downfall. Jonathan's parents committed suicide in a lake, hoping they would spare their son. But the Stewart family ate their words.
Disheartened, Jonathan wandered through four cities and looked for refuge with friends. But he was betrayed again. Those months were the darkest days of his life.
He even chose to commit suicide. When he jumped into the river, Olivia appeared. She followed him, jumped into the icy waters to save him. She nursed him tenderly back to health.
Jonathan asked Olivia why she saved him, but she said nothing.
Three days later, Olivia left. Before leaving, she told him that if he wanted to live and seek revenge, he had to head south.
Bearing deep grudges, Jonathan headed south. Eventually he enlisted in the military.
After five years of fighting, he finally reached the pinnacle of military power and became a five-star general. He commanded tens of thousands with loyal subordinates by his side.
Though Jonathan's identity had been kept secret, his accomplishments were world-renowned and even feared.
Actually, Jonathan was planning to return to Yonderville after the review. He didn't care much for power and status. He wanted to return home, settle scores with his past enemies, and seek revenge for his parents. He also wanted to find the girl who had ignited in him the hope to live.
Unexpectedly, he received her call before he could return.
Five years had passed. And he had a daughter with Olivia!
Jonathan was overwhelmed by Olivia's words.
"Jonathan, it's Olivia, Olivia Harrison. Ruby, our daughter, had an accident. She's dying. Please come and see her... She's always wanted to meet you... Please..."
"I hurt you, but you gave me the hope to live!" Jonathan roared with rage and sorrow. "But just as I learn I have a daughter, she's about to die! Why is this happening?!"
He also thought of Olivia. She had raised their child alone for five years. She must have endured endless humiliation.
"General, this is a photo of your daughter."
Jonathan held the photo handed to him by a subordinate.
It showed a little girl. She was exquisitely delicate. She should have been enjoying a happy life but was now covered in blood on a hospital bed.
"Ah! No! She won't die! Get me back to Yonderville as soon as possible!" Jonathan refused to accept the reality.
"Contact the military's top doctors! Assemble an expert team! Locate my daughter! Get me there at all costs! All costs!" Jonathan roared desperately, and was visibly shaken.
He had never met his beloved daughter. She was only four years old! She hadn't yet seen the splendor of the world. He hadn't seen her or held her even once, and now she was about to leave this world?!
"No! No way!" Jonathan screamed in agony. His voice thundered through the helicopter, leaving his subordinates in shock. "Ruby, wait for Daddy! Daddy is coming soon! Olivia, wait for me!"
The helicopters roared and sped toward Yonderville.
